Wow. It was almost a puzzle to figure out which of the 3 "Multiplayer CD Keys" to use to unlock the DLC of the Steam Digital Deluxe versions. The naming of the keys didn't help much.

That QWOP story was the best! -
Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"

Listening now. I wasn't expecting this today, but while waiting for a bus, read from Twitter that the cast was out so I didn't have it downloaded but had to play it over 3G. Made the smelly 50 minute bus ride much better! (our public transportation sucks, not only is it infrequent, but there is usually a smelly bum or two in the bus and the smell will linger long after they've left) I just made it to the second part of the cast so I don't know what the good news is, but I want to say that all the 50+ episodes have been awesome! I actually didn't regularly listen to any podcasts before Thumbs and even now only occasionally listen to other casts. I hope Idle Thumbs will continue in some way, but even if it doesn't it was great that it existed for a year (wow, it doesn't even feel like it's been a year) -
About this character creator. Is it a necessary component or was it only for those who want to do this early? Can I do the same things from within the game?

It's not Baulder's, it's Baldur's for gods sake. I don't even get where that quite common misspelling comes from. * * sorry, I usually avoid nitpicking, but that one really bugs me.

I played the original Way of the Samurai on the PS2. It had great potential but was kind of shitty in some ways. It sounds like they may have realized that greater potential in 3. I should probably check it out. Has anyone played both the original and the new one? How do they compare?

This is pretty old, but I just found it and it seemed funny/disturbing nfsb5HUFMQ0

Haven't read this thread for a while, but I just got the game. It's in some ways better than I expected and in some ways worse. I played about 4 hours and the game already says I've completed 30% Ok, I knew it was short but I already want it to be longer. I love being in that world, but on the other hand many aspects of the game seem shallow, which is not usual for a Schafer game, but understandable I guess, given that the world is rather big and they didn't have GTA budget.

How probable is it to get a complete armor set? I'm on level 22 and so far I've gotten two pieces from the same set and a few from other sets. Maybe only probable with multiple playthroughs? I think I never managed to get a full set in either of the Diablos (only finished the first one)

Gothic 2.5Risen left me a bit unsatisfied: the game started off really good and gave me at least 30 hours of fun, but at one point it just started going downhill towards the ending. So I started Two Worlds (Epic Edition) since I've had it in my backlog for a while. It seems to be a rather low quality mix of Oblivion and Gothic. So far it doesn't appear to be buggy, but has a really really clunky interface and controls, crappy voice acting and loathsome dialogue lines. But one quality it does appear to have is that the world seems big enough that I will never explore it all and find everything, because I'm curious to move on to other places (the map at least makes it seem really big). I actually like that in an RPG, although I plucked Risen clean, probably even picked 90% of the plants. Has anyone played this? Is it worth it to suffer through the crappy parts to get a huge and hopefully somewhat interesting world or two to explore? (I'm also getting Brütal Legend soon, but I won't be able to play it as much as I want since my 360 is connected to a shared TV)
-
Ah, this game will have to wait for slower times, it can't really compete with Torchlight, Gay Tony, Brütal Legend and Dragon Age (hopefully). And I might get Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 2 and whatever else good is coming out after I'm done with those. I'm starting to worry that I spend too much money on games... while another part of me is considering buying a PS3 with Uncharted 2.

You are both wrong

Yeah, the music is excellent. BTW, did we hear a bit of this in Club 41? WNDh_tFIHn4

Man, some of the side quests are long. I only play this in short sessions and when I come back I forget if I'm doing a side quest or the main one.

I may have worded it wrong. I was saying that what I expected happened, but I didn't like HOW that happened.

This is one of the best episodes yet. But I think the ending was a bit unclimatic (no pun intended).

Happy Birthday, video games!

The Idle Thumbs Downloadable Content Thread

Patters666 made one too http://twitter.com/Patters666/idle-thumbs -
It's damn hard to pick THE best/favourite, so I'm going to pick two for each category -- not that that's much easier -- and you can toss a coin and imagine I picked just one. Favourite: Grim Fandango / Outcast Best: Half-Life 2 / Outcast Desert Island: Morrowind (with the construction kit) / Baldur's Gate 2 (with the expansion)

I think Space Asshole is the best, and also it kind of works without getting the references so it maybe listenable for a wider audience. A co-worker of mine liked it and even put Space Asshole as his Skype status (but actually he's a gamer too).

Chris, you mentioned that the "endless descent" from Diablo and Torchlight hasn't been done a lot. You might be right, I thought some Diablo clones did that, but I can't think of any? I've only played a few of them, though. But aren't all roguelikes basically that? Also, Ultima Underworld basically was a descent, except it also had you coming back up a lot, and of course it was an RPG. Maybe Arx Fatalis was, too, can't remember. Anyway, two old games like that that are rather crappy in hindsight -- and I wouldn't actually recommend them -- but I played them A LOT and enjoyed at the time when I didn't have access to a lot of games were Mordor* and Mordor II: Darkness Awakening, the latter of which was renamed to Infinite Worlds and then later renamed to Demise: Rise of the Ku'tan and released under that title, I think. It was even more literally just an endless descent than Diablo was. There was basically no story whatsoever, you were just raising your stats to be able to descend lower and lower, and going back to town to rest, sell etc. I can't even remember if Mordor 1 had any quests. I think I put 150-200 hours into that game and while I did reach the last level, I think the game stopped working for me after reinstalling Windows 3.1 or something. * nothing to do with Lord of the Rings beside the name (and it had Mithril)

Amazing game. I've completed 4 levels now and some side quests. Collecting all that loot is fun. I tried turning off the music like Chris suggested and indeed the ambient sound is quite good.

I also won't be able to come
