"The SABOTEUR" or "The Game That Kingz Has Been Asking For Since GTA III"
DanJW replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Video Gaming
It looks good, but it will never live up to the original Saboteur on the ZX Spectrum: -
I do like Tennant as The Doctor, but he's one of the few things I like about the show. Actually the casting is generally quite good, but I don't like the melodramatic lines so often fed to those actors. (as an example, I thought Lindsay Duncan was nicely understated but when she came out with the line "Damn You!" I burst out laughing and said "fuck off").

I enjoyed this game! (unsurprisingly for anyone who has witnessed my regular frothing appreciation for Bioware.) The single player campaign was much much stronger than the one in the first Neverwinter Nights. I will have a bit of a think back and post more on it later. But I'd say the weakest points were the beginning and the end. Both are very clichéd and railroaded, very uninspired compared to all the fun and freedom that happens inbetween. I tried to find the first expansion, Mask of the Betrayer, as it is meant to be excellent, but not a single store had it in stock, even online.

Yes! Thankyou! I can't understand the British critics wankfest that is Doctor Who praise. It sucks. The script sucks. The ideas suck. The acting mostly sucks, but has occasional non-suck high points. The camera work especially sucks. The whole thing feels like watching a televised am-dram play written by kitchen-sink EastEnders-raised dramatists who once had science fiction described to them by a distant relative.

Is it a TYPO trap?!

That was just the mass detected in the debris plume, as I understand it (a plume created by crashing a high speed probe into a crater shadow - fun!) They are pleased with the results; it suggests are a lot more lunar ice than they were expecting. But yes no lunar seas, more like a layer of subdermal permafrost.

Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"
DanJW replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Aww poor Brkl. I was almost in the same situation, until I caught wind of it. Episode 48 explains it all I think. -
I actually really liked number 24, the line about Chaupin. It was almost bordering on wit. Number 46 made me laugh out loud quite a lot. Shame that some games appear two or three times in the list. I guess the editor is drawing from his own collection. Not much recent or high-profile stuff either.

Ahahahaaha I hadn't thought of that. An underwater city... on the moon! A moon city... underwater! Or embedded in ice at least (actually embedded in ice would also be a good Bioshock 3 or 4). This is pretty cool news anyway.

I second most of the ones mentioned already, but especially Arrested Development, as surprisingly few people seem to have seen it. Not mentioned already, from the list: The Office (both of them, but the UK one particularly) Dexter Flight of the Concords It's a pretty good list, although not much animation (where's South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken)? How I Met Your Mother is... watchable. If you can stand to watch Friends when nothing else is on TV, then you will be more than happy with How I Met.. PS The entry on Buffy doesn't recommend its excellent award winning episode, Hush.

Heh I was just about to post on Them Crooked Vultures as well. http://www.themcrookedvultures.com/ has all the youtubed tracks in sequence. So good, it's like discovering QotSA for the first time all over again.

Happy Birthiversary your Spaffness!

Probably quite legion on torrent sites. Not so legion in ratings-tested households (ratings are generated by a small test sample of the population, that is laughably non-representative of certain subcultures). But fairly legion in DVD buying power.

Yes, the inevitable happened and Dollhouse has been cancelled. It gets to finish out season 2 though. I think it is kind of hilarious, seeing how the second series so far is actually better than the first. I really, really hope that Whedon walks away from Fox for good now. They've made it pretty clear they don't want him or his legions of lousy cult fans.

I think you perhaps did miss the point. The exact reason it revealed the "twist" so early is because that story has been done before. If it saved it up to the end, M Night Shylaman style, the film would indeed be totally predictable and cliché. Instead, like all the best golden age scifi, the film concentrates on exploring the human after-effects of the twist. The 'cleaning up' is the point, not that anything gets cleaner.

No-one has mentioned Dungeon Siege in relation to this game. DS never sat well with me for some reason - something about it just didn't feel right. Torchlight though feels lovely.
-
Totally. I have beat two of the expert campaigns - I can't remember which two though. Still happy to do any of them.

Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"

Irony? -
Actually I was thinking the opposite - it looks very cartoonified and jazzed up. I was wondering if anyone will ever again play A Christmas Carol completely straight, the Charles Dickens way, with Scrooge as a normal looking person instead of a grotesque.

Two MPs arguing over MW2 sparks gamer mobilisation campaign. Cool.

Yes that's me! Was fun playing with you Rawru, welcome to the fold. SuspectKitten will be pleased to have another woman on board I'm sure (hope the little-un gets well soon!) I'm keen to have another shot at expert mode, next time we have a spill-over game. All the thumbs have advanced down pat by now, and it's nice to feel that old sense of fear again.

Oh it's real. The terrified little fuzzbuzz child has been abducted by The Snagron: hich is saving him/her/it to eat later. Luckily the fuzzbuzz highland clan band together to come to the rescue (and possibly seek revenge for the ones that did get eaten). Observe:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/17460/ Ahhg damn you Steam! Every week you tempt me to spend my meagre savings on games I have already played on console but do not actually own.

Couldn't it be both? On a different note; what's with all my favourite American TV series being put on pause over November? Is this a Thanksgiving thing?
