  1. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Ok, I'm getting used to the weirdly fast tree animations. Also, turned out the player animation speed just seemed too fast because I had toggled on run with Ctrl. I've been alternating between keyboard+mouse and the PS3 controller and both work fine. Maybe I even prefer the keyboard as it makes more shortcuts available. The game is really good now that I'm getting used to some of the quirks. I started doing some of the side quests in the first village, even though I didn't plan to at first. It's cool that some of them require detective stuff, even if it's just linearly following a trail, brings out the best moments of Geralt as a medieval detective in the previous games. I hope the whole game will have a lot of this, and perhaps more complex with some actual puzzles. Also made me think of Anachronox, even though I don't remember how much detective stuff there really was in that awesome game.

Speaking of making of Mad Max, and movies in general, where do you guys more knowledgeable about the making-of stuff get your info? I haven't been a big movie buff historically, but now that I have a big screen at home, I'm kind of turning towards being one a bit, and Mad Max: Fury Road has certainly rekindled my interest in seeing how the stuff is made (in general, but especially this and the previous Mad Maxes). Are there any good forums or blogs I should read?
  3. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I turned everything to Ultra with GTX 970 and it's mostly fine, although I guess the framerate could be better at times -- I haven't measured. I seem to be the only one who is finding that some animations have weird speed? For example the branches/leaves in the main menu, and in-game. Seem to be just animating too fast*, like there was a constant ridiculous storm. Similarly, I find the movement during combat to be a bit faster than I like -- I guess they updated it from previous game similar to what the unofficial patch did (which I didn't like). * At first I thought this was a bug affecting my PC, but I looked at some youtube videos and it's the same there.
  4. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I guess, because I've been playing it for a bit! Something seems weird though. Most animations seem speed up, like objects moving in the wind, player animations etc. Feels weird. Looks gorgeous on Ultra settings! [edit] Also the game keeps notifying me that KEYBOARD AND MOUSE DETECTED! CONTROL SCHEME CHANGED! When I select save game, it pops up a dialog where it says that game saves saved with this version of the game will be incompatible with the previous version! and I have to press ok to confirm that... Then when I entered the game after I used the NVIDIA thingie to "Optimize" settings, it said that it reset all user settings when I went back to the game. Looks like it has some issues...

Hmm, I dunno. The first unlocking failed, now I've restarted Steam, deleted some folders, and am trying again. I have Spanish Steam but I don't yet understand everything esp. error messages so I'm not exactly sure what went wrong.
  6. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

It's unlocking now! A few more minutes and I'll finally be playing it after all this anticipation (which was somewhat damped in the end by the weekend release of the Fury Road)!
  7. Mad Max

Well, I read all the Game Informer stuff, seems like it might be a competent game and the vehicle combat + upgradeable vehicles seem like a unique enough angle for an open world game. I hope it will be more than competent, though. I'm also hoping there would be vehicle-hopping, but so far they haven't mentioned it. If the vehicles feel anything like Flatout or Wreckfest, then it would be awesome, but I guess they will feel more like the Just Cause games. I haven't played them a lot, but they seem kind of more like Michael Bay floaty than George Miller physical? I guess I should give Just Cause 2 another try to get a feel of it.
  8. Mad Max

It was people's fear of the unknown. Which I'm really disappointed to see in these forums.
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

Just saw Mad Max Fury Road for the second time. It was still as good, I'm still excited. I want to see it once more this week. I think this is a movie which's impact on the future of cinema is going to be amazing. I can imagine that if I saw this as a 7-year old kid, I would have decided immediately that I'm going to make movies.
  10. Mad Max

I'm seeing almost the same kind of baseless negativity here as Shadow of Mordor had before release. Guess I'll just stay out of this thread until the release.
  11. Mad Max

No, not really. There isn't any escort mission in there at all.
  12. Mad Max

I somewhat doubt that an open-world game (it is, right?) of Mad Max could capture the insane road battles. That would be more like Naughty Dog's forte. But this could be a good game anyway.
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

It brings tears of joy into my eyes! Thanks, George Miller!
  14. My favourites were Brotherhood and Black Flag like many others'. At the moment I have no real interest in keeping up, I will likely play Unity, Rogue and Syndicate back-to-back if possible. Maybe I'll skip Unity. I did that with 2 + Brotherhood + Revelations if I remember correctly. Actually I'm kind of bored of all the big AAA open-world action series right now -- haven't played Arkham Origins, Far Cry 4, GTA V (this one plan to get for PC as soon as the price drops a bit).
  15. Non-video games

