"This game will make you hire a hitman to kill you because you're too scared to do it yourself." - IGN.com

It should have one more thing, though: link to a thread discussing the game.

And Yet It Moves By: Broken Rules Available: direct purchase from the website, Steam, etc. Synopsis: A unique platformer where you rotate the world by ninety degrees with arrow keys and move the character with WASD. The visual style is a collage of ripped photos and pencil-drawn characters. More: http://www.andyetitmoves.net/ More: [thread]6434[/thread]

I installed it (the process was a hassle*) and while it is quite pretty from videos and screenshots, if you pay attention to the details you find lots of things like this floating path (attached) * first you have to install a downloader, then launch the downloader through the web site, then let it download the game, then manually go into a directory you guess should be where it downloaded it, run the setup program, which fails silently until you clean up disk space, then run it again, then again, now it's installed, you try a few times to launch the game through the web site, it fails, you almost give up but decide to try once more, finally it works.

So there is some more footage from both the game and the tools. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/04/22/automagic-love-footage-and-tools/ I'm especially impressed by the tools.

Carnivores? I loved just walking around in those worlds but the game was shit.

When I got my Xbox 360 (a year ago), I spent hours trying to understand how to connect it to my PC to stream movies from it. I couldn't do it and gave up. Now I noticed Azureus Vuze installed some update, searched for "Vuze Xbox 360" on google, found it indeed has support for it, enabled the option to share media with devices, turned on my Xbox, went to "video library" and holy fuck, it showed my computer right there. Unfortunately, it doesn't show the videos there yet, it seems I have to first select to "transcode for Xbox 360" for any videos I want to watch on it. [edit] yay! it works. and over my shitty wi-fi

Maybe this from world of goo I couldn't figure out if it was some strange indie gameplay feature or just a bug. It was a bug. But my favourite exploitable glitch has to be this from Divine Divinity . Or the way you could go through fences in GTA1. Or in fact, all the numerous exploits/fun bugs found in GTA1.

Idle Thumbs 24: Shadow and Colossus: Back in Action

Merriam-Webster: synonyms moral, ethical, virtuous, righteous, noble mean conforming to a standard of what is right and good. moral implies conformity to established sanctioned codes or accepted notions of right and wrong <the basic moral values of a community>. ethical may suggest the involvement of more difficult or subtle questions of rightness, fairness, or equity <committed to the highest ethical principles>. ... but i think I agree that in many cases the words are interchangable.

If the co-op supports multiple players on the same system, that's probably better on the console?

Idle Thumbs 25: Pause Theme from Battletoads
Erkki replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I don't really know, but it seems reasonable to assume that a lot of modders have moved to creating indie games. There are now some pretty good open source graphics/physics/etc. engines out there and it's really easier to get started making a game from scratch. And somehow it has become acceptable to do 2D games again. There's one problem still though: C++. Sure it's a great language for some purposes, but I never really got the hang of it even though I consider myself a pretty good programmer. It's just too technical, IMHO, and I hate focusing on the details it forces me to focus on. Even just the notion that your classes are usually split into two separate files (.h and .cpp) is ridiculous to me. Once there are better open source engines written in Scala, Java or maybe some other easier to use but still somewhat performant language, I think we will start seeing even more indie games. http://www.ardor3d.com/ (from the jMonkeyEngine devs) looks promising. -
http://www.scarygirl.com/ Anyone tried it yet? I played the first level and my initial impression is that while the visual style is awesome, the gameplay is somewhat boring.

Hitman: Blood Money (or why Steve Gaynor is nuts)
Erkki replied to bistromathics's topic in Video Gaming
I agree with you, Rusalka. These things could definitely be improved. In my opinion the solution is not adding manpower, but making things more generic and procedural, but that is probably really hard to do and even harder to make it appear more than generic. My experience in game development is only programming really small games as a hobby, so I have no idea how possible that even is while maintaining the production values of AAA games. I think this is easier to solve in an indie game, where you can get away with simpler models and graphics. I would expect that the first game that gives us something like Hitman but with a more robust and flexible system where more options will just work will look more like Gravity Bone than Hitman. I could be wrong of course. -
Hitman: Blood Money (or why Steve Gaynor is nuts)

After completing the game once without paying too much attention how I did it, I've been also trying to remain in the suit in most levels and as ghostly as I can. It was a lot of trouble though, and I didn't complete the game in that mode. So maybe I should relax some constraints I set for myself and play some more. -

It would be nice if the systems were more robust. Another thing is that the adventure-puzzle-style solutions ofter require insanely precise timing, finding which may require a lot of trial and error. For example the same mission you were talking about: Of course I was doing it without a disguise and maybe the adventure style solutions really assume you are disguised. -
Indeed. I only got one yesterday after playing for two hours.

need. more. levels. I've already completed it twice (+some levels more times) and now am going for the remaining achievements.

After playing Penumbra and Dark Corners of the Earth, I want some more survival horror. What would you recommend? Preferably for the PC. I really haven't played much of the genre at all. Alone in the Dark (the first one), Silent Hill (the first one), The Thing, Nocturne. Not sure if they can all be called survival horror. I also liked the scary bits in Stalker. Only played a demo or two from the Resident Evil series. I don't like splatters much, otherwise I was thinking of getting Condemned (our beloved IGN.com thinks it's the scariest game of this generation). I like psychological horror most. You may also recommend horror adventure games.

I just finished BioShock. Played on the easy difficulty because earlier I had found the gameplay not interesting enough to want to be challenged by it and I just wanted to get through it quickly. In the end I ended up exploring almost every corner, picking up and hacking everything and having full health/eve/ammo most of the time. Pretty awesome game! I might even play it again with a harder difficulty. It didn't feel like survival horror at all, though, maybe the difficulty setting also had something to do with it. I'm not sure I want to go back to the dated tech of SS2 now, but maye I will.
