It was a man. You sexist.

From what the BBFC have said here, it seems that in the first game you were essentially fighting for your life. In this game a large amount of the violence is less justified being there simply for the sake of it.

You've met her, she lives in Ireland; if you're not careful she may well murder your entire family including your tiny little sisters, saving them from the terrible fate of growing up to be as contrite as you are. Love ya Dan

A truly terrifying creature.

Ha, I thought it might be a Pacman skull. The eye sockets seem a bit far back though. Unless they're not really eyes but are merely markings that look like eyes, like on a butterfly's wing. Making Pacman eyeless, like the Alien. Now I'm scared of Pacman.

A friend I met at university would take exception to these. She once berated a group of flyer distributers about the waste of paper and the damage caused to the environment. She made one of them cry. It was awsome. We have Metro here too, as well as in London (I was under the impression it started in London, but I might be wrong). It think it's one of them there entreprenurial success stories, probably responsible for all the copycats as well. In Brighton we also have several free glossy magazines, which are slightly better quality and aren't touted. You just pick one up from a pile.

Could be, but I can't remember the source so it's possible I dreamed this.

From what I heard they decided the game was too sandboxy by itself, so the delays may well be caused by the implentation of a more narrative driven campaign mode. I salute you sir edit: Hmm Rado, I see it more like a firebreathing chinese dragon, but instead of fire it is breathing thumbs and instead of a dragon it is a serpentine farting pacman. Profound.

Heh, It amused me that the BBC article mentions Carmageddon as the only game previously banned. That banning turned out to be ochestrated by the game's producer for publicity (I think he sent a letter of complaint under a pseudonym). I have fond memories of downloading the tiny tiny "crack" file that turned the blood from green to red and the zombies into pedestrians.

I dislike the article because it brings up the accusations against the first game several times, as if this justified the banning or was relevant. Only at the end does it slip in the fact that the police found that it was in no way responsible for the murder. Pretty tabloid reporting for the BBC. But the action itself - I duno, all media have a line of decency that will get it banned if crossed, most obviously films. Why shouldn't games have that line? I'm pretty sure that Manhunt 2 comes close to that line if not crosses it.

So what do we think about this here? Is it disrespecful? Or were the devs justified in trying to express the tragedy of the situation by placing it in a venerated space? Will the Church "take this further" as they have threatened, or will the fuss all peter out as usual?

yup

Holy fucking what the fuck? Yeah I just caught up to the finale finally. Overall I enjoyed this season. Went a bit lame around the 2/3 mark but the last dew episodes I likes. And yeah Lamkin was a great character, and yes I spotted the start of Adama's descent into cranky old man pretty early in the season. I'm just suprised it never became a plotline in itself. in my opinion he's getting increasingly jaded and starting to care about everything less and less. Also did I mention: Holy fucking what the fuck? So, uh, when is the next season eh? edit: oh yeah one other thing I got from the season as a whole; Galactica has got to be the most ill-diciplined miltary ship in the galaxy. Not a week goes by that someone disobeys orders, shirks duties or acts out of line. it's like M.A.S.H. in space

Are you suggesting that Rodi has more kinks than we were previously aware of?

I agree with Toblix. Top-down views have their place, in a more tactical type of RPG which edges towards the RTS side of the spectrum. NWN2 tried to go all "KOTOR" third person and it was nearly unplayable until a patch allowed the camera to return to the classic top-down view. But Cagney is right, it does sound like mass effect, which seems to be a hybrid FPS/KOTOR system. Also like toblix I don't have much faith in Bethesda getting the content right. Seems to me that they tend towards building great RPG systems, with the engine and all, but then stock their world with mediocrity (Bioware in the past have had the opposite approach of limited systems but great content). Of course, all we can do is wait and see.

Sounds weird. But were you really under any illusion about what bethesda were going to do with the licence? First person is their thang. Hello Oblivion engine.

Why is it that american cinema can't do horror other than of the teen slasher variety? Is it because running away from monsters isn't manly enough and the only appropriate course of action is to shoot them with guns?

Oh man you're gonna get it. Aren't siamese closest genetically to the original domestic cats of ancient Egypt?

Games involving war with Russia, China and/or a Middle Eastern Alliance
DanJW replied to Marek's topic in Video Gaming
I've found it fascinating in the past that most americans (and many English too) still have a knee-jerk reaction to communism. Even say the word and you will be treated some kind of affirmation to the effect that it is inherantly evil, flawed, and a Generally Bad Thing (yes this has happened to me). It's amazing how long the effects of propaganda last. Not that I'm communist understand; I just don't automatically see it as "evil". Games, like all fiction, that go against the trends we've been discusing tend to be labelled as "subversive". I know there are a small number of games that fall into this catagory, but I can't think of them right now because I need my morning coffee (curtesy of Nescafe! The coffee that in Hebrew means "miracle coffee!) Deus Ex maybe? -

isn't the whole Russia/ China/ middle east as enemy a hangover of the Cold War? Also interesting in how many alien invader scenarios involve "swarms" or hives of aliens - a possible metaphor for communism? I'd love to see alien invaders from a democracy who are invading earth because it wins them votes and protects their trade routes.