I have also played it and I really liked the way the different roles had to collaborate. I definitely want to play again as a different role.
  16. Well I'm hoping it won't be bottlenecked because I have an even older CPU - the i7 2600 (also 3.4 GHz) - and otherwise a similar system. In Batman Arkham Origins, the perf test gave me 58 FPS average (with V-Sync) with everything maxed (including AA) at 1080p, so I'm hopeful. I don't know if any other games I have are more performance-hungry so I'm not really sure, though.
  17. Actually maybe the K820 is too big. Might even consider the K830 for smaller size, but it has lighting and thus requires charging,
  18. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Partial PC upgrade done and Witcher 3 pre-loaded. Can't wait! I hope my 4-year old Core i7 2600 CPU and 1333 MHz memory will be enough.
  19. I wonder if the K820 is better. it has a similar battery life and after experiencing the K400 battery life I don't want any keyboard with less than half a year of it.
  20. Fuck, so I upgraded my computer and the problem with the K400 keyboard choppiness remains. I guess it's a defect with the design of that model after all, and the PS3 driver didn't screw up my USB ports https://forums.logitech.com/t5/Keyboards-and-Keyboard-Mice/Wireless-Touch-Keyboard-K400-bad-reception/td-p/782927 That problem is weird though, people reporting that the keyboard starts to lose signal when on their knees. I have the same issue, but I never thought it might be something like that. Still could be a coincidence.
  21. I watched the Director's Cut as well. Not sure if I have anything interesting to say, maybe I'll just lurk. I have recently seen more than half of the movies recommended so far, but it will be interesting to rewatch them with a more critical eye. Would "The Woman" be a good movie to add to this list? I found it extremely disturbing and watching it again wouldn't really be an enjoyable experience, but it might fit the topic well.
  22. Usually what happens when I do a major upgrade is that I leave the old computer more or less complete so I can give it away to someone for whom it would be an upgrade (mostly my sister gets free upgrades this way). So when I upgrade to Haswell (or by the time I upgrade, maybe Haswell is old news), I can still put together another machine from the old system. I'll likely also put the current GTX 570 back then and move the new GTX 970 to the new machine (unless the standards for connecting graphics card will have changed again). So in this convoluted way, it makes sense that at the moment I just spend the ~100$ to change the mobo
  23. Well, the mobo has issues. Some of the USB controllers seem to be ruined, and the SATA controllers were defective from the start, but I was too lazy to get the motherboard exchanged for a new one while it was possible (didn't need an extra hard disk back then). I'll have to throw that old mobo away, but I don't also want to throw away the CPU or anything else attached. So I'm making sure it will form a functioning system before I do a real upgrade some time later (if it's even needed for a couple of years). Wish I had thought about this a bit earlier, didn't realize it had been 4 years since I built the system. Not counting the by now slow HDD, it's still 7,6 or 7,9 (max) on all points in the Windows performance index. I guess the i7 CPU has even been a bit overkill.
  24. Well, fuck, of course it's no longer orderable... I guess PS4 became more desireable now... or maybe I should do a full upgrade of motherboard AND CPU -- 3 CPU generations have passed in 4 years. [Edit] Hmm... I think my demands on the motherboard were a bit unreasonable based on previous purhcase. I just saw that some cheaper motherboards would be more or less ok, although I worry about the quality of the embedded sound chips. [Edit2] Damn, well, the cheaper ones were not orderable either. But there was one ASRock Z77 board. Hope that works out, as I never had an ASRock board before.
  25. So my choice is actually between buying a PS4 with Witcher 3 and upgrading my PC. Maybe I could do both, haven't calculated yet. For PC, I'll go for the minimal upgrade: GTX970, an SSD, and I need to replace the motherboard because of issues, but there seems to be only one available that fits my system and demands: Gigabyte Z77X-UD4H (I have 2nd gen Core i7 processor). Only one seller here still lists it and it's out of stock. Hopefully I can still order. This is the stupid thing with supposed future-proofing of PCs: everything just keeps changing so much that you can't very easily upgrade just some parts 4 years later. So if I were buying a new one I would forget about any future-proofing. I think I'll fix this computer as good as I can and then get a new one next year.
