I must admit, the Strong Bad games are better than I thought based on the first demo! And they are longer than the Sam & Max episodes, I think? At least it took me more than half a day to get through the second one. Some of the mini games are nice (I especially liked the strategy game at the end of ep. 2), but the collectibles stuff I don't care about. I don't mind that it's there, though, for those who would. I bought the whole season after receiving an e-mail about the special 20$ offer for those who bought Sam & Max.

GDC! Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade 2: Don't look at me, I'm Hideo
Erkki replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I got the same impression as you, Rodi. -
If you google "bank of happiness" you may find that some crazy Estonians are starting such a thing. Somehow I got involved in it and I was thinking maybe you bright minds could help with something. The basic idea is that people help each other and are awarded virtual currency for their good deeds. And this is powered by some IT system that is similar to social networking sites, but people can only appear under their real names (only the first name is visible to strangers). I just got involved and noticed the current suggested English translations are kind of sucky, naming the currency "Star of Thanks". This is a direct translation, in Estonian it's "tänutäht" from "tänutäheks" which roughly translates to "for thanks". tänu = thanks, täht = star How would you name such a currency in English? I thought of these: ex gratia. although this might be confusing as something called "ex gratia payment" is an entirely different thing. thanknote (vs. banknote) thank star (just a slightly better version of the "star of thanks" imho) Make a good suggestion, and an entire nation (and tomorrow, the world!) might start using the currency you named. (I should note I'm not the one who decides this, i'm just trying to come up with a better suggestion for the translation)

Thanks everyone! I forwarded all the suggestions, personally liked gratia the most, but almost everyone liked thanknote and it seems it was decided to go with that.

No front insert on mine.

Thanks for posting that! I already watched it on gamespot but that had some parts missing

GDC! Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade 3: Morality, the Medical Surprise

Outlaws was great! It also had pretty fun multiplayer mode, although I'm not much of a multiplayer gamer and don't have that much to compare it to. -
GDC! Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade 3: Morality, the Medical Surprise

I just got hit with all the conf grenades in a row, 210 minutes of thumbs. I'm actually playing the Maw since yesterday (on the Xbox because the camera controls are more responsive than in the PC version). I do like it a lot, but I also got the feeling that it was a little sadistic. -
Yeah, it looks like it could be fun, but I also didn't like how it got difficult really fast so I'm probably not going to buy it.

I reject your matriarchal interpretation. It's clearly a penis full of urine.

Oh... I wasn't actually aware they blurred heads. Should have been paying more attention. Still, I think there's no a hard line between something really shady that the society has a right to know about and something you just don't want to be publicly available to anyone with just a few clicks. For example, if this was as widespread as google search, I could see employers searching for job candidates on Google StreetView (at least in Estonia your home address is usually in your CV).
-
It doesn't matter what is common sense, there are people who want their privacy whatever their reasons for it (often just principle, but of course we do know there are such things as wrong opinions so maybe they don't count?) and they may not necessarily be aware that something like Google StreetView is violating that. I don't know, maybe it doesn't matter so much because probably half the people who have a cell phone also have a camera that isn't really easy to detect so basically anywhere you walk where there are people around, anyone could make a photo of you or film you and put it on the internet with you being oblivious of the fact. Well, I don't care that much about it myself, but I still don't like the way we give up privacy so easily. And I respect the people who don't really want that. Probably most of our parents and grandparents fall under that category.
-
I somewhat agree, especially if its as easy to get photos removed as Dan said, but what about the people who have no idea what Google streetview is? They don't even know they are up there and any damage is probably already done by the time they find out, if they do at all. Should people be checking StreetView constantly for the places they go to to see if they show up anywhere they don't want to?

it's not really horror, IMHO. And I'm not sure I like it. Just played a little bit. I'm inclined to agree with RPS so far, but I need to play some more.

I didn't see many of these glitches, they only happened to me once or twice, and fairly early on. I also liked the dart rifle a lot, though.

Dead Space is indeed probably more action than I want. As for Bioshock, I didn't really find it to be very scary. Maybe I just didn't play far enough? ( can't remember where I left off) I guess I'm in the minority here, but I didn't like the gameplay in Bioshock that much, although the visual style was superb. Yeah, the Thief games are some of my all time favorites. And even though the third title wasn't as good as the previous, Shalebridge Cradle is one of the most memorable levels in the series. There are also some fan mods that are survival horror. Perhaps I should play more of those.

Thanks, somewhy I didn't think of that. I started playing it about two years ago but didn't finish. Should give it another go. I played FEAR, but it's a bit too much of a shooter for me. Not that I don't like shooters, but the shooter/horror combination somewhy didn't suit me that much.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth [Old game playthrough]
Erkki replied to nonamermcgee's topic in Video Gaming
Finished it yesterday. Awesome game! A lot of the stuff shown in early videos was cut though, which disappointed me a little. The combat and stealth were not particularly good. Too bad Headfirst didn't make it, I would have loved to see what they came up with for the sequels. IMHO, games like DCotE and Penumbra is where adventure games should have headed, instead of staying with the point&click formula (I still love Sam&Max though). I just played Overclocked: The History of Violence after reading about it in the Aggies awards feature at adventure gamers and while it did some interesting things with the story and structure, it felt painfully old-fashioned and even had gameplay issues that the best point and click games didn't have 10 years ago. -
Just completed it. The ending was a bit of a disappointment.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth [Old game playthrough]
Erkki replied to nonamermcgee's topic in Video Gaming
The game is pretty good, except for the savepoint placement. Often it forces you to watch cutscenes several times and redo some longish sequences. For example the warehouse near the docks: takes a pretty long way to get to a point without saves, then a cutscene plays and some guys will rush you. The game gives you no chance to hide, it's programmed into the cutscene that they will see you. Also, the enemies constantly shouting and only varying between "Spread out!" and "Find him!" (or whatever the other exclamation was) gets annoying sometimes.
