That would be awesome, I'm a big Abrams fan, but nothing in that news story comes even close to confirming anything. This comes from an "individual with knowledge of the production"? Sounds like bogus rumors to me.

Yes! Iwata holding a banana for announcements should just be Nintendo's thing from now on. It's wonderful. Also, yeah, I can see that the Wind Waker remake is quite different in looks, but I think it's pretty faithful to the art direction of the old one. I wish they'd tone down that contrast filter that's making the shadows extra strong, though.. Loved the very smooth/subtle look the old game had.

Wow! Wind Waker HD. Now I need to get a Wii U.

Holy cow! Hitbox Team, the peeps behind Dustforce have announced their next game, a randomly generated tower FPS thingy of doom? It looks amazing. Like a first-person Wind Waker! And sounds like they're going for a similarly skill-based gameplay as Dustforce. This is a game I'm looking very much forward to, now.. http://hitboxteam.com/mystery-and-mastery

You are alone on these forums in thinking this is bullshit, I think he means?

Oh, I'm talking about the already existing AppleTV box, not the TV screen they'll release never. The box is just begging for an app store, IMO..
-
Get ready for the "Apple will kill Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony etc." when Apple revamps their Apple TV to play games.

Yeah, I'm with Rodi. I loved the atmosphere, RPG elements and the entire mechanics of the game. But I got too scared at some point to continue..

That's kind of why people are putting it down though, right? It's like 90% of video games, and it's therefore sort of boring? The trailer is trying to get an emotional response out of the situation, but I can't help but think that we're pretty damn numb to this sort of thing by now..

The Ship devs actually wanted to make a direct sequel for it, called Full Steam Ahead. But the Kickstarter for it failed.

2013 is also the Year of Toblix's Game. Predictions: :tmeh:
-
I'm just disappointed that it wasn't a picture of toblix in cyberlingerie. Also, is this a barbershop android? Why does she have blades stored inside her forearm?
-
I think he's not kidding and just saying that no matter what motivations the policeman has this teaser is still stupid/not awesome.. ?

Backwards compatibility is great and all, but it'll get in the way of the future: No Optical Drives! At some point, Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo are going to realise that retail is dead and that you can make smaller, less noisy, less power hungry consoles by simply leaving out the optical drive.

Also, this is a weird, but exciting, statement. So.. an open backend for developing your own Steam Storefront?? "Right now there’s one Steam store. We think that the store should actually be more like user generated content. So, anybody should be able to create a store, and it should be about extra entertainment value. Our view has always been that we should build tools for customers and tools for partners. An editorial filter is fine, but there should be a bunch of editorial filters. The backend services should be network APIs that anybody can use. On the consumer side, anybody should be able to put up a store that hooks into those services. Our view is that, in the same way users are critical in a multiplayer experience, like the fellow next to you is critical to your enjoyment, we should figure out how we can help users find people that are going to make their game experiences better. Some people will create team stores, some people will creates Sony stores, some people will create stores with only games that they think meet their quality bar. Somebody is going to create a store that says "these are the worst games on Steam." So that’s an example of where our thinking is leading us right now."

Neat! "We’ll come out with our own and we’ll sell it to consumers by ourselves. That’ll be a Linux box, [and] if you want to install Windows you can. We’re not going to make it hard. This is not some locked box by any stretch of the imagination."
-
The best argument I've heard for all this was that there is no one Steambox, but rather a platform of various Steamboxes from multiple companies, to give consumers more choice. Valve may or may not put their own out, but it would be in their interest to get Steam as the default gaming option on as many of these small console-like boxes. Also, Valve are apparently showing some different hardware/box behind the scenes to certain people... So yeah, the Piston is not THE Steam Box!

"Less streaky bacon" There's your box quote. In an attempt to excorcise the Mignola demon out of me (which is futile, since I'll be sitting down to read more Hellboy later, bringing him right back) I did this Mario/Mignola crossover thing!

I love that explosion! If you can make the in-game explosion look like that, I'll buy eight copies of your game. You should maybe just make the canyon walls less detailed, somehow.. And focus on some more hard shadows to define each vertical piece/pillar in the canyon? I don't know. It just feels a bit shapeless and smooth right now. Thanks! Haha, pipe-cleaner arms! That's a nice term for it.

Idle Thumbs 86: Always Support the Danger Layer

Amazing! -
Got this idea in my head for a comic about a couple raising their infant in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Haven't gotten much further, but drew this today so that I'd remember the idea later.

Same here!

I wonder if the people who complained about the art style back then still think it looks weird, cartoony and wouldn't buy an HD version.. Did anyone here on this board not like the art style back then?
