  1. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

That could be true, I'm not much into technical stuff. But wouldn't we be getting there? The PS3 and Xbox 360 are two very powerful beasts, and I doubt we've seen the best of it yet. Look at God of War on the PS2, I never thought that was possible, it's one of the few games I've been shocked by, and this late in it's life? I know that if the developers are good enough, they can squeeze juice out of a rock, and I can't begin to imagine where the games are going in five years time. After one year on the Xbox 360, I'm finally getting to see what next generation can be about, by playing games like Dead Rising and looking at gameplay videos of Assassin's Creed. I believe that Rockstar themselves said they had to squeeze a bit to get San Andreas on one dvd, and that's not even a very good looking game, and doesn't include very complex physics either. I believe it will be much less restricting for a developer to have more than enough space than having to constantly think about what they can keep and what they have to remove. As I said, we already have games on two dvd's, I doubt that in five years time it'll be different. And some games just doesn't work on two dvds. Oblivion, for instance, could never work on two dvds, it needs to be one gigantic seamless world, which it already is. And if games are going to get past the size of Oblivion, we'll see a lot of strip downed X360 versions, whereas the PS3 versions will be 100% since it's using Blu-Ray. Make a few dozens variations and run them through a randomizer that creates more variations for you? Wouldn't that work to a certain degree? Maybe not, I'm not an expert, not even slightly knowledgable on this kind of stuff, but I do believe a lot of developers uses some kind of generator tools for these kind of things?
  2. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

ah, but it's only bad because it's Sony, isn't it? They've been into the gaming business for years now, it's not like the thought "hey, let's make a blu-ray player and disguise it as a Playstation 3", is it? But I guess, they see the PS3 as a movie-player then, and don't care about gaming at ALL. ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Gran Turismo and such is the proof of that, isn't it? I mean, they want to own the movie-market, not the gaming market, surely? People act like Sony's out to get them, for some reason, and that's just plain irrational. And I don't see what the problem is anyway, they also have a 60gig for the "premier pack", and it costs as much as my first PS2 cost me. The price is basically identical. It's like the people who complaint about game prices, when the games cost so much more to produce than 20 years ago, while still maintaining the same price. We, in the "rich" part of the world are so spoilt, I'm embarressed to be a part of it.
  3. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

Uhm, why would you think they only added it for movies? It's a new format, they wanted to use their new format, and it'll be used for games as well as movies. And history shows that everyone who says "we'll never need that much space" have always been proved wrong. Not to mention the fact that almost everything is compressed nowadays, which is the reason why they fit on a single DVD. Same with PC games really, it just copies everything over from the DVD or multiple CDs. And games on the PS2 already uses DVD9, why wouldn't a PS3 have games that spans even more of them? I already have a 2-DVD game on the PS2, and I know that Final Fantasy XII is supposed to be at least two as well. And don't forget that currently, all games uses the same textures a million times throughout the game. Well, what if we had enough space to make a lot more unique textures, and thus creating an even more impressive world? I wouldn't mind, that's for sure. Sorry for the long rant, but this idiotic anti-sony sentiments reminds me of extreme paranoia at times.
  4. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

I guess none of you really read what he was saying? He's not saying adding a Blu-Ray drive didn't have an impact on the price, he says that adding movie playback funtionality of said drive doesn't add to the cost. And elmuerte: that's a horrible idea, it defeats the whole purpose of consoles. Why not just use a PC in that case?
  5. Alan Wake

What "other"? Isn't that just about it, besides the Conker remake?
  6. [Choose a Classic] Burnout 3 or Burnout 4?

There really isn't much left to do with the Burnout series though, 3 and 4 were basically identical apart from the traffic thingy on 4. Burnout 5 could be interesting, but I doubt it'll feel like Burnout anymore. It'll probably be like Midnight Club but with fancy crashing, and a lack of licenced cars.
  7. [Choose a Classic] Burnout 3 or Burnout 4?

Didn't say you should buy them all, I said you should TRY them all. 'cause they all have their own "thing" to stand out from the others. But of course, if you can't try them all out, I'd go for Burnout 3 too, as that's the cheapest, and you know what you're getting (since you already tried it).
  8. [Choose a Classic] Burnout 3 or Burnout 4?

Casual poster here, but if I'm allowed to give you my opinion, I'd say you can't really skip any of the Burnout games. The first one concentrated a lot more on the drive fast, don't crash theme, and difficulty was accordingly. It's a pretty hard game, but that makes it even more satisfying when you drive a perfect round. Burnout 2 introduced the Crash mode, if I remember correctly, and I still find that one to be the best. None of that multiplier nonsense - but I know lots of people enjoy that. Burnout 3 and 4 just seems to emphasize on driving reckessly, 4 moreso than 3. Revenge is more like an expanded Takedown, but I miss the hardcore elements of the first two, which made crashing a much bigger deal than in the last two. When you crash in the last two, it's nothing special, it happens all the times, and you don't really care if you crash or not, and you don't really desperately try to keep on the road. The thrill of not crashing for a full round has completely gone. So, I'd say, give all of them a try. They all have potential to become your favourite, not just the last two.
  9. Paul Stanley - Live to Win

Paul Stanley's new solo album, first one since 1978, Live to Win has been leaked. And my verdict? EXCELLENT! This is Paul Stanley in 2006 mode! His best work since '92 (Revenge), and an incredibly strong comeback. Every single song on this album is a potential hit! This is how Bon Jovi SHOULD'VE been, and he even shows Limp Bizkit how to make a good Limp Bizkit song - we all know they'll never manage themselves. Not to mention his incredible voice being better than it ever was!
  10. Paul Stanley - Live to Win

But I'm not. Just a big fan, that's all.

