New Duke Nukem Forever screenshot and trailer....huh?
BigJKO replied to Spaff's topic in Video Gaming
Long, precise and good post, Nachimir. Don't worry, you've got a pretty good and valid reason to be a bit negative. And so does anyone else as well. My point is only that we dwell a bit too much on the business and professionality side of things. And all the while we're complaining about games being rushed when here's a developer that just says, so famously "When it's done." And if it were a perfect world, that's what every developer should have room to do. Make their games and get them done, proper! Maybe the fact that 3D Realms can allow themselves the freedom, with an out-dated character (what with this feminist world we're evolving into, hopefully for the best) and perhaps old gameplay goals of interactivity, when other studios (Troika and other studios mentioned before) could've used the money to complete their games. But you can't fault 3DR for being good at funding themselves. And when I say people are being negative I mean comments like they're "pissing away" money. I wish I could piss away money like that making my dream game. -

What's with the negativity? Not that I'm expecting a masterpiece when this is released but Team Fortress 2 has already proven that "vapourware" can still end up awesome. So, lighten up. I'm just glad they're able to "piss away" money to spend enough time to make the game they want to make. -
Trailer officially out now: http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/deathtrap/default.htm

Thanks, guys! And yes, I'm glad there were seperate "audience" prizes and that the category I won in was based on a jury selection. 'Cause with the 6 dollars I've earned from advertising so far wouldn't have gotten me too far in a profit-based competition. I'll post a pic of the DS when I get it. I'm pretty psyched about getting a DS Lite, seeing as I still only have a DS Phat. A good excuse to go buy some more DS games, haven't played any at all lately.

Just a bump, cause I'm a WINNAR! And again, thanks for all the wonderful comments/feedback. Apparently there's still some people experiencing that dreadful bug..

That first picture isn't a very accurate representation of the term. 3D objects viewed through isometric projection have accurate angles and a line that goes upwards, like a building (assuming it's a straight building, of course), would always be a straight up line in an isometric picture. Not sure if what I just typed makes any sense, though.. But yeah, Isometric is all about having accurate angles, 120/30 degrees.. or whatever. As are Trimetric and Dimetric projections.

They have said the camera can be pulled up and back far enough that it shouldn't be a problem for the players who want to mimic the old Fallout viewpoint. Pretty sure they're never going to allow to actually go isometric, but Wrestle's point, as far as I can see, is that it's not limited to first-person as toblix implied.

That's quite some big news, despite the perhaps lackluster sequel (never played it.) Remains to be seen, though, how well a new studio can tackle such a hugely anticipated sequel. But after seeing how Fallout 3 seems to pretty much be in faithful hands I'm a whole lot more positive. Ooh, and teaser.

Isn't that the same one I posted in the first post..?

Sounds more like something they'd Wii-ify for a WiiWare release.

I couldn't stomach the whole thing in one session, but I still thought there were some nice moments in between. Zoidberg felt a bit stronger in the later bits and somehow the whole time travel plot amused me. But on the whole there was too much garbage in between. I can understand, however, that they wanted to try and bring as many characters in for a cameo seeing as this was their big return to the TV. But it just felt like too much at some point.

But is the Zapper much different from just using the Wiimote to shoot things? I remember being quite satisfied with that in Rayman Raving Rabbids.
-
That's assuming a whole lot. I absolutely agree with you about Oblivion, but Elder Scrolls != Fallout, and from what I've read Bethesda are quite aware of that as well. As far as I can tell, and you could question my knowledge of this quite considerably.. Bethesda aren't shoe-horning Fallout 3 into their model of an RPG. But you are absolutely correct that considering Bethesda's track record there's no reason to trust the Fallout license in their hands. But, and this was what I said in the first place, despite having my doubts at first I'm feeling a whole lot more optimistic now after reading interviews/previews that make it seem like they're trying their best to stay faithful to the series. I guess it's obvious it's time for a Fallout 3 thread, because I have a feeling Cigol's going to bombard me with quotes that state the exact opposite of what I remember from the interviews off the top of my head.

Everything I've read about Fallout 3 seems to indicate they're treating it pretty faithfully..

Almost anything by Ambrosia Software was gold for Mac users. Especially Escape Velocity. Man.. that and Duke Nukem 3D are the first games I ever tried mod'ing. I also vaguely remember a fun Bomberman-clone called BooM, with an appropriate reskinning of all the characters. Not sure if it was only for Mac or not.

Just saw this over at Kotaku this morning. Congrats on the opening, it all looks pretty spiffy and nice.

Is there any reason not everyone should be playing Psychonauts anymore?

Apparently it's free now. -

Ah, there was a catch. It's apparently not for people living in Denmark (I assume it's only for US citizens.) -
Ah, Math Blasters. I almost exclusively played it for the awesome Road Runner animations when you cleared a level. Speaking of Oregon Trail, this comic made me laugh. The shooting segment was probably my least favorite part of the game, 'cause it felt horribly unbalanced. I mean, shooting the insanely fast animals was harder but gave you less meat (if I remember correctly) so I just ended up shooting a hundred buffalos. Ahh, the classics I used to play on my Mac Plus..

Cutscenes? If I get to shoot rays at ghosts and then hear Bill Murray say something as Venkman, I'm sold.
-
Yeah, saw it over at Joystiq. Man, that made my morning. But has gaming really become any more mainstream? I mean, it's all classic tunes so that might only suggest it was mainstream back in the 8 and 16-bit days.

Oh, man.. I remember when those screenshots looked awesome (or more, the video of them in motion looked awesome.) Everything felt so alive. Everything in the environment seemed to be moving, as opposed to the mostly static game worlds at the time. That looks really horrible now. When is it from, anyway? 2000 E3 video?

Which is more a by-product of a lot of people being fucking morons, not the map. I love 2fort, as long as I'm playing with non-moron teammates. Then you can counter any strategy.

Fair enough, I just think if you're worried about the gore and blood in a game called Brütal Legend, you're missing the point.
