  1. Cities: Skylines

BTW, an update made it possible to switch the direction of one-ways! Makes quite a difference when laying out roads. Just select the upgrade road tool and right-click on a one-way road. EDIT: Is there any way to easily access all the things you've renamed? Renaming things seems kind of silly if you can't easily find them again.
  2. I'm so, so happy that they're both limited runs of 9 and 6 episodes. Now they can hopefully tell a good, shorter story in those worlds without worrying about having to serialise it or whatever.. David Lynch was suddenly very skeptical about Twin Peaks 2016 happening, but Showtime apparently quickly said this is still happening; This was all just the usual contract negotiation stuff or something to that effect.
  3. Cities: Skylines

I don't know if bicycling has ever been a thing in City Sims before, but it was just something that popped up in my head due to the ever-expanding swath of mods people are making. There's already a mod that allows you to build pedestrian walking paths that are zonable, so you could make a city that has no car roads!
  4. Cities: Skylines

I also started a city yesterday after watching the video Chris posted (and the guy's other Cities videos, they're a lot of fun!) It was a lot of fun taking it slow this time around, spending more time thinking about where my roads go rather than just constantly expanding. I make sure not to rush into the milestones, which sort of means I enjoy my little town a bit more. I got the same problem with forgetting to connect my residential to my industrial area, so the garbage trucks kept going all the way out of the region just to get to the landfill. Having forgotten how the youtube guy laid out his thing, I just put a one-way road over to the industrial area. I see now I should've extended my main residential road over to the industrial.. But whatever, now the trucks go into the residential from the little highway and go back through my little one-way connection. It bothers me immensely that I didn't notice the entry point was crooked so my little highway got crooked and everything I thought was straight is now crooked BUT WHATEVER! Just for funsies and to think about how to continue the road planning next time, I drew up the one ways. The green ones are potentially stupid and should be two-way.. But if I remove the one going to the industrial zone I lose the cool blue loop of trucks.. I think I'll keep it.
  5. Cities: Skylines

What do you mean? To the end that my cims (or whatever they're called) ride around the city using bicycles instead of cars sometimes? It just feels like a natural extension to me coming from a city where so many people ride a bike everywhere and with dedicated lanes for bicycles..
  6. Cities: Skylines

Can someone start modding bicycle traffic support in, thanks?´!
  7. Cities: Skylines

Wow, that was excellent! Time to start a new city again, I guess! Edit: Oh no, I just fell into the rabbit hole of just watching this guy's videos of playing Cities: Skylines instead of playing Cities myself! He shows a larger city he's built and it's wonderful with so many intricate little traffic details!
  8. Idle Thumbs Forums.... I choose you!

    Even Nick! Welcome!!
  9. Amateur Game Making Night

    Nice! So it's a bullet-hell driving game?
  10. So.. it's happening. Nintendo Mobile games. Brought to you by DeNA. On the one hand, I don't mind mobile Nintendo games. Give me cool Nintendo mobile games, please. Advance Wars: iOS? Yes, please. On the other hand, DeNA? I don't think I've heard of anything but shit, same-y Tower Defense etc. games from them. So.. them handling Nintendo's IP? Not very happy about that. They're also handling Nintendo's new unified online infrastructure. Which is.. well, they can't possibly handle it worse than Nintendo, but is there any reason to think they're any good at it? I don't see any reports mention what DeNA's track record is for such stuff?? Bonus news: To assure people they're still into dedicated game hardware, they announced the mysterious codename NX. A brand new dedicated gaming hardware with no details whatsoever. Hope this isn't what replaced Wii U in a year or something, that'd bum me out a bit.. (source)
  11. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

Please. It's been sixty years, obviously.
  12. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

Yeah, most digital d-pad games on iOS are pretty awful to control, so lets just say I hope Nintendo resists that temptating prospect!
  13. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

When? I'm honestly asking, because I don't remember them explicitly making that statement. They probably have, but talking about if they'll *ever* make a game for another platform is a bit different from actually talking about a platform and stating their immediate goals for it, which is to not just port games. I'm not saying they won't *ever* port games to mobile.. But it seems like their current goal is to make new games specifically for smartphones.
  14. Cities: Skylines

I think this is a game where you just sort of have to set yourself some goals outside of just profitable/stable city. I was thinking it'd be fun to see if the simulation supports minimizing car traffic, seeing too how big a degree you can do this and divert traffic to public transport instead.
  15. Ori and the Blind Forest

I just died. This is so good..
  16. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

They've explicitly stated they're not doing straight-up ports of existing games.
  17. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

I introduced my 3yo son to MineCraft!! The down-ward spiral to addiction begins now. Actually, it was really fun. First he just sat in my lap and watched as I built a little house on my iPad and put chickens all over the place. He was really interested in a pig, so I opened up a hole and trapped it inside our house. Then I realised Pocket Edition has local multiplayer over wi-fi, so I gave him the iPad. Obviously he can't really figure out the interface, but he learned how to not look up into the sky all the time, at least. Then I downloaded MC:PE to my iPhone, and logged onto the iPad's game and it was a lot of fun! I could actually see him build these little walls of stone in his immediate area (because he hadn't figured out how to walk around) and could walk up to him and he went "There's Daddy!" It was adorable and I can't wait to do this more with him some day until he decides Daddy's not as cool to play with as all of his cool friends and now he wants a dedicated server to play with his friends and "How do I make it so *you* can't log on to our server, Dad?", OH NO!
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

There's also subliminal messaging in that official trailer! Fun times! I did like the Iwatani bit. It was cute. (even though it was obvious where it was going) I have an urge to unlock a lady Lisa now, for some reason..
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Thanks, Ben! That made me chuckle out loud in the office!
  20. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

They've explicitly stated (Iwata, I think) that they will not be doing ports. These will be new games made for a touchscreen interface. So that's at least out.
  21. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

NO, BEN! THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVELY EPISODE VII THREAD!! :(
  22. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

Also, here's the full transcript from the conference: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2015/150317/05.html
  23. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

I'm definitely not afraid of low-quality stuff. I'm confident that these'll be really well-produced mobile games. And that's super exciting! The only thing I'm afraid of is them dipping their toes in F2P and doing it badly. They might do it well (that baseball game sounded like it had a really interesting bartering F2P concept) or they might do it badly (from what I hear Pokémon Shuffle is just basic, boring energy system), but I'm super excited about some Nintendo-quality mobile games. I just hope DeNA don't do too much consulting on how to design the perfect whale-manipulating F2P system, which from what I read they're really good at... Unified Account Platform is Ace, though. Super excited about this! EDIT: This has been a rollercoaster-ride of emotions this morning, all the way from just hearing "Nintendo & DeNA", looking at DeNA's list of games and thinking "WHAT?!" and to now being cautiously optimistic about this and honestly, a bit excited!
  24. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

If Nintendo is very hands-on about the games, I'm fine with this. Most of my fear of this came from DeNA being one of the worst offenders when it comes to gross F2P mechanics, but if Nintendo "flips the table" on that kind of stuff I'm fine with a mobile Nintendo branch. Also, unified account stuff is great and good that they're getting help with it, and they seem confident that DeNA has lots of experience with that. Also, Advance Wars on iOS. Advance Wars iOS. Advance Wars: Internal Operation Strike Avaaaaaaance Waaaaaaarsssss in my pocket! EDIT: There's no confirmation that NX is to replace the Wii U. Dedicated Gaming Hardware could also refer to a handheld. OR something more exciting like a handheld that also streams to your TV or something, I dunno!
