  1. The threat of Big Dog

Cleverbot admits it! One of their own!

The should use both hands! Nice website BBX. My only constructive criticism would be that on first glance I expected the shop section to be a place to get the games, rather than a merch shop. It's only a moment's click, but I am easily confused and all that.

As a series of stand alone sketches the two PotC sequels are fine (I really enjoyed the three-way fight at the end of Dead Man's Chest). But as a whole film that is meant to have a narrative and a structure and a plot we care about... I find the second one is only passable and the third one is awful

Computer Scientists Induce Schizophrenia in a Neural Network, Causing it to Make Ridiculous Claims Of all the goddamn irresponsible things to do... now they have programmed insanity into our future machine overlords!
  6. Extra Credit is great

It's fine, it's just nothing new. All of their observations have been made at least five years ago. This is a good 'Game Design 101' though for people who aren't already aware of this stuff.
  7. Awesome Medical Breakthroughs Thread

Cool! I always like elegant solutions to aid delivery. Reminds me of a very funny Iain M Banks short story called 'Cleaning Up'. A friend of my family works for the UN rapid relief response. He converted a tank-carrying WW2 warship into a 'can dock anywhere' relief delivery vessel. Here's something medical: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-13430219

Is he Braid guy? Aww, now I do feel bad. That guy has enough on his plate already.

After three tries I managed 16, which was enough to unlock survival mode. What's with the little green monsters?

I love psychological horror. It's just really to hard to find these days - the market is swamped by the cat scares and gorn.

Wow, I never knew everyone here was so sensitive

He also said 'does' and 'do', ie present tense. Maybe Dexter, in moments? Lost probably tried to do it as well. I'm not sure why it is that a kids show does this where others fail. Maybe because most shows treat the screenplay as the cheapest and least important part? You're not missing anything on Quatermass, Elmuerte. It was indeed only a few mini series and a feature-length movie. Some of those are really very good though.

Masochisquee. Possibly also the name of a lost Native American tribe.
  14. April 16, 2006?

I seem to remember we got linked from a bunch of sites for some reason. Dammit I can't remember why now.

I just had to buy The Witcher on GOG. Yay! Waited so long to get this game I actually forgot about it. Now I have a backlog of awesome RPGs on my shelf.
  16. Books, books, books...

Personally I think the Dirk Gently books are underrated and the first one may even be cleverer than H2G2. Less funny, but incredibly well plotted. If you re-read that book you will see that it truly is holistic - every last detail ties back to the central mystery, even the ones the characters don't notice.

  18. Tabletop RPGs

Yeah 6 is good; 7 at a pinch. Those who have rolled up characters, please join Obsidian Portal and the Infinite Isles campaign and add your PC there. We'll use that for tracking stuff. If the built-in forums aren't suitable for play then we'll use Myth-weavers. Some things to think about before we start - are you all going to meet in the first adventure? Or do you know some or all of the party before hand? If so how? I'm not going to ask everyone to make detailed backgrounds - if you want to then great, we can even work in some NPCs from your past. Otherwise we can discover who each character is and maybe even their history through play. I can find some pointers for those who would like to flesh out the character early. When we're ready I'll post up a set of guidelines for how we go about it. I've not done play-by-post before so I'm open to suggestions. Then we go!

    Karma!
  20. Low-poly probably isn't the right descriptor. I don't really care how many polygons are in a model. Beyond Good and Evil has fantastically designed low-poly characters. WoW does too. But the Alice here just looks rather lazy. Like they did the dress and were so happy with that, they didn't care. There's no real charm to the character design. She looks like a doll, but without the personality.
  21. Hitman: Absolution

I loved Blood Money. Played it several times. The plot was even approaching passable - for me the payoff at the end of the game was well worth it. I prefer they go the lower key 'Bourne-ish' intrigue route and stay away from all the scifi clone nonsense. But yes the main draw is the locations and scenarios. And the wonderful set pieces. And the various options for dispatching targets. And the silly disguises. Looking forward to this.
  22. Yeah the weapons in the original game were quite whimsical. This does look a bit too actiony - the nicest bits before where the exploration and puzzle elements. But maybe they're just showing us all the action bits. Also the Alice model looks low poly and not all that well animated. And the voice acting is bad. Damn.

  24. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

As I posted in the movie thread, I went to see Attack the Block. It has a really great urban soundtrack that is both representative of the London estate setting and harks back to base heavy scores from John carpenter movies. Dubstep is slowly growing on me. It's horrible to dance to for more than ten minutes, but the film made me realise what great background music it makes. My brother, who knows more about music than me, claims this isn't real dubstep. It might be drumstep or something. Basement Jaxx describes the track as 'bagpipe dubstep'. anyway it's stuck in my head. Here it is:
  25. Tribes: Ascend

Looks like they're going for a slightly Chris Foss aesthetic. Not quite there, but a good thing to aim for.
