Also, does anyone know something about Star Ruler, a 4X game? Seems interesting.
-
Ah, good. Found a couple of interesting ones: Scratches - is this the game Steve Gaynor mentioned in an interview about Gone Home? Robin Hood - a game with many flaws, but if you enjoyed Desperados or the Commandos games, you might like parts of it (at that price I dare recommend it)

The game is inside all of us

That was a bit weird indeed.

1GB of RAM seems a bit low Also, I'm color-blind. So it seems like a stupid investment to back this now. I'll wait for the reviews and the patch where they fix the color-blindness issues.

I think my problem when playing the first time was that I thought this was a game that constantly required quick reaction times or very precise movement. Well, it does require the latter occasionally, but in most of the levels it seems the fastest path is actually the easiest one. This means you just figure out the quickest path and memorize all the movements needed to complete it -- instantaneous restarts make that easy. So it's not about quick reaction at all (mostly) -- once you start reacting to things, you've already lost (at least when it comes to getting a good time). I find this to be a very cool aspect of the design -- essentially making speedrunning the easiest way to play. The leaderboards seem fucked up, though -- there are some zeroes in there, and even with a seemingly very fast time, I was the 11000th on a level.

I don't know much about Android. Does it have a single marketplace like there is for Apple's iOS, or multiple marketplaces / direct purchases from devs/publishers ? I think this might turn out fine if it runs existing Android games and if they don't look too blocky on a big screen. I don't see a lot of developers making Ouya-exclusive games, but porting to it is probably easy, especially if you've already released on other Android devices. I assume the controller vs. touchscreen thing is a big difference between a game developed for Android phones/tablets and a game developed for Ouya?

Just kick down the fucking door.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Leave out the achievements and the stats screen and the game becomes even better.

Us and the Game Industry is another movie about indie game developers that got kickstartered. I backed it (I think only 15$ or so), but things are a bit iffy with it. First, this kickstarter succeeded: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/627987916/us-and-the-game-industry/ Except just before the end, it was only half-way there. So it seems the creators probably put their own money into it. Now, there's another kickstarter that is for "polishing" the edit: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/627987916/us-and-the-game-industry-for-show This seems a bit scammy: seems they put their own money in to get the project backed, and then asked for roughly the amount they financed in another kickstarter. What happens if the other kickstarter fails? Do I not get my reward from the previous one? (copy of the movie?) Anyway, these concerns aside, it looks like a movie I'd like to watch, focusing on different developers than were in Indie Game: The Movie. At the moment I'm not going to pledge though.

Depends if I was previously a fan. Usually not, probably, although I haven't backed that many projects so I don't know.

Seems to be more game than Dear Esther at least. I haven't read the interview fully yet, but what I imagine is -- you piece together the story of the place by exploring, but there is too much to go through it all -- so already found items giving you hints about what more too look for. And in the end, maybe you get a different ending depending on how much you've seen...
-
Well then, you must then all back it so I can get my reward! Man, it's so hard to read that language."The joy of kickstarter is individuals getting to know about projects. Under 400 people got to know about the film last time." WTF? I didn't give 15$ to "get to know about the film". I thought I gave it so I could see the film. But I think the film will be still interesting, the fact that she communicates so badly in written form, doesn't mean she can't make a good film.

Well, the part that brainy jobs often payed less than relatively simple jobs is true. I don't know how that came about exactly, though. And don't have any links for you.

Crazy Mansion: an alternate take on the MM/DOTT universe

I think I'm actually starting to like Super Meat Boy a bit! After something Edmund McMillen said in Indie Game The Movie, I figured maybe my first attempt at playing it was a bit misguided. I remember lots of frustration, but I think I skipped some levels or missed some detail about the controls or went straight to some harder levels. I'm doing better this time, doing the levels in the linear order.

Hmm... actually the wording of the original is pretty vague, and I guess I just made some assumptions: This project seeks your support to assist in its completion. The funds raised through Kickstarter will enable us to continue, to complete shooting and edit the great footage we have. From skimming the page again, this is all it says about what the money is for. The rest of the text describes the movie itself and the rewards. So possibly they planned this anyway, but still they could be clearer in their communications. The wording in the updates even seems to be in a relatively strange and vague language, almost as if coming from a politician.

Cloud gaming... What's the Moore's law equivalent for bandwidth? Bandwidth usage has been growning exponentially, and from watching that video I guess the US is in trouble soon for mobile bandwidth, but what about landlines? Also, however low the added network latency can be, it's slightly funny to compare this with... if you follow John Carmack on Twitter and see him complaining about the latency of monitors being bad e.g. even just for the visuals a PC has already rendered to reach your eyes might be happening much slower than ideal.

Sure, I'll figure out whether I can give you the one I bought or the one I got with the Overgrowth pre-order and then I'll PM you. But getting sleepy now, so I'll do it in the morning.

What video game or game series would you like to see become a movie?
Erkki replied to bishvabis's topic in Video Gaming
Loosely based. I think the environments got some inspiration from there, but probably more from the real-life Chernobyl exclusion zone and more generally soviet architecture. I love Tarkovsky's Stalker, but Stalker: The Game: The Movie would probably be something quite different. [edit] Also, Thief would probably make a pretty bad movie. In fact, many of my favourite games probably wouldn't make a good movie, or at least something important would be lost in translation. At least not a good Hollywood movie... maybe an European or indie director could make a passable effort at Thief: The Movie. -
Whaat? Overgrowth pre-order already gave me this game for free? Should've read the details. [EDIT] I'm giving away a free copy of Receiver

Ok, that was why I didn't get it then because I never saw that scene, or at least it didn't register. I did when I had to quit the game midway and the last save point took me back just where I could choose that dialogue line. It didn't change much, just some offhand comment that

Hmm... obviously everyone who replied already got the moment you were talking about, but I did not...

Yes, it's quite good. It keeps putting you under this sometimes real but sometimes seeming time pressure and then force you to make a choice. In a couple of places I felt like I should have had more time to look around or explore before taking one path or the other, but that's a minor complaint. One thing that is good is that I never really wanted to go back and choose differently, but maybe that just speaks of how little time I have to spend playing games these days. How does the REWIND option work? haven't tried it yet.
