  1. Metro 2033?

I was able to play a little bit despite super low frame rate during fights, and it seems the game is very very linear, with cinematic sequences taking you from one short linear level to the next. I wasn't expecting that, but I guess I should have read more about the game before buying it.
  2. Should I do it?

So, I tried to continue developing it, but have spent the last two hours getting everything to compile. Since I was using snapshots of Scala, Lift etc., and Maven updates those pretty much automatically, everything broke (exaggeration). Yeah, Scala's backwards incompatibility problems are infamous. Anyway, maybe I'll get it working and add a couple of features tomorrow.
  3. Red Dead Redemption

Yep, from what they've shown so far, it looks like all my dreams of GTH are coming true. It sounds too good, actually.
  4. Metro 2033?

Sorry to hear it destroyed your computer. It doesn't run acceptably on mine even in 800x600 (and screwed up my desktop icon placement after I switched to that reso).
  5. Red Dead Redemption

    I'd prefer a DeLorean
  6. Metro 2033?

    That's me.
  7. Twitter clients

What twitter clients do you use? I actually like using the web UI, but I'm missing just two things that lately have started to annoy me: * no bookmarks * a two-tiered list of people I follow. I ended up following too many people to keep up with my twitter feed all the time, so I had to remove some that talked too much (but occasionally I'd like to see what they say or in response to what without having to navigate the maze of twitter). Are any of the desktop clients good for that? A bonus feature would be syncing my work & home PC's settings/bookmarks.
  8. Metro 2033?

I still can't play it. Will unlock in 3+ days. The list of locations where it is already available seems rather arbitrary: Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Macau, and India, North America. I do not get this at all.
  9. Cave Story

    However, the producer does not.
  10. Heavy Rain

What, I pressed X for ~230 times but still didn't save him.
  11. Noooo! Stalker, you can't take Far Cry 2's place. Wait, actually you can. Go ahead. Since I recently completed it, I've been unable to play any other games (except on iPhone). They just won't compare. I'm waiting for Metro 2033, hoping that might. Great cast BTW!
  12. I thought it might be good to do a thread like the Fresh Indie Game Compendium, but for upcoming indie games (judging by the number of IGF entries, there are maybe more than ever of them), and slightly less formal with discussions between the entries. So you can let other Thumbs know about games that could be something to be excited about, but you don't want to start a whole new thread for it. Sword & Sworcery EP By: Superbrothers, Jim Guthrie, Capy Platform: iPhone / iPod Touch Synopsis: a fresh approach to adventure & action designed for Apple's touchtronic machinery; a 21st century update to the pioneering works of Miyamoto, Mechner & Chahi; etc. (according to the game's website) More: http://www.swordandsworcery.com/ I'm really digging the art style, and the game world looks interesting.
  13. Twitter clients

Doh. I forgot the lists feature existed.
  14. Ubisoft DRM

I think I'm just not going to play Assassin's Creed 2 or whatever future games where they have the same DRM.
  15. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

There definitely is structure here. I played the original when it came out so I don't remember how different or more/less complex the systems were, but in Call of Pripyat 1) you always have a goal, the "main quest" goals are in different color and usually shown on the map 2) it's structured into 3 main areas. You can complete most of one, then move onto the next one and so on. You will have to go back only a couple of times, I think. 3) you could play on easy in which case you could probably ignore some of the complexities (I'm guessing) I did a lot of the side quests too, but I think you could just follow the main story structure if you want to. I think there may be a few instances where you have to talk to a specific NPC to proceed, but the game doesn't tell you that, but those NPCs are usually in the hubs of the respective areas and easily found (and even marked with a special icon on the map).
  16. Just Cause 2

    Dammit
  17. EA Presents

Sorry, off topic: EA Partners Presents: Shank vs. DeathSpank
  18. Sleep Is Death

    Yeah, same here.
  19. Infinity Ward - MW2 news

Man, that is some serious shit. Btw there was no link here, the articles 31. and 32. Forbin mentioned can be read here: http://kotaku.com/5485703/ousted-infinity-ward-founders-lawsuit-against-activision-the-court-documents/
  20. Did I hear right that Steve spoiled Heavy Rains ending? Or was it a joke?
  21. An emission happened for me too in that measurements-taking mission. Only, the guy wasn't able to complete his work before it hit and I had waited too long to run for cover, so I took my last anabiotic pill. When I woke up, he was still there taking his measurements. It seems the game doesn't kill NPC's when they are out during an emission, at least not mission-related NPC's.
  22. EA Presents

Activision Presents: Modern WarCraft Hero 6: Dial D-I-A-B-L-O to Call Duty
  23. Infinity Ward - MW2 news

StarCraft Hero: The World Calls for Duty
  24. Heavy Rain

Whatever you think of David Cage, he did make Omikron (credited as Director and Cameras, lol) Thanks RPS for reminding me.
  25. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

Looks Mysty. Don't know if that's good or bad. I still haven't played any of the Myst games (well I once started but by then the graphics looked outdated).
