What weird thing? I may have missed it. Just finished the game.
-
Yay! PS. I installed it and after logging in some license agreement or something popped up, but I somehow automatically clicked Disagree. I have no idea what it was. Could someone who will also be installing it take a screenshot of what I disagreed to. Please, it's driving me nuts.

So I just started with the PC version. Played in one sitting until the ship, but didn't go in yet. I kind of like it so far, although it surely has problems (incredibly annoying "tension" music when stamina goes low). The first time I died and the game sent me back to the previous "save point" (which incredibly was way way before a major cut-scene after which even the fucking game title was displayed), I immediately turned the difficulty to easy so I have infinite "retries". This system is really stupid and I cannot fathom how they came up with that. The checkpoints are usually right before combat so quite ok, but with limited "retries", how the hell did they think: "the player already failed multiple times, lets punish him more and make him go back and redo the whole level." That's just intolerable and noone should ever play this on anything but easy mode (unless they are utter masochists) and have to think about "number of retries left". The game is quite playable on easy. Also I wonder how anyone could get by with less bullets than I have so I'm curious whether the difficulty also affects how many bullets you can find? The combat seems ok: it's like a mini-puzzle: figure out whom to attack first and then try to save bullets as much as you can. Of course you might fail to solve some of them the first time, but not as much as in Hotline Miami. I always try to go for the pistol-guy first, even if one with a knife starts pushing me -- I'll move over to the pistol guy anyway and "surprise kill" him. This seems to save me some bullets. I've never had a mutually-pointed guns situation where a bullet or two wasn't fired. The thing with helping the other survivors is so-and-so. When a woman needed a first-aid kit for her son, there were 3 ambulance cars nearby. Instead, I found a first-aid kit lying in some hole in the road (I can believe the cars were stripped long ago, but still...). Some girl refuses to eat anything but a tomato. I'm never sure whether I can easily come back to them later or not, so I don't know whether I should search around and help them now or hope to find the thing they want later and come back.

So I guess this thread is about framerate? -
So I finished it. The second island turned out to be rather boring after I'd done about half of the base takeovers. Also I was getting so good at that, and/or had enough meds that everything became a piece of cake. Ending sucked. Still, moving around on the islands and exploring is somewhat fun, I might still try to do some of the optional stuff, find relics and boxes. Have done none of the Rakyat challenges and very few Wanted Dead missions.

Well, it's not like easy level in this game is really easy, though. Some games I've died in the first or second sectors even on easy. Also, don't worry too much about unlocking other ships. IMHO, the first ships has just as good a chance of beating the game as the others.

Oh, I guess I am in that region then. I didn't actually know it was cheaper. I thought you meant like Russia and whatever else is in the really cheap region. I do see Deus Ex HR for example being as cheap as in IT instead of as expensive as in NL.
-
Gifting from another region should work. The guy who traded me Far Cry 3, RAGE and stuff for Max Head was probably in that cheap region (which doesn't include any of EU AFAIK, or does it?). I'm not, though. There's a vote for Dark Souls to be 50% off so maybe lets wait for the result of that vote. Would be great if you could get it for me and I can get you something else for about the same value?

At the time THPS (or was it 2) seemed like maybe one of the best games ever but I suspect they don't age that well or at least feel less awesome now. Haven't played any skating games in a while though.
-
Hmm.. I find that if I make a good enough plan that lets me take out the alarms then it's usually a piece of cake, but if reinforcements show up then I might be in trouble.

The layer of shit in this game is incredible. I probably don't know any other game that does so many things wrong. But I still think there's a great game beneath it the crap if you manage to ignore it. I don't understand what's your problem with the dragging though. It's a skill you unlock and then you initiate a drag whenever you start going backwards during a takedown. Or maybe it was just a bug? PS. The thing I miss most from Far Cry 2 is the importance of rivers. They are mostly useless as a means of transport in this game because the roads are safe enough. Although the rivers weren't safe either in FC2, sometimes it made sense to use them instead of roads. Especially on the second map I think. Here they just add some variety to the terrain and only get occasional use. The fact that you can make the world almost completely safe (aside from predators) also sucks, but then the respawn rate in Far Cry 2 wasn't ideal either. They should have found some kind of balance between the two extremes.

