  1. Unity

Aside from making iOS and Android versions free, they're also going to add stuff like real-time shadows (when using a directional light) into the Free version. Which is awesome.
  2. Feminism

It's real. Saw it the other day on TV. Switched the channel almost immediately. Aside from being sexist, existing solely for Blachmann's bullshit "emasculation" rethoric, it is also just unbelievably boring.
  3. Feminism

Also looking forward to the third video, if only for a slight pause in all these embarrassing clips. The second video was some pretty grim and awful stuff, and had me constantly glancing over at my girlfriend wondering what she thought of all the god-awful game dialogue performed in a way that made it sound like the beginnings of a porno..
  4. Feminism

I think the reason she reaches the conclusion is because of the relationship involved, not that the character happens to be female. From that, the fact that the character is female, she argues it's irresponsible storytelling considering the larger context of domestic abuse. Sorry about harping on about the intentional part, you never know.. I'm actually interested if there's a case of the opposite happening. Of course, there's lots of men turning into monsters. But are there any that then have to assaulted by their significant other to turn back normal (or, like in some of the examples, die in the process anyway..)? EDIT: I wish there was some way to make my tone clear on the internet, because I feel like I've come off more confrontational than I mean to. Sorry, Twig! Didn't mean to argue about anything, was just hoping to clarify what I thought Anita meant.
  5. Feminism

I guess I don't see why it's so far fetched.. Like I said, and Anita also says, this isn't to say that's what the developers are trying to say with these scenes. But this video is about interpreting and analysing any further meaning these scenes might have when looked at in a larger context beyond what the game's plot is trying to say. Saying those particular scenes (and the key scenes pointed at were ones that the player has to fight their significant other that has turned into a monster) could be interpreted as symbolic for a man exacting violence on their wife thinking they're "acting out of place". It's totally fair that that's not how you'd ever interpret these scenes, however. And you're right that this issue isn't necessarily about gender. Switch up the genders, but keep the relationship dynamic, and it could still be symbolic of domestic abuse. That doesn't invalidate her point, though, on the specific scenes she talks about..
  6. Feminism

She doesn't seperate the two. But her tangent about domestic abuse starts off when she talks about the sub category of Euthanized Damsel in which the player is forced to fight their loved ones. And I feel like it's fair to interpret the subtext of those scenes as domestic violence, even though that's obviously not the intended subtext of the developer. Describing a man attacking his girlfriend/lover/wife, I can't think of any other label to put on it than "domestic violence" even though in this situation the woman literally becomes a monster. transcript
  7. Armikrog: Earthworm Neverhood 2?

It looks great! The animation is better and more fluid than Neverhood's (stop-motion software has come a long way) By just animated film standards 900k seems like a low figure. But yeah, it might be a little hard to reach on Kickstarter. Who knows, maybe it has the following to reach the goal. How long has it been up? It's already at 50k, so it might get there fast.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

Reading a recent interview on AVClub it seems Hurwitz is a man of many ideas, so I think it might be selling it a bit short to say the only reason for its existence is the cast not being able to be together at the same time. That obviously seems to be a part of it in this case, but I think this idea might also just have to come about as a reaction, some time ago, to what I assume is a common problem for showrunners. But you're right, at the end of the day a lot of the structure probably comes from looking at the schedule and going "Ok, we have Tambor at that fundraiser that day when we're shooting Bateman, so that's a perfect place for this scene." (I think he even says something like that in the interview..) In the end, how/why the idea came about isn't as important as the end result, IMO. But the idea is still pretty clever and, according to the AVClub, groundbreaking. As an aside: The two ideas he mentioned in the interview were a) A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style version of Season 4's timeline, where you watch it all in one flow and choose which character to follow going out of each scene. He says it would be best done when you're rewatching the thing, to get to follow the story the way you want. And releasing an episode's entire footage disk, and let fans piece together the story the way they want to. Sort of helping fans out with what they already do with Fan Edits. Then someone could theoretically go and make a Season 4 in an ensemble-episode structure. Which would be kinda neat to watch. EDIT: That's a great review. In the end, I think it's better than just getting a possibly mediocre, disappointing, regular AD. I can see why people don't like it, and it's not always good. But in the end, I'm glad we got something different and new and surprising. EDIT again: Alright, it seems the consensus is that it's just a result of the cast schedule. But whatever, I still think the idea is great.
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

The Show Stealer Pro watermark joke actually making people think Netflix were too cheap to get the right to old material is hilarious.
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm 8 episodes in and really like it. It's deliberately different, I think both because the creator wanted to do something new with it and because a regular season would've never felt the same anyway. I kind of happy they made that decision, otherwise I would've constantly compared it to the original episodes and it would never have felt right. As it is, it's easier to accept them as a new take on AD but with the same attention to detail, and dynamic of the narrator. I didn't think it was stellar at the start, but did not find them difficult to watch at all.. So if you're not enjoying it a little at the start, then it's probably not going to win you over. I agree, though, that one-character episodes do feel slower and less dynamic and reveal just how one-note some of them are. And yeah, it does be a bit darker and meaner. But not much more so than I remember Season 3 being? Right now, every episode taking place around the same time has me the most excited. Getting little glimpses into each past episode, or noticing events that you figure might make an appearance later on, or seeing a hand at the corner of the screen and then later finding out it was another character sitting behind them. That stuff makes it really worth watching for me.. also, I still think they're so great at the visual humor. I like it a lot. I'll never beat the original, but it's doing a good job of being something new. Edit: watching this with a friend, he said he felt the fourth episode was the first one that felt truly as fast and funny as the old AD, and I agree. So maybe watch up to that at least before giving up?
  11. Video Games With Dynamic Music

That's sad if that's the reason they dropped it (and not because it's hard to do with recorded music as opposed to MIDI) because you'd think that was its purpose. To make it seamless, thus not especially noticeable.I do remember noticing it in the Swamp and going back and forth again and again to hear the different instruments join in the music. Fun!
  12. Armikrog: Earthworm Neverhood 2?

No no. TenNapel is the creator of the project, so this is his game design, puzzle design, story and art design. I think Schofield and Diets are the actual game developers and/or animators behind all his stuff. But TenNapel is definitely the project lead, or director.. whatever. And yeah, I was pretty fucking bummed out when I read just a couple of months ago about his awful bigotry.. I used to worship this guy's art. I even donated to an earlier Kickstarter of his for publishing a sketch collection before finding out about all this.
  13. Holy shit, Nappi. That one blew my mind.
  14. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

It also doubles as a water cooler, so there's some value in there..
  15. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

VIDEO GAMES! Are there any size comparisons yet? Sort of looked like XBOX ONE might be bigger than 360?
  16. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

Who said video games are doomed?

  18. Plug your shit

Nope, I love the new stuff. It is definitely funny and not-shit. Keep it up.
  19. Really, the Twitch.tv app has never successfully started the IdleThumbs channel on iOS for me. Always displays black screen only..

  25. SimCity: The City Simulator

Is there are SimCity thread already? I did nothing but watch endless clips of the SimCity beta yesterday. I'm really into the idea of roads being the lifeline of cities. Them costing money and zones not makes the early game more exciting, I feel. You have to operate like a real city, in a way. You can't just structurally lay out the entire thing from the get-go, and then slowly build in zones. This leads to more irregular, not thought out cities, I think, which makes it a bit more fun. I don't know, maybe making money and just planning the entire region out is easy enough.. Anyway, can we talk about SimCity here now, so I don't have to go back and forth from the Stream and Podcast thread or wherever else you people talk about such things.