  14. Old PS2 games

Anyone mentioned The Mark of Kri yet? One of my favourite PS2 titles, and undecervedly (that's the word?) ignored by gamers. There's really no other game quite like it either, so it should feel fresh, even if it's 2 years old now. And Rise of the Kasai is about to be released, which is the sequel. I'm buying it, and hopefully more gamers will too, once they realized the uniqueness and quality of the games.
  15. 603 f#&king megabytes?!!

I wonder when it reaches the point wher nobody wants to download demos anymore. Hell, 603mb? Won't this tempt people to just skip the demo and download the full game instead? For piracy to end, it has to be seperated from logic.
  16. Maniac Mansion

Get yourself an A1200, with a Blizzard 1230 accelerator card, a harddrive (somewhere around 3-4 gig), and 16mb fast. Then get yourself WHDload, and register it. It's very cheap, and probably THE best utility on the amiga right now. With WHDload you can install just about every amiga game there is onto your harddrive and run it from there, and you'll never ever have to think about disks again. The only problem being you have to have the original games to install with WHDload, but it's no hassle getting hold of pre-installed WHDload games, if your counscious allows that. I recommend that you get yourself a CD-ROM or a PCMCIA network adapter to easily transfer files and games to your amiga. If you get all this, you'll have the ultimate amiga gaming setup, with games like Lotus 2, Monkey Island 1 and 2, Moonstone, Super Cars, Stunt Car Racer, Sensible World of Soccer, Kick Off 2, Giana Sisters, Civilization, Dynablaster, Project X, Alien Breed, Worms, etc etc. Everything just a few clicks away when you want to play them. It's also much more user friendly than WinUAE.
  17. DS, PSP ...... N-gage? (neh)

I'll probably be getting both. The PSP is as big as the Gameboy advance, so I don't see why everyone's saying it's too big. At least, that's what someone with hands-on experience said. DS looks great, but I still don't think this touch screen is as revolutionary as Nintendo wants us to think. It's just a gimmick used to sell better. Even the technology is old (although never used on a handheld). The one thing I'm wondering about is how come almost everything that's coming from Nintendo that's new and untried is a revolution, but if something new and untried comes from Sony, it's an evil and stupid gimmicky product from an evil company?
  18. I love cell-shading when done right. I don't like it in bad games or when the cell-shading isn't done right. Of course, that applies to every technique ever used nin games. Zelda Wind Waker looked great! You have to see the game in action to see what it really looks like, screenshots can't justify the games quality graphics. This is Cell-shading done right. Also, Dragon Quest VIII looks great, and so does Dark Chronicles 2. There are a few games that could work great with these kinds of graphics. A Monkey Island with cell-shaded 3D graphics would look fantastic. And of course people will complaint about new technology whenever it comes up. All of us who are adventure gamers are experts in complainting. We should know.
  19. Seriously, aren't we tired of these stupid polls over and over again??? Monkey Island 2
  20. Actually, Geoff Crammond have confirmed that he's currently developing a Stunt Car Racer sequel. He's been making Formula One games for too long, and he wanted to make something new.
  21. If you were a filthy rich developer/publisher....

FUCK! I wrote a very VERY long post, and the whole thing told me I wasn't logged IN! I definately don't feel like starting over. Damn!
  22. GTA clones - any good?

They were probably afraid of angry adventuregamers screaming for Sam and Max. But seriously, you would have thought a gamedeveloper in trouble would make the most of the PR it gets at a big show like E3. They obviously didn't think it was necessary, but if they want Mercenaries to be a big hit, then they have to market it too. It's not a Star Wars title, so it can't rely on that. Kick the marketing staff, who must be doing nothing these days. They're obiously busy playing the near-complete version of Sam and Max 2 and having more fun with that, rather than trying to get the company back on feet again with some actual work.
  23. I must say, this is one good looking site. Congratulations to the chaps that made this, I like it a lot. But on-topic, Sensible World of Soccer have miles better gameplay than Kick Off, and generally better graphics too. I have both on my Amiga playable from harddrive (along with 3-400 other amiga games), and while Kick Off have lost some of it's appeal over the years, Sensible is still on my favourite games list (where Pirates! and Monkey Island 2 is too). Kick Off 2 feels more like a pinball game where most depends on luck. SWOS feels like a soccer game in a much more genuine game. And skill is very much an issue with SWOS. Everything is just so smoothly implemented, dribling, running, tackling, heading (both diving header and normal headers), bicycle kick, aftertouches both on and above ground, lobs, shots, passes. The keeper have also been improved from every game, and the last game (SWOS 96/97) actually has a very good keeper that stands heads above the Kick Off keepers. So that's not really an issue with the correct version of the game anymore, like some people pointed out. Oh, and Speedball 2 is fantastic too! But Speedball 2001 wasn't very good, I have it. I actually gave it away, wasn't even worth keeping just for the name.