Sorry, maybe not appropriate in this thread, but does someone want to trade me Dark Souls? It's not available in my region Also, I have these Steam gifts if anyone wants: Ben There Dan That / Time Gentlemen Please Bundle, Monkey Island SE Bundle, Dota 2, Half-Life, HL2 EP1, Puzzle Agent.

Apparently my whole Region is not ready for the Dark Souls experience.

If you start by doing the radio towers on the second island, then the second tier weapons become free pretty quickly. Frankly, I don't even need them that much. The previous weapons work for me. I mostly use the bow and a sniper rifle and a silenced assault rifle.
-
Hehe. I started playing completely differently -- I mostly ignored story missions and immediately went to hunting animals and crafting more pouches. Then I did some more side-mission stuff and cleaning out the bases. When I finally started feeling like I want to get to the second island, I started doing the story missions. And I felt slightly annoyed how long they took cause I was really getting tired of that island -- it all feels samey. There's beach and non-beach "biomes" and that's basically it. No real jungle anywhere, just some copses. Ok, the more mountainous places add some variety. The second island seems a bit different somehow, although I haven't explored it all yet. Also seems more real, it reminds me of the western part of Crete in some ways. Maybe the first island doesn't seem like a real island because I haven't really been to any tropical islands.

I never finished SotC. Not sure I want to take part of this if it lasts a whole year or more, but I may be house-sitting in mid-January with a PS3 on hand so I might just play through it then. I doubt I'll be able to put down the controller. Or maybe I might, could try stopping and resuming next month. -
I got to the second island so I guess I'm half or more done? Half of my impressions so far are very good. And perhaps it got even better when I got to the second island. There's a brilliant game underneath the layer of all that crap (the popups, the handbook, leaving the mission area etc.; killing bears with SMG's? I wanted to throw up). I think it's occasionally far more similar to Far Cry 2 than most people admit. Scouting out a camp, circling it to get better views, then executing the plan, this is all feels very similar. Especially on the second island, somehow. I dare say such moments of gameplay have even been improved from Far Cry 2 (for example by tagging, although the visual indicators are maybe a bit over the top) if you close your eyes to the pop-up insanity. I should actually finish it and think about it more before I write my full opinion, but some aspects of the game seem to me very much like a continuation of Far Cry 2 in a different setting. Maybe it's because a lot of the code / the engine is still the same? And then they pooped all over it with those notifications and shit. One more thing -- the respawning in this game seems even more awful than in FC2 (I mean before you clean out the camps and in non-explicitly-cleanable camps). I swear to god in one (admittedly largish) lumber camp, guys just respawned several times while I was IN THERE! EDIT: The fact that I don't find far cry 3 to be that much of a far cry from far cry 2 makes me think whether I should go back and play the first one as well.

Wow, I hadn't even read the dumbest ones when I wrote that.
-
My BOTY (Bow of the Year) goes to Far Cry 3. And Dishonorable mention for GOTY goes to the Far Cry 3 Handbook.
-
The game is pretty good! Otherwise I wouldn't still be up at 5 in the morning. Some of the systems feel as dumb as many people have said already, though. And the dumbest things of all are the various item and other descriptions in the menus.
-
Wow, I actually got Far Cry 3, Rage, Monkey Island SE Bundle, Ben There Dan That Bundle for my Max Head! I could have gotten more money's worth (Far Cry 3 + Hitman Absolution + Assassin's Creed 3) but I wasn't that interested in the latter 2 and it would have been keys for those games which are not as safe to trade as actual inventory items. PS. Thanks TunderPeel for the TF2Outpost suggestion. Took less than 24h from posting it to the trade happening.
-
No it actually correctly asked for superuser rights when it needed. The issue I have seems to be with LD_LIBRARY_PATH which I can't be arsed to deal with, really.
-
Yep. I'm gonna get Miasmata anyway, but hoping for a better deal. At least I know have I Am Alive to play! PS. I put all the games I really want on my wishlist and left the Steam mobile (iPhone) app running in background, which is supposed to notify you when something on your wishlist has a daily deal or something. That didn't happen with I Am Alive. Has that mobile thing worked for anyone?

Not very likely considering the person might be anyone (like a 4 year old kid or someone who already has a successful career).
