  1. Grand Theft Auto V Announced!

I think the next stop might be UK. Then again, "next stop." is written with a dot, so maybe it's nothing.
  2. Grand Theft Auto V Announced!

Yeah, Vice City is maybe the best GTA game, if you don't take into consideration the tech advances made later. I haven't spent so much time just driving/riding/flying around and listening to the radio in any other GTA game. Maybe San Andreas comes close, but Vice City was more consistently good.
  3. Grand Theft Auto V Announced!

    GTA Connecticut?
  4. There needs to be a song called "The Narrative Bullet"
  5. Creepy statues in games

Heh, I was also looking for that but couldn't find it. Apparently there's a difference between "concept" and "video game thing"...
  6. Creepy statues in games

Oh, and Deus Ex of course, has one of the statuest statues of them all.
  7. Creepy statues in games

I had to re-read your post three times to find the swear words. Can't think of many games... Baldur's Gate (don't know which one)? Oblivion had some, I thought Nocturne had some too, but can't see any on screens. Also, if Gragoyles count you could look at this list: http://www.giantbomb.com/gargoyles/92-2139/ [edit]also, this is a list of statue mimics: http://www.giantbomb.com/statue-mimic/92-3519/
  8. Torchlight?

I played a little bit. Looks pretty fun, but yeah Normal seems too easy in the beginning at least. I have only seen my health bar drop a bit below the maximum once.
  9. Have people seen Machinarium?

Loved it! The music and visuals are just perfect. A bit less standalone puzzles would have been nice, though. And a better ending. The arcade mini-games were quite bothersome until I discovered I could use the keyboard. Used the hints and walkthrough a couple of times. Oh, and I beat the gomoku thing on the first try
  10. Oh man, I just had that instance of a game making me replay a long section. Started Severance: Blade of Darkness and had to restart the first level after getting beaten by what I guess was the final boss of the level. Bloody likely I'm not going to play that again, especially as I'm not sure how to beat said boss. It seems the game doesn't have mid-level saves. [edit] damn, a walkthrough did mention manual saving. I just didn't find the save function
  11. Torchlight?

Why? Is the Steam version crippled somehow (I skimmed this thread again, but couldn't find anything supporting that in previous posts)
  12. http://www.idlethumbs.net/download/song/space-asshole What? Also, sad that you are ending it, but congrats to Nick for his new job!
  13. Risen (Gothic successor)

Finished it. What a crappy ending. And after the credit, a very overt hint at several sequels. Also, the last few hours of the game sucked bad:
  14. I should not have clicked that. The horror http://www.donkdj.com/remix/55243-The-Smiths-How-Soon-Is-Now-donk-remix
  15. Recommendations for non-fantasy Western RPGs

Anachronox is awesome! Torment, Vampire, Arcanum have been lingering in my backlog for years...
  16. Shadow Complex

The paper map is visible here: http://www.destructoid.com/shadow-complex-s-map-began-on-paper-151862.phtml
  17. Risen (Gothic successor)

The combat works for me, it is like it is by design and I think it's slightly better than in Gothic. It may take a while to get used to though, and I completely understand that it's not for everyone. I'm still not able to do counter-parries properly, but I've played for 25-30 hours now and they are not essential.
  18. Risen (Gothic successor)

You are exempt from my hatred. I know what you mean by not getting things right, the same flaws/quirks have perpetuated from Gothic 1 to Risen. At least Risen seems less buggy, though. But yeah, I would like to see them make major improvements to some things. Personally I would like to see even more dynamics, characters moving about more with more complex routines, caravans and patrols, a shorter "open crate" animation, a different premise than being the nameless chosen one* etc. All the games so far have had basically the same formula with minor changes. * I don't know yet if that's the case in Risen, but it seems like it might be.
  19. Risen (Gothic successor)

I'm going to hate all of you if none of you RPG players will buy this because better marketed big publisher AAA titles demand your money. And I already hate you for not playing The Witcher. You don't know what's good for you. Disclaimer: Risen may not be for all tastes.
  20. Brütal Legend overload...!

GUTSS? Hey, it's Oct 13th here. Where's my Brütal Legend??? (actually, I'll probably not play it on day 1, want to finish Risen first)
  21. Brütal Legend overload...!

I have ROFL-ed, but I still don't like the initialism
  22. Another backlog thread

Holy craplog... Not to mention games I have yet to finish that I started a long time ago, these are games that I've bought fairly recently (most in 2009) and have yet to play (a few of them I've started playing, but didn't play very far, a few have never even been installed). Blueberry Garden Aquaria Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition The Path Two Worlds Jagged Alliance 2 King's Bounty Mount & Blade Ceville Commandos 2 Commandos 3 Indiana Jones (both Last Crusade and Atlantis) The Dig Shadowgrounds Stalker: Clear Sky Vampire: The Masquerade Ben There, Dan That! Time Gentlemen, Please! Civilization IV: Complete Edition Why am I doing this. Aargh.. Steam makes it too easy to just buy games. I think I'm going to forget about those that I've already played earlier, such as the LucasArts games, Commandos and just pretend I didn't buy them. Starting with Ceville to clear this list.
  23. ‫‬‭‮‪‫‬‭‮Mirror's Edge

Yeah. In a Gamasutra interview, Rhianna Pratchett said she was brought in late to write the story when the game structure had already been finalized. Nothing really good could have come of that, but I think it still could have been a lot better.
  24. Risen (Gothic successor)

Hey, the combat is not bad at all (if you think the Gothic combat is ok). In the demo it felt bad, but the creatures were using dodge moves, that's why they got around the lock-on. It started making sense when I fought with a human -- he could use all the same moves that I could. And apparently so can all the creatures. I like it. Just made my way into town, trying to do some work for opposing factions without getting too caught up with either before finding out more about them. Risen feels pretty much like a Gothic game so far. Even not a sequel to the last one, but more like a Gothic 1.5 or so. They even have reefers.
  25. Game Train 2009: The Fall

Also Risen Machinarium If they count
