  1. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

HOLY SHIT! this thread is amazing already. I'm so happy with all the stories shared so far. Keep it coming, because this is all immensely useful and awesome to read. The iPad is brilliant when it comes to introducing my boy to reflex gaming because you don't have to worry about buttons. He can't do much, but slicing fruit in Fruit Ninja comes to him naturally and you can see his reactions becoming a tiny bit quicker. And he can actually fling birds in Angry Birds. They go every which way, and mostly never land on the pigs, but they be flung! That is the extent of my experience with Video Game Babies.
  2. The 3D models being pre-rendered into sprites that then look completely out of place perspective-wise irks me to no end (instead of having them be real-time, which could've had the exact same style), but other than that it looks wonderful. EDIT: The perspective isn't noticeable in-game anyways (in that beta footage), just stuck out to me in that poster on the last page. It still bothers me (especially as pre-rendering means the size of the game is probably 10x what it could've been..), but more on a OCD level..
  3. Let's Draw Video Games

    Haha, sweet!
  4. Let's Draw Video Games

I did some Device 6 fan art that I'm pretty happy with!
  5. Idle Thumbs 134: Sports

I guess I got sharked once, then. Some random person contacted me offering to trade something for something, and my something were the earbuds. I had absolutely zero idea that there was even a marketplace for this stuff. Man, that E3 video. I remember it now. Classic stuff!
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

It is indeed excellent. You should proudly exclaim that you think it is awesome. I've heard the sequel is not, however. Which is sad.
  7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

God yes, those Milk Bar songs are amazing.. ALBW's Ice Ruins is basically the same, then, I guess. Loads of small-ish floors. I don't remember the original dungeon, but that sounds similar. It's awesome, but I wish I hadn't got stuck like that..
  8. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

I'm currently stuck on that. It's weird, I managed to get to a floor, switch a lever to move a big floor panel. But then, stumped on how to move on I ended up jumping down a level and now I just can't remember how I ever got back up again.. Not expecting anyone to be able to help going from that info, just venting my frustrations!
  9. Idle Thumbs 134: Sports

Has anyone found the video of Charles Martinet saying 'Idle Thumbs.net is great!' in a Wario voice?! I need to see that. It's worth noting that Zelda A Link Between Worlds is a bit low-fi in a way, but it ends up making the framerate super-smooth. I don't think Super Mario 3D Land had this fast of a framerate, but I may be wrong.
  10. Video game music renditions

This thread is the best. Listening to the London Philharmonic ones right now! Related, Zelda: ALBW has multiple sweet, little renditions of its themes playing in the Milk Bar. They're all pretty great:
  11. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Thanks Sno for the hints! Made me realise I was just stalling and should push forward with the dungeons. I now only have one of the main dungeons left. Am I missing something about Rosso's Ore Mine? Is it just that bit of rocks up on Death Mountain near the sign? Seems like an awful lot of trouble (navigating through the maze of platforms) to get to seemingly worthless rocks (except for the few shiny ones). The renting is cool but it does seem like you can't actually do the dungeons in any order? Is this correct?
  12. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Well done! Well done. Holy shit! Full Throttle is up next.
  13. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Also, sometimes in Wall Mode you can see the lengths to which they went to recreate the top-down look of LttP in 3D, by slanting/tilting the models at a weird angle. A very unusual but fun visual trick.
  14. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Thanks! God, they make so much good use of that flat Link mechanic. Took me a while to figure out that you could use it to get those little collectable critters off the walls. Now.. about those Mitts? Am I just completely clueless? I haven't found a single hint as to where it could be.
  15. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

I'm really loving this so far. It has a sense of exploration and discovery that I feel has been missing a bit from the latest Zeldas. I don't know, it doesn't feel like it's signposting a lot of the stuff, allowing me to figure my own way through this. I would really love a hint as to what the hell I'm supposed to do to get the Titan's Mitts and Pegasus Boots. I just spent half an hour getting to a guy in the mountains who drank all my Premium Milk and just said 'goodbye' without giving me anything?! WHAT?!
  16. I'm confused as to which one of you two you are because your avatars look the same. For a moment there I thought Ronk was talking about smearing models in vaseline.
  17. Wow, yeah.. Had no idea Nuts & Bolts was highly regarded! I have a 360 and do not have this game. Sounds like I should.
  18. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

The GiantBomb quick look pretty much sold me on it. I liked the art style before, even though it feels like a step back from the beautiful LttP sprites, but it looks so damn smooth and faithful regardless. I realised I still haven't finished the special worlds of Super Mario 3D Land, so I feel a bit obligated to do that before buying this..
  19. Let's Draw Video Games

Amazing stuff, tegs! Really love the comic-y style of the ocean!
  20. Plug your shit

The filing cabinets and the books are my favourites. The office people one is good too. All three have really neat composition.
  21. I thought we agreed to never speak of this AGAIN!
  22. Says so in my profile tagline. Must be true!
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Holy shit, that Hulk article... Thanks for the link Merus.
  24. This is somehow the generation where I stopped playing video games almost entirely and only read about them here or listen to people talking about them on the Idle Thumbs podcast. I have played maybe four games in the last year or two. Part of that is that a baby was born.
