I used to live in an even deeper and darker hole in Ireland, and I have an 11Mbps piper straight to LONDON there. Who the hell uses dialup anymore?

Do Not Ever Badmouth Carmack

This happened to the FÁS building down the street from me, and the spraymanship (coinage) was absolutely dire. Contrast that with the car park down the other street which has some really nice burners up there, and a good mural of a hooded graffitist. Not up there with the LA murals, but certainly not vandalism.

I've got the first one, and thought it got fairly boring after a short period, as the stuff you do is basically the same all over. You have a great big array of weapons to choose from but end up using the wrench all the time because it's the best (and free). Maybe this new one is better, I don't know.

I liked the Grim packaging, the little cardboard splitfold thing is like a Constellation records release (which are the best music packages ever, including crushed pennies) I'd prefer DVD packages if they weren't made from petroleum plastics, but it's not like we're dumping millions of them, so that's ok. The uniform size is nice, because you can put console, pc and dvd discs side by side. They're about the same size as a good paperback book too, which is good for shelves and the like. Most of my old pc boxes have been sqooshed. Things seldom stay in their cases in my place though.

First educational console? Sega Pico, people. -
Art Cyclists on Ice, the feelgood hit of the summer!

Somehow I find it fairly unlikely that Dave Perry is going to hire anyone with no qualifications. He's farming his forums for kudos. That's a Video game idea right there!

Dave Perry can go f*ck himself. Want to be a game designer? Design a game.

Allow thought to be transfered to digital media. This is in fact the one thing I'm holding out for. As long as this is made possible before I die, then I'm sitting pretty! Barring that, working cryogenics.

eMule (and overnet, and various other donkey-style networks) are nicest for ebooks, soulseek is the nicest for music bittorrent is the nicest for everything else (especially if it's big)

Well back when I was in secondary school, I didn't try and cog my answers from Internet Message-style Forums!

That looks like leaving cert (pass?) maths! I have often made use of the mnemonic SOHCAHTOA meaning: Sin = opposite/hypotenuse Cos = adjacent/hypotenuse Tan = opposite/adjacent In case you don't know (and you're in real trouble if you don't), the hypotenuse is the side across from a right angle, the opposite is the side across from the angle you're working on, and the adjacent is the one left over. Just don't talk to me about hyperbolic functions Do you do calculus this year?

'3D images on computer screens' patented in 1988. Lawyers hover.
Twilo replied to jp-30's topic in Video Gaming
He'll lose his patent when someone pulls some prior art on him. What about Tron (1982)? And another thing, images on computer SCREENS aren't 3d, because SCREENS aren't 3d. The patent is oxymoronic! -
Fractalicious! You can see some points there where one image is inserted into another, like inside that guys mouth, the image is framed in black. Likely thing is that after a certain amount of zooming out, an image is destroyed, so you don't get cluttered with them, ditto for when you zoom in and the previous image leaves the borders of your screen. The quality of the art is pretty high, and it's the sort of thing you can only do with computers; it could be made into an installation or something.

I'm only asking the questions that need to be asked!

Fundamentally, I would say yes, as "hotness" as a meter for beauty is objective. Emotional ties will sway the meter, however, and thus at anything higher than the base level, any such measurement is imperfect when made by offspring of the testee. Ha, "testee"

FFX is a lot of fun, and for 24 bucks you can't really do much better (on the ps2). It's a tad too linear, but the combat is deep enough to keep you interested for the 40-odd hours it takes to play through. 40 hours is pretty good for 24 bucks; give it a chance. I'll never "get" MGS, there's barely even a game there.

The Game Gear didn't come with a rechargeable battery. It ate AA's 6 at a time. 4-6 hours is fine; like a PDA.
