Don't drink and drive kids. Hobos will get you.

A Batman story I've always wanted to get my hands on is Gotham by Gaslight, a 'what if' tale of a Batman in 1989 1889 vs Jack the Ripper.

Someone is going to mention Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, so it might as well be me. It's not really part of the main Batman continuity though; it's more like an epilogue to Batman himself. It is totally awesome however.

I have a bit of a backlog on GOG - games I have bought but have yet to actually download and play. Must get round to finsihing Freespace 2 though - from what I gather it is basically the swansong of the PC space flight combat genre. Giants: Citizen Kabuto I really enjoyed back in the day - great sense of humour and a nice transition between 3rd person shooter and strategy. Similar in several ways to Beyond Good and Evil, at least aesthetically.

Oooh tough question. But I think it was Astro Wars (basically Space Invaders/Galaxian)

We've talked once or twice in the lobby about trying out a player-made map for our weekly game. Now I don't even know how we do this - do we have to download it individually or just find a server running it? But first things first; can anyone suggest some good maps for us to play?

Sounds like a prototype of the gauntlets coming in L4D2. Can we get the download links above to the non-forum players like Thayer and Danny Boy? If we help them get set up ahead of time then less delay on the night.

It was "that boy got a lot of livestock in 'im" that finally cracked me up. Good 'cast, good callers. -

True, Marek. Here's some more Marvel news: Fantastic 4 film franchise to get reboot (just five years after first film).

Check out the brand-spanking new frontpage blog. If you don't, it says this: When: Saturday, September 5, 2009 Be more specific: 5:15 PM, Pacific Daylight Time Where: Near the escalators on the first floor of the Seattle convention center Be more specific: The corresponding address is 710 Pike St., Seattle ---> Where: FOX Sports Bar and Grill I also live on the Sun, or Mercury perhaps. Figuratively.

This is the problem here. While Marvel is doing well they will no doubt leave it to run itself. But if comics hit another bump period in the future, then that is the time when parent companies panic and start issuing "initiatives" and "directives" and "fucking things up". Not that I think marvel is all that great; superheroes seem mostly dumb to me these days. But it will still be a shame.

OK so... Death Aboard is one of the highest rated campaigns on L4Dmaps currently, and caters for all game modes. Features a prison, docks, ships and an island lighthouse. Coal'd Blood is down in a mine, co-op or Vs. Back to School does what it says on the tin. co-op/vs. So what tickles your fancy? Or perhaps you have been recommended something else? This page tells you how to install and use custom maps. Pretty simple.

BlizzCon Blowout: Idle Thumbs 40: Idle Thumbs 40,000 (Nobody Beats the Blizz)
DanJW replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, I played Rogue in the first Diablo (for some reason I often end up with female characters in story-lite RPGs). I really liked that you could hire the Diablo classes as mercenaries in Diablo II. I think the Diablo 3 classes are interesting retools of the previous characters. The Wizard (WIZAAAAAARD) is the sorcerer/sorceress with extra stopping power; the witch doctor is the necromancer with perhaps a dash of druid; the monk seems like the assassin with a sprinkle of paladin. It's almost a shame that the barbarian is just a bit older. Is there still one to come? We seem to missing a rogue/amazon ranged warrior class. -

Rogue? Do you mean Amazon? She was my first DII character, although I never thought she was that great. The Assassin though, from the expansion... she was awesome. Also the basis for the rogue class in WoW. New players might not have seen this: ZzBp9ECiodc -
I've recently been exploring the murky world of indie tabletop RPGs. There's quite a vibrant community out there! www.story-games.com and The Forge are good places to have your mind blown with nerdgasm dice-probability analysis and 5-person social engineering and theories of shared improvisation. Socratic Design blog has collated a lot of the current models and theories. I'm considering having a shot at writing something myself. Here's my personal pick of some of the best indie tabletop games, that are making big waves at the moment: Dogs In The Vineyard - alternate history hyper-religious wild west. You play as an inquisitor/gunslinger type badass, out to kick ass and save souls. Conflict resolution based on poker-like stake raises; but instead of chips you bet with other peoples lives and consciences. The Shab-al-hiri Roach - semi lovecraftian social politicking black comedy, within a 1920s university country campus. If you allow an ancient Sumerian psychic cockroach (discovered by the archaeology department) to infest your brain, you will become hugely influential over the other faculty and studentship - at the cost of your soul. Sometimes the cockroach will infest your brain anyway. Lacuna part 1/second attempt - a postmodern "incomplete" crazy paranoiafest. You play as MIB style agents in something like a cross between The Matrix and Psychonauts. A mind-fuck in every good way possible. Sufficiently Advanced - far-future scifi written by a physicist. All technology based on theoretically possible science - no bunkum. Still crazy planet-destroying stuff though. You work for quantum computer AI's who receive messages from their more advanced selves further in the future. Oh and they run the patent office - in the post scarcity future, IP is the only thing with inherent value. Now free to download. Mouse Guard - been winning lots of awards this one. You play a mouse. With a sword. Swashbuckle up some evil weasels and survive against the elements. Based on some lovely looking graphic novels, and very suitable for introducing youngsters to roleplaying. Plus tonnes more. Seems like tabletop ludology is having something of an explosion right now.

combines with this technology perhaps?

There is also the factor with expendable commodities here. Batteries run out fast, and then you have to buy new ones. Rechargeable lithium batteries are better, but expensive. This wireless power supply would be something that you might only need to buy a handful of times over the course of your life, and then you are just paying the mains electricity supplier. Unless they add a massive markup on every instance of the receivers, I don't see how they can keep a business running on this alone. Seems to me this tech would just fold into electronics manufacturers like Sony.
