  1. Plug your shit

Laserschwert, the posters are a treat, as always. I saw your Grim Fandango mural restoration on the Double Fine forums. I have the stupid DVD-cover re-release of Grim Fandango, so I never had the mural art. Would love to have that one on the wall or framed somewhere.
  2. In the sense that both channels, left and right, output the same thing.. I guess it is mono? This isn't the 60's, so no.. please don't blast Chris into my right and Jake into my left ear. Although, I now I have an image in my head of Chris, Jake and Sean running back and forth between two speakers at a party marveling at the stereo mix, like the Beatles.
  3. Fund Tim Schafer's next game YOURSELF!

New interview up at RockPaperShotgun: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/02/27/interview-tim-schafer-on-kickstarter-passion-and-dads/#more-96302 I'm glad they haven't started thinking up the game at all yet. Means we'll get all the messy brainstorming on film.
  4. The Legend of Zelda

After reading this article about Zelda games and how the first one is awesome and then it all turns a bit shit, I decided to fire the first one up again in an emulator! So far, it's god damn hard. You don't realize how much modern games hold your hand along the way until you go back and play an old game like this. But.. I'm kind of liking that it's hard. It's not too hard so that I give up completely, but still hard enough that I've died more often in the first hour than in the entire Twilight Princess, probably.. Also, the boss at the end of the first dungeon (or what I'm assuming is the first dungeon) looks awful..
  5. Fund Tim Schafer's next game YOURSELF!

Yes, Demolition Derby was icky! I only meant if they wanted to do something complicated, requiring calculations, perhaps simple physics, etc. At that point the SCUMM engine starts being a bit cumbersome. Also, the only "modern" thing about the Special Edition Monkey Island's is the resolution and portability. The rest is all 90's Monkey Island. Although, technically that's all they'd need to create a modern adventure game. I don't know.. I'm hoping they at least try to push the boundaries of what we consider adventure games to be, especially now that they have a pretty nice budget. I loved the adventure games that Tim made back then because of their story but also because back then it was fresh. I hope he can still surprise me, not just with his awesome wit and storytelling but also in the gameplay mechanics, even if it stays completely within the confines of classic point and click!

    Thanks, you guys!

Oh, my.. That's scary. RE: The Engine! It could possibly make most sense for them to use whatever tech they already have developed at Double Fine. Of course I'd want them to use as little resources as possible on engine code. But if Tim and Ron have some new gameplay mechanic ideas, going for a new engine might even be a more sensible choice, considering how evil the SCUMM engine can be when you try to do more complicated stuff (like Full Throttle's demolition derby)
  8. Plug your shit

I started a new tumblr, where I'll make illustrations of point and click adventure characters. First up is Full Throttle! http://pointclicking.tumblr.com/
  9. The Legend of Zelda

    Whaaa?! Thanks!
  10. Breaking Bad

The bit with I was shaking after that ending.
  11. The Legend of Zelda

This thread is fun! Also, I still haven't even found the second dungeon..
  12. Fund Tim Schafer's next game YOURSELF!

I need to watch the video again, but I don't recall him saying that no modern games had good dialogue. He was just disappointed that the story and dialogue in the games that are being praised for having good story and dialogue today, don't really seem all that great. And that I agree with.
  13. The Legend of Zelda

I agree that he may be overhyping the original Zelda. Yes, it's old and controls like a bitch and is overly hard. But he still has a lot of valid points, I think. As much fun a hookshot and the various other Zelda items are, they are mostly just treated as keys. Guiding players through a game is all fine, but I do wish you had the possibility of entering areas that are just too hard for you. It gives the whole thing perspective! Maybe I'm misremembering some of the modern Zelda games, but I like the hell out of the fact that I'm able to walk to most of the areas in The Legend of Zelda, without having even gotten the Master Sword. I'll probably die when I get there. But at least I'm allowed to go there. At the very least we can all agree on his argument that modern Zelda games need to mix it up, surprise us. Break the routine. Right? Also, my playthrough so far: "Give this to the old woman" "The secret is in the tree at the dead end" COULD YOU BE MORE VAGUE?!
  14. The Walking Dead

"Episode 1: What is game?" was my immediate reaction to the title EDIT: Also, this was pretty awesome and funny. Jake and Sean should be PR guys for all games, 'cause I'm pretty interested in The Walking Dead game right now.
  15. Psychonauts on Steam

    Psychonauts 2 might possibly happen.
  16. Fund Tim Schafer's next game YOURSELF!

http://www.hookshotinc.com/interview-schafers-millions/ I.. I can not wait! At all!
  17. Psychonauts on Steam

    ....and we're back to normal!
  18. Psychonauts on Steam

This is just amazing! I've had nothing but success using Amazon with Kickstarter! However, that means I'm broke now.. I'll have money for backing this up before the 33 days are up, though!
  19. Psychonauts on Steam

This is so wonderful and makes me happy! I love how a person saying "I'll use my money to fund a sequel to a beloved game" somehow still manages to get negative comments on Rock Paper Shotgun.
  20. Want to make a video game...

Making 2D games with a Flash-specific framework is a relatively easy way to start. Check out either www.flixel.net or www.flashpunk.net . They both integrate into Flash as a way to quickly get the mundane stuff out of the way, like how to draw graphics/animations on the screen, input and physics etc. They both share a tutorial site called www.flashgamedojo.com - there you'll get some great "Getting Started" tutorials. Or, when you're ready to dive into more advanced stuff (but still, easy to use tools) www.unity3d.com provides a free engine and toolkit for making some 3D games.

  24. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

This text on the Bobby Bearing website baffles me: So, is he saying that Future Publishing made him threaten Mobigame with a lawsuit?
