I don't remember any starts at all from this game. Were they in the PC version only?
-
I finished my second playthrough of Far Cry 2 and started playing this. Really brilliant execution! It's better than I expected so far, even after all the (nearly?) unanimous praise.

I found all the diamonds, scouted all the guard posts and what did I get for that? Nothing. Not even a jacuzzi for my safe-house. Actually, hunting diamonds and exploring is my favourite part of the game so I did enjoy doing that. But some kind of reward would have been nice.

I tried some of those episodes listed, they work for me too.

Oh man, I just took out a rocket flying towards me with the dart gun. And it killed the guy who shot it.
-
All the golden guns I'm finding are the AK-47s (or whatever automatic rifle, I can't tell the difference between guns), are there supposed to be any others? I think I happened on a bug because the last 6 Jackal tapes I've found are all about the 12 year old kid with the shotgun who looks old and tired.

Oh, didn't realize you get the rewind ability in TT. Well, that makes it a little better. Oh, it doesn't normally function as a regular gamepad? That's quite strange. I'm sure someone has hacked a driver for it, though.

Well, it seemed stupid to me that the early displays of the game made it seem like Da Vinci is an assassin's personal weaponsmith.
-
I think it does (even the tutorial text mentioned analogue sticks while I played with mouse/kbd) I don't really want to buy a new controller or adapter for this, though.

So I picked up Two Thrones from the Steam sale and started playing it. I haven't gotten very far yet, but first impression: The overall direction is indeed better than Warrior Within, and turn back towards Sands of Time. However, I'm quite surprised to find that the game seems to not have aged well at all. Either there are technical glitches that appear on my PC or the controls just aren't that good -- mouselook especially, no matter which way I slide the mouse speed slider, it just feels wrong and jerky. The sound design seems awful and the voices sound average. I should play Sands of Time some to see if I have the same issue with that one now or if it's just TT. From what I've played so far (just a couple of hours), I enjoyed the latest Prince of Persia (2008) a whole lot more. The movement was fluid and I didn't really find it bothersome that it sometimes felt automatic. The instant restore was also arguably better than what TT has: either - similar instant restore, but between death and restart, there's 1) a boring animation 2) a Retry/Quit prompt 3) a load screen I see the way Elika saves you as a huge improvement over that. - same thing, but some way back and you'll have to complete that sequence you just completed again to possibly die again attempting the thing you failed at.

Is the da Vinci stuff as bad as it seemed from the trailers and previews?

I got a very basic and half-complete prototype of thread viewing, replying and editing implemented but now it'll be a while before I have something usable as I'll have to spend some time on some of the more complex technical parts. Once I got something up (have to look for a cheapish Java hosting provider) I'll post a new thread and ask if any of you want to try it out and give feedback.

Wuxtry, wuxtry! Breaking news: Jake Rodkin is currently playing a video game (Team Fortress 2). Source: Steam

I'm listening to this awesome game soundtrack: http://sidhe.bandcamp.com/ Don't know anything about the game, the soundtrack got an award @ GiantBomb.

I played through the medium levels. There are actually more levels than I expected.

That's it. I'm never buying a game on release date again. PS. There already were not one but two threads about this

Yeah, there is the danger of it becoming too much like a chat, but I think if the messages will be displayed traditionally like forums usually do, it won't feel like chat.
-
But that would be annoying if you are reading the previous post (the replying would happen on the same page so the previous post would be visible right above the reply editor). Also I'm thinking of adding a notification on a different layer just above the browser status bar that tells you that new messages have arrived at the bottom of the page. Or something like that.
-
Would it be annoying if new messages posted by others popped up at the bottom of the page even as you are replying? (of course it wouldn't automatically scroll to those, so you probably wouldn't see them unless you scroll down yourself.

Oh, yeah, this too, since people have been saying it wasn't bad: Prince of Persia The Two Thrones™ 4,99€
-
Damn, you Steam, you made me buy games I already have (or had): Beyond Good and Evil™ 2,49€ Prince of Persia®: The Sands of Time 4,99€ Red Faction Guerrilla 24,99€ Mirror's Edge™ 3,74€ Braid 2,24€ Osmos 3,49€ I currently have none of them on the PC though. Might want to replay for this cheap, I don't play that much on the consoles at the moment.

Was just browsing Steam and noticed something: FUEL, GRID, DIRT are all by Codemasters (didn't know this). What's their next game, ROAD? Edit. Btw, is the Steam store really unstable for anyone else? If I use it not in an external browser, but inside Steam, it crashes all the time.

Yay. Just got that working in a very very basic way. I'm trying these things out using the somewhat awesome but horribly messy Lift framework. I'm not sure if I'll use that in the end. But it has jQuery and Comet (aka "reverse ajax") stuff built in, and Actor-based messaging on the backend, which lets you do this continuous loading practically in real time (as soon as someone posts a message to a thread, the people watching the thread will see it).
