  1. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

I hope they were of the interactive kind, like the one that Meathook from Monkey Island has.
  2. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

    Speak for yourself!
  3. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

Hehe, the PS3 has only been out in a limited part of the world for a couple of weeks, and you're comparing the selection of games to the 360? Plus, the only reason GRAW isn't on the PS3 is because the PS3 wasn't out when GRAW was released. But it was released on the PC, PS2 and Xbox. Yup, as you said, the majority of your favourite games on all consoles came from out of nowhere, and thus there's no reason to think that the PS3 will be a worse choice than the Xbox. Not suggesting that you said so. Just saying, 'cause it does seem like you're comparing the games on two systems way too early.
  4. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

Good question. I must say that most of my favourite Xbox/PS2 games weren't anticipated, and they were surprising titles. For example, I had no idea about Grand Theft Auto 3 until two weeks before release. I never thought of this when I bought the PS2. What I DID think of though, is Metal Gear Solid 2 and Gran Turismo 3, not to mention Final Fantasy X. And in the end, while more than just decent games, they weren't the highlights of the PS2 for me. Some of my favourite games on the PS2; Rumble Racing (came pretty early on), SSX, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Metal Gear Solid 3, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Burnout, Silent Hill 2, Onimusha, The Mark of Kri, Sly Cooper, Maximo, Shadow of memories, Pro Evolution Soccer. 90% of these games were completely unknown to me when I bought the PS2. This happens with all of the consoles, really. I bought the Gamecube for Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine. Wind Waker I loved, but I was pretty dissapointed by SMS. I bought the Xbox for Splinter Cell and I knew Psychonauts were coming out eventually. I got KOTOR, Fable and Prince of Persia. Those three, plus many more, were completely unknown to me when I invested in an Xbox.

If you're not going to take history into account, you can't really be sure until it's been at least 2 years. Nobody knew what games would be available on the PS1 when that arrived. But with Nintendo Wii, we know we're going to get Zelda and Mario, and other Nintendo IPs. With PS3 we know we're going to get MGS4, Gran Turismo and the next project from the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus team, as well as Pro Evolution Soccer, which many prefers to play with a Playstation pad. The Xbox will offer Gears of War sequels, Halo, and games from Rare. If you add up the history of games on each console, we will realize that the best place to be for japanese developed titles will be the PS3, and if you love fps and typical PC games on a console, we know the Xbox 360 will have a strong lineup of those. Nintendo hasn't had good third party support for a long time, and not even multiplatform titles will be a given on a Nintendo console. The Nintendo is strongest if you really crave Nintendos first-party titles. But if you're not going to analyze the console history, and just wait for more concrete evidence, you'll have to wait at least two years, maybe three.
  6. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

I'm not sure i can agree with you that, unless you think FPS and macho-games mature. I don't though, I don't see how Gears of War or Halo is any more mature than, say, Resident Evil or even Motorstorm. Can't agree with this either, and again you somehow say the games aren't mature enough, when in fact, the number of games is just larger, and has a wider selection of them. You make it sound like a game can't have colours to be mature, or any kids games at all. And what the hell is mature about Gitaroo? And what do you have against Ratchet and Clank? Did you play it? It's got a lot more mature approach than most games out there, but it's made in a way that everyone can enjoy it. It's colourful, yeah, and it's a platformer, and it's mature. Although I do agree that the title was a bit off, I guess it could be an internal joke or something. I don't think the games consoles are that different. I also can't see how people don't find any games on the PS2 appealing, 'cause it's got excellent games in every genre known to man. It's got a wider selection of games than any consoles, and they have at least one AAA title in each genre. The only thing that really seperates the consoles are the selection of games and how broad that selection is. The Playstation reaches across the whole board, while the Xbox doesn't really have an enormous amount of games in any genre. It's majority of games are western made. And while they're usually different from japanese titles, they're in no way more mature. I say buy your console based on what games you want to play, but don't think in any way that you're any more mature if you choose the Xbox.
  7. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

You need to do something about that grudge of yours. You have an unhealthy view of a perfectly normal business corporation. Ken isn't the devil, and Sony isn't Hell. He gave an opinion on how things are for the moment, and I actually agree. The next-gen race won't really start until the PS3 is out. We're still in the preliminary stages of the next generation of consoles, and once the PS3 is out worldwide, the real battle will begin, and thus developers will start to focus on next-generation development, rather than just developing PS2 games and porting them to other systems. This doesn't necessarily mean that the PS3 is any better or worse than the X360. They're both very powerful machines, and the both will provide us with next-gen content, just like the Wiii will, only on a different level. But once all the consoles are out and the next-gen market is big enough, that's when the battle starts.
  8. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

I think you're misunderstanding that statement. It's not meant in an arrogant way. It's meant in the way that the PS3 will probably be the one to lead us into the next-gen market. So far we've only had a taste of the next-gen market through the Xbox 360, but it really has been on the fence up until now. They just had a head start, like the Dreamcast had a head start. When the PS3 is is out worldwide, and with a reasonable amount of gamers having them, that's when the next-gen really kicks in. The next-gen race won't start until the PS2 is half-abandoned, and the PS3 has sold a million or more. And when the next-gen race has started, it becomes the current gen.

