  1. Open Pandora finally here?

Hmm... when the "Pandora for End Users" page starts with I am suddenly doubtful of how much they focus on usability. Any info about the games? Or is it assumed that people will just install semi-legal(?) emulators on it.
  2. THUMBS!

And you didn't even have to change your sig to "Will work for thumbs"
  3. Far Cry 2

In my current game, Josip is standing near a crashed plane in the north, ignoring me if I walk up to him. I hit him with a knife, then gave him morphine and my history with him was increased.
  4. goty.cx 2009?

Oh yeah, Trials HD. How could I forget that. There were loads of games this year that were great and I should honorably mention besides the ones I already did: Trials HD, Trine, Far Cry 2, GTA: The Lost and Damned, Canabalt, Far Cry 2, Plants vs. Zombies, Words with Friends, ...

What's your username? Mine is T4ffer
  6. Far Cry 2

He did make almost to the end. I read a little of it, then skipped to the end. It's not that well written.
  7. The url is pointing here: http://www.idlethumbs.net/images/thumbsup.gif But the images are here: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
  8. I'm tempted to write a greasemonkey script to fix the thumb icons :(
  9. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Actually, from that interview I linked to: So seems like there's not need to worry that it will be a very action-oriented game. Also, a video: YwO533cANKg

I'm not sure but perhaps the game checks against this thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_Tournament_and_Club_Word_List
  11. Trine

I do think there was progression in difficulty. The traps got gradually deadlier and the number of enemies increased. Everything else you said is right, but none of that bothered me.

Wow. Drop7 is awesome! I saw everyone saying it was good, but didn't believe when I looked at the screenshots. I finally decided to buy it anyway and it's good!
  13. Far Cry 2

    I'm playing the PC version.
  14. I see Saut was added. I found that game really frustrating. The most I could do was clear 3 holes, and that was just beginners luck, after that I tried 20 or so times and could only clear 1 or 2.
  15. Far Cry 2

Man, I still hate those respawning checkpoints. Even if I think they are generally justified and/or fit with the rest of the game, the particular implementation/respawn rate is ridiculous. Clearing a checkpoint, then driving 400-500 meters in one direction, then returning and finding it fully staffed again and the enemies on their patrols/positions after just a minute is passed... not cool.
  16. Red Dead Redemption

WHAT? Is that like a scripted lose situation? Yay for narrative in racing games!
  17. iPhoning it in

I would recommend: Words with Friends, Edge, MiniGore, Canabalt, Zen Bound, Space Invaders: Infinity Gene, Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, Beneath a Steel Sky (although you can get that for free for PC). 18. Red Dead Redemption

So We're finally getting Grand Theft Horse? If so, that's really cool. How was the previous Read Dead R* game?
  19. Space Asshole reminds me of Spider Solitaire 'cause that's what I play during listening to Idle Thumbs usually. I can't listen to that song without playing Spider Solitaire!
  20. Far Cry 2

This game is just as awesome on the second playthrough (at least so far). I can't wait for Far Cry 3 though, if Clint Hocking and his team are making it (is he?), whatever the setting will be that time. I hope the next game will add more variance, like people who wont shoot you on sight and more kinds of missions.
  21. Far Cry 2

Notice I said replay (Far Cry 2, not the others) so it already did blow me a way. I started both Vampire and Far Cry 2, but I've been playing a lot more of Far Cry 2. This time I'll try to do as many of the side missions as possible and diamond hunting before I hit the main missions. And actually I found the first Stalker to be awesome.
  22. PS. I now also read Click Nothing's 'On Authorship in Games' and that seems even more relevant to this discussion. I particularly like this part:
  23. That last post made me understood your point better. Perhaps we think differently about what it means for a work to talk. My interpretation of what you are saying is that if the game talks to the player (in the sense of talk that you defined above), it ceases to be a game or the thing that talks inside the game could just as well be separate from the game. I just read the 'On Auteurship in Games' post by Clint Hocking, he is saying that auteurship and art in games are different things and that in games the art can be player expression. But I think that even by just creating the space where the player can express themselves and settings its limitations the game's creator(s) can be saying something, even though more indirectly and it might be something that even doesn't become apparent depending on how the game is played. In that case it may not be the most important intent of the game, or maybe the author(s) have several layers of intents. Like a children's book may be saying one thing to kids but something different to adults. And I still think Passage at least is an example of that. [edit]After rereading your last post, it seems I don't make the same distinction between 'talking' and 'implying'. So maybe we don't actually disagree that much. Personally, I'm not sure I find that distinction important. Maybe I should.
  24. I'm sorry, but that's not a valid point. In no other medium will everyone who consumes it get the exact same thing out of a work.
