  1. Proteus

That one guy now pops up in every thread saying it's not worth the $10. I would understand if he was upset after spending said $10, but he hasn't.
  2. Proteus

I hadn't thought of that. At least, I will always remember this: There are some amazing things being said in that game hub.
  3. Plug your shit

My tribute to the infamous cat hair moustache puzzle.
  4. Proteus

Oh, wow. There are three posts at the top shouting "This isn't a game, don't buy it. It's shit. After 10 mins you've seen it all. It's pretentious hipster.." yada yada. Three different guys, and none of them have bought it! Is this like a vendetta against Proteus?
  5. Proteus

Yep, I hope he sells a lot to other people that aren't awful.. Otherwise, getting onto Steam would just be an invitation for awful people to berate your game for not fitting into their personal definition of what is worth being on Steam..? Also, someone questioned whether or not the guy even owns the game? Would be kind of nice if posting on the game's hub required you to actually have the game (Nintendo did that with Wii U, I think)
  6. Sweet! Thanks for clearing that up, Chris.
  7. The valuable setuff in DFA's thing is the toolset for writing and implementing dialogue, puzzles, items and stuff like that, and that wouldn't be game-specific at all. It would be genre-specific to adventure games, and would require work to make something entirely different from DFA. But it's probably generic enough to create what most AGS devs are doing these days. I think out of the box this thing will be a very valuable thing to get you started. But it might still be more complex than using AGS, I guess. Actually, I think they're not going to release anything that's actually game-specific. I don't remember the details. Chris can maybe answer this?
  8. I think they definitely said they'd release a certain portion of it as open-source, so hopefully others would join in and contribute to it.
  9. The Flash thing was called Lassie Engine or something like that. Wait, Project Fedora.. Isn't that the Tex Murphy sequel? I'm very confused now. Is that the same Chris Jones that did AGS?
  10. Plug your shit

You should patch it so that you can just skip the bosses, and you're guaranteed another article on RPS with the headline "Holy shit, this guy listened to me and made the game better."
  11. Unity is apparently pretty good at 2D, even though it isn't strictly built for it. Extend the editor with a couple of low-cost addons that are specifically for 2D and you're good to go. The Swindle is an example of a very 2D game made in Unity. So, get started, toblix! Now! EDIT: I wonder if some of the people using AGS for their games will maybe try out DoubleFine's adventure framework/tools thingy once they release it. Also, I think it's wonderful that people are buying AGS games for real money. They're good games and should be valued as such regardless of how their made. But like Erkki, there must be a lot of people that are confused when they first load up Primordia and it looks all weird and stretched and have go mucking about in a winsetup.exe file.
  12. It's definitely possible. Unity's editor can be extended to do pretty much whatever you need (easy dialogue, inventory editing and stuff). Kickstart it, toblix. Go on! Do it!
  13. I think the guy behind it stopped updating it, but made it open-source. Dont know how much effort anyone else has put into the open-source code, though..
  14. Oh no, no, just wanted to make sure that was your problem. It wasn't entirely clear! And I had to make fun of your monitor.. But yeah it's weird that it isn't automatically the right aspect. I mean, if the game is setting the screen's resolution to widescreen, then the monitor would just show it with borders, right? What resolution do you have picked in the AGS setup thingy? EDIT: Glad you fixed it! Yeah, AGS is old in stuff like that. it should be in the game's settings dialog instead of in a separate .exe. I wish someone would just make a new engine for all the adventure game devs to use..
  15. That's one old school 4:3 monitor. But what's going on? What's making you mad? That the game stretches to fit your weird monitor? There must be some setting somewhere to give it black borders at the top and bottom!
  16. Plug your shit

Niyeaux, I've now started reading your blog. It's ace! TP2k1, sweet! I still haven't finished reading that. I'll nab the new version. I just dug up an old comic I did for an art zine. Thought I'd lost this one, glad I found it, 'cause I'm proud of it!
  17. Discworld

Ah, there are some really good ones. You make some great points as to why they are so well-liked. One that stuck out particularly to me, was Moving Pictures. It was just such a funny deconstruction of the Hollywood machine as a mind-numbing, manipulative and hypnotic monster. Also, anything with the Night Watch is great.
  18. Disney buys Lucasfilm

This is part of what makes Anakin's arc in the prequels so hilarious (apart from awful dialogue, acting, cinematography, editing, structure and whatnot). He keeps re-iterating the point that "this is the good way to do things", everyone keeps saying "wait, are you sure? Sounds pretty evil.." and he keeps going back to his new master "Is this eee-vil?" and his master, now looking like an evil muppet, with glowing evil eyes and teeth that only evil people have, wrinkles and shit, he cackles and says "No, no.. trust me. This is ok. NOW KILL THAT GUY FOR ME!" This sort of good/evil stuff was fine in the old films, where everything is already gone to shit. But if Lucas wanted to go for the politics fo things, and showing how Anakin falls, he should've tried and given it just a bit of nuance. As it is, everyone in the almighty council just goes "Look at that guy, he sounds a bit evil, and looks awful. But I guess he's fine? Let's listen to what he has to say." Ugh.. it's all just awful. God. I rewatched Phantom Menace and Episode III a month ago, and man.. they're just.. even more awful than I remembered.
  19. Disney buys Lucasfilm

Yeah, the lens flares were definitely a part of the style of ST and were over the top but it worked for that style, but his graphics people still used them too much, I felt, in Cloverfield and Super 8. (not sure about MI 3) It's the sort of thing that perhaps bothers mostly someone like me because I work with video and am asked every day to "just put some lens flare on" and the stuff they use in Abrams films is a plugin that one of his guys wrote, that by now EVERYONE uses..
  20. Disney buys Lucasfilm

Apparently Disney has confirmed Abrams as director. This is amazing! Look forward to it (and hope his compositors go easy on the lens flare)
  21. Steam Greenlight

If it gets Greenlit and then fails at kickstarter, assuming that kickstarter was the only way for the game to be finished, Valve would simply not let the developer submit an unfinished game to the store? Slightly similar to how War Z was pulled for being unfinished.
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I feel obligated to direct people towards the icelandic band Moses Hightower, both because my friend's the drummer and because it's pretty damn good.
  23. Oh, man, just briefly tried Sublime Text and I'm sold!
  24. This is the new (console) shit!

I don't like where this is heading.. Agreement? Sounds like a made up word. Stop this immediately.
