I'm playing pretty much like a big publisher, cranking out sequels in only the most popular genres.

You don't need the south/west rule, but of course without it the tracks might have to be more complex.

Hmm... I admit of knowing almost nothing about Minecraft servers so I have no idea what exactly we can bring over or how. But I dug around a bit and found this quote from reddit: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1733157 I don't know what that means exactly for randomness but from that it sounds like the straight walls are some kind of glitches, not a feature of the algorithm when you move in strange patterns.

If the world is generated from a seed value, not completely randomly, then it does exist.

I became addicted immediately. Downloaded it before I went to sleep at 1A.M. then was in "just one more game" mode until 6 A.M. Crazy. I'm scared of touching it again. I'm sure it'll become boring at some point, though. It has a strange pace. The normal speed is just enough to make decisions and carrying out actions during development, but then you have to occasionally wait stupid amounts of time to see points being increased, turning each "just one more game" into another 15 minutes. After a start with 1 PC game and then about 20 console games, Zero Inc. is pleased that a new PC game is selling almost as well as Super IES games, even with the 1-2% of PC market share. The PlayStatus has been out for a while now and I've made enough to buy a license and develop a not too cheap game for it. Still only dreaming of a Game-Box license. PS. There's one thing I don't get about designers, writers, sound engineers: they complain if I give them important jobs a lot. "Me doing graphics again? Not sure I'll be able to give my 100%". Hmm... ok, I'll let the sound guy do the graphics next time then.

I think that's a pretty good observation and seems to be opposite of what Eskil is saying about adding stuff to Love. But maybe Love is just a lot more complicated than Minecraft.

Straight up (45 degrees?) or one level up after every two blocks? (22,5 degrees I guess) I also managed to get pretty high and far but by putting another small booster midway up a mountainside. I think I'm not going to muck about with complex stuff like minecart boosters or redstone logic gates any more, though. At least not before they become available as single craftable blocks. It's just too much messing about getting all the blocks right.

I experimented with this automated station thing. It's quite hard to get right if you make any modifications to the designs in those videos. The booster part pretty much has to be that long, otherwise the cart will slow down really quickly as it gets to the station. Also, the turns are hard to get right if you have a somewhat different layout in mind. Sometimes an inperfect track switch seems to slow down the cart as well. [edit] Yay! managed to build a station with the empty-cart-returns feature, but it took 3 boosters to compensate for speed loss in turns.

I think it's a bug, though not sure. Somewhy the minecarts push each other when they touch like that. That design is neat though, I tried to do a booster track with a powered cart in an infinite loop, but it required ridiculously precise timing to work. This works much better.

I think I spotted the First Church of Thumb on the internet: http://irrationalgames.com/insider/ten-things-our-favorite-pc-games/

This should go into the standard Unicode smilies (sic!) as: 1F611 SMILING FACE OF A TRADEMARK TROLL WHO IS AS OF YET OBLIVIOUS OF THE SHIT HE IS ABOUT TO PULL DOWN ON HIMSELF [edit]

I'm probably one of the farthest from any US server and I get ~157 ping there so it's probably good enough. ~80 for the German one BTW.

7? I'm still on my first.

I tried it but there was no one else there now. But... SNOW!? I didn't know there was snow & ice in Minecraft.

Found a really cool cave system in single player. It looks different from the ones I've found before. Almost as if someone has already been digging there and used it as home. This game has truly amazing generation algorithms.

I haven't read this thread for a while. Been very busy with a project at work. But that work has ended (more or less*). I'm both sad and happy. I posted about a potential new job and a tough decision in Spring. I decided to finish the project at my current employer then. But the offer for the new job was extend until this fall and I'm making that change, today was my last day at Helmes (one of the two largest software development companies in Estonia) and the week after next I'll start a new job at a start-up(-ish) that develops a product that is well-known in the Java community around the world. It won't be as important a position as it would have been in spring but I'm still pretty excited and a bit scared of working in a place where I suspect everyone else is smarter than me. * the project went a bit over the deadline of Sept 30 but will go live in a month or so. I will still be helping to some extent. If the launch goes well, I'll be proud but if it flops I can pretend I had nothing to do with it. HAHA .

Shadow and Calluses?

Ken Levine totally ruined that podcast. I think at one point Chris asked Kieron a question and instead of letting him answer, Levine spoke for 2-3 minutes about something vaguely related. And the answer was missed. (or maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention, I had it playing in the background while I did something else)

I wish doors would let water through when open, then we could make an automated obsidian factory (well the digging would still be manual of course)

Thanks guys! I wish you would spell my name correctly though (but I guess it's ok because the first post in this thread also spelled it wrong)

"Actually difficult [monsters] this time!" What? I'm already dying ridiculously easily whenever I fight monsters. The other changes sound good though.

I will remix everything. EVERYTHING!!!

Man, Feargus Urquhart doesn't even sound close to what I always imagined he would sound like. -
I don't think there are moving things beyond boats and minecarts.
