  1. Interesting. I remember Enlight mainly from Seven Kingdoms -- a strategy game that was awesome, if flawed, at its time. I think they mostly do strategies. Why hasn't anyone made something like Seven Kingdoms? The same concept with modern graphics, AI and UI would totally rock. Or maybe there is something similar that I'm unaware of -- I'm rather ignorant when it comes to the strategy genre, only liking a few very specific games (Seven Kingdoms, Knights of Honor being some of the favorites). To get back on topic, Scrapland was nice, I liked the demo but for some reason never got the full game.

  3. Beyond Cheesy?

    Whey do you think so?
  4. Penumbra

I just bought all of the Penumbra games and I'm really enjoying the first one. It's like Thief: The Dark Project meets first person adventure games and survival horror, and Trespasser I guess, though I didn't play that much. The sound effects and music are pretty good and it looks a lot better and more polished than an earlier demo I played. The user interface could do with some more polish, but it works well enough as it is.
  5. Dantes Inferno trailer

The EG preview did mention quick time events (a'la God of War).

  7. Dantes Inferno trailer

It looks like the game might be awesome, despite the name-dropping. I don't think the new PoP game had much to do with the original Prince of Persia (or Sands of Time), but I still liked it. Could be the same with Dante's Inferno.
  8. Tallin's website has a history of assorted horribleness, but I guess they've toned it down a little. They even have an interactive map, but nowadays just using google maps is better (more responsive), except when I need to find some public transport routes, which is seldom.
  9. Escape from City 17

Cool. Though it irritated me that almost all the sound in the first half was coming from left. Watching the second time, it wasn't so bad. I have crappy speakers so could be their fault.

  11. Android

Can you say how it compares to the iPhone 3G?
  12. Tomb Raider: Underworld

I bought this with Prince of Persia after the episode that talked about both of them. I've played only a little bit, but my first impression is that this game is utter crap compared to PoP. I really don't understand what people see in it. The combat is boring, the platforming is ruined by awkward camera. The controls are somewhat ok, though. Sound is really weak. I really do not see at motherfucking all how this even compares to the excellent platforming in Prince of Persia (which had a few minor issues, but the overall polish was miles above). ok, so i get to my first puzzle, the game suggests I open a PDA and it tells me "I need to find axles in other places with glowing Jellyfish". WTF how the hell is she supposed to know that she needs to look for axles near Jellyfish? I just don't get this game. I may keep playing though, maybe it gets better.
  13. Putting chalk on your cue is essential, it keeps the cue tip from sliding off the cue ball. Especially important if you want to put a spin on the cue ball (by hitting it not in the center).
  14. Orbitum

Here's a of the prototype of my current game project, Orbitum (name subject to change). I think it's best described as radial breakout. I was initially aiming for a cross between Peggle & Breakout, but I'm not sure what exactly I'll end up with. Still experimenting with different gameplay elements and I haven't even begun with graphics. Might release a playable prototype in a few months.I'm writing it in Scala, and also a reusable 2D game engine (game entity system, actually) codenamed Gamp, using Slick and JBox2D as the basis, the latter of which I ported to Scala. If you watch the video, the game changes a bit at 0:50, when the Magnet power-up is activated.
  15. Orbitum

In a month or two, I think. I'm a bit stuck with level ideas. I do have many ideas for levels and gameplay elements, but I'll have to test some of them out, which takes time. And then I'll have to test their combinations too. The magnet doesn't actually work that well with some other stuff I'm trying, so I'll have to limit it's use or drop a lot of other stuff. Also, the Box2D physics engine isn't that good in some corner cases so I might have to tweak that too. Maybe I'll just release a somewhat polished one-level prototype at first and then work on new levels and features.

  17. A Prince of Persia?

Interview with the producer of the new Prince of Persia game: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34581.html WTF? Ok, this already started after Sands of Time, and I stopped playing the series after Warrior Within, but now it has become really obvious that they are just milking the title while making some completely unrelated game that perhaps shares a few elements. [edit] the original quote was perhaps a bit out of context so I quoted a longer sentence
  18. Orbitum

Currently you turn it on manually after you find it under one of the objects, and it is turned off when you lose your ball. Then you can turn it on again. But it would probably be best if you can turn it on and off at will. I'll probably make it so that it will stay in your "inventory" after you get it for the first time.
  19. Orbitum

Yeah, I actually prefer the minimalist style myself. What do you mean by loose/bouncy? That it should react faster to the magnet?
  20. Orbitum

A . Improvements:* FRAPS instead of webcam (and higher res, not intentionally blurred this time) * shorter: only 30 seconds * music (will probably not end up in the released game, depends on how much the licensing will cost) * some graphics (probably temp) * you can now see the score * makes more use of the magnet (see for yourself) I'm basically just experimenting with the space theme, I'm not sure what the final game will look like. I currently plan to give the player two strategies: * if you want to play around with the magnet, Orbit around stuff etc., do that and get score bonuses * if you like fast-paced play, forget the magnet and go for the time bonus (or use the magnet to increase velocity instead of decreasing it!)
  21. A Prince of Persia?

Yeah, the ending sucked. And what a bright idea to show the credits twice.
  22. Honda Insight

I never get excited about cards, and don't know anything about cards and don't care either and I always feel kind of left out when people I'm with start talking about cars. But I want this, even though it looks ugly from some angles. I've wanted it for months already, but it only comes for sale this summer I think. It's a hybrid similar to the Toyota Prius, but cheaper. But what's really cool is that the "Econ mode" sounds almost like a video game. It gives real-time feedback -- the speedometer background varies between green and blue depending on whether you are driving economically or wasting fuel. Your history is also rated and are awarded with leaves for driving green.

Another circular breakout with gravity: http://www.fugly.com/flash/751/Plastic_Balls.html I didn't find that very fun, though. I think I can do better
  25. Orbitum

Thanks for the comments. I actually have thought about making the magnet a central gameplay concept rather than just one of possible power-ups. I also have some other thoughts for the direction I want to take the game in. Not sure which will win yet. Maybe I'll do a first very simple version as a browser-game and then take it in a different direction. The level layout in that video was just something I could most easily create to play around with, but yeah, most likely the boxes/pegs/whatevers will end up being arranged more circularly.