Who says it's not great. Most of the time, the negative press has been based on Ken's comments and statements. Now that he's gone, maybe the negative press will go down a bit. Which is obviously good. Also, the whole GTHD thing wasn't very well received. So now they'll release the same thing as a demo on the marketplace for a limited time. Which is good for the consumer. And they also opened up the possibility of releasing GT Concept games for download, like they did with GT4, only this time it's not boxed and only available for download, so it'll probably be a lot cheaper.
  10. Gothic 3

    Quicksave is a nice option.
  11. PS3 backwards compatibility glitch.

Excuse me for having, you know, opinions. Shame on me for having a different view on things than the commoner.
  12. PS3 backwards compatibility glitch.

They've said that later models will do software emulation. They won't add it however, if it isn't at least 99% compatible, like it is now. And they've never said ALL games will work, they've confirmed that 99% of the titles will work, and that's pretty much the same as it was with the backwards compatibility on the PS2. If anyone expected 100% compatibility it's their fault, not Sony's. They never said it was going to be. If you decide you're not getting a PS3 because of this, then you were never going to get one anyway. You just pretend you were going to get one to make this sound any worse than it is, and you're just a troll, looking for a way to bash Sony (for something they don't deserved to be bashed).
  13. PS3 backwards compatibility glitch.

    Very very likely
  14. PS3 backwards compatibility glitch.

The above list was taken from THIS site. A lot of obscure japanese titles and some AAA titles. Most of them only suffers from glitches, and a lot of them have been confirmed to be fixed by the firmware update 1.10 (which I think comes on a disc with the north american version of the console). Also not, that this is the japanese versions we're talking about, and they still have version 1.00 of the firmware. 1.10 will be released by the time it reaches the US.

  16. PS3 backwards compatibility glitch.

Someone said it like this: On the Xbox360 you have a small list of games that works On the PS3 you have a small list of games that doesn't work I prefer to have the second. I also read that most of the games that don't work, just don't work PROPERLY. That is, sound glitches, video problems. Most likely, these things will be fixed when they release their firmware updates regularly, like on the PSP. Also, on the list of Xbox 360 games, many of them still have problems. KOTOR for example, suffers from horrible framerate issues, and I found it completely unplayable because of it. Every frickin' fight slowed down to about 5-10 fps, which just isn't acceptable. It stutters as hell.
  17. Peter Molyneux gets homoerotic *snigger*

To be honest, I'd love a new Theme Hospital. He didn't do that did he?
  18. Peter Molyneux gets homoerotic *snigger*

He makes decent games. Most of the time it's way above average. Fable was a great game, but people expected too much. It's a shame that people buy so much into hype that they just can't see a good game even if it hit them in the face with a shovel with the words "this is a good game" written on it. I think it's obvious that he's just enthusiastic. I look forward to all of his games, and the last games in no way shows that he's on a bad roll. I expect the next game to be good too. And if it IS earthshattering, that's great, but I'm satisfied with even an "ordinarily" good game.
  19. Peter Molyneux gets homoerotic *snigger*

Two years? Hell, I got all emotional when Elaine was kidnapped with Guybrush standing on the dock in the Secret of Monkey Island! Games have had emotional impact for as long as I remember.
  20. "You wanted the best, You got the best! The hottest band in the world! KISS!" KISS is one of my all-time favourite bands, and Strutter is a fantastic song (but not the best).
  21. I'm waiting for Gizmondo - the Game.
  22. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

Eh, I've never really cared what the hell they're saying anyway. All I care about is the games, and the PS3 will certainly have enough of those. If I were to boycott a company because of suspicious activities or statements, I'd never have an Xbox either.
  23. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

You're missing the point, I'm saying that people shouldn't prejudge a consoles power this early in it's life (it's not even out yet). That's why I think the Blu-Ray could be put to good use, if the PS3 proves powerful enough to stream a much bigger variation of textures. We'll se eventually how the Blu-Ray business ends up as, I think MS' decisions to use DVD instead of HD-DVD was a mistake, as they now have missed the possibility to use the HD-DVD format for games. Well, they COULD use the HD-DVD add-on for games too, but then I think that would be a very unwise marketing decision. After all, if you have to buy both an Xbox 360 and the HD-DVD add-on, then you might as well get a PS3 instead.
  24. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

That's besides the point. I was just saying to the naysayers that the console just isn't powerful enough to stream a more varied number of textures, and saying that I was shocked at the graphics from a game that came in the end of it's life. I know the most technically impressive games appear at the end, and I used it as a proof that people always underestimate the consoles. I belive that seeing the true potential of the PS3 is still far way off, but people still say the consoles just not powerful enough to manage the numerous times more textures deal.
  25. Phil Harrison busts out the doublespeak (again)

I believe the developers choose to develop for the most popular console, not necessarily the weakest one. If the PS3 ends up being the most popular, there will be games that either don't get an X360 port at all, or will be stripped down due to lack of space. Oh, and if repition is required to for streaming content, what stops the Blu-Ray having the same? And DanJW, I'm sure there will be smaller games as well. And I loved oblivion for a long while, but it was a bit empty in the end. And it kinda looked the same anywhere you went. Morrowind was a lot more varied, although I didn't like that. I prefer the colorful style of Oblivion. But let's there was more variety, that would've required a lot more space, wouldn't it? And I do believe the PS3 is powerful enough to bring us an Oblivion with a lot more variety. I'm exceted to see how Gothic 3 turns out, on the PC.
