  1. Portal 2

I preloaded and then checked the release date. While I've been able to blissfully ignore most things Portal 2-related before, now I've made myself wait for 6 days
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

Meh... I don't really care to read the comics. It would probably be like playing a Harry Potter video game just for the license.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

I finally watched Firefly. Am I now an official citizen of the Internet? Watched it over a couple of nights when I couldn't sleep because of this everlasting jetlag. I really loved it and already miss it. Maybe I'll watch it again. So sad that they cancelled it, but at least there's Serenity which sums up some of the loose ends. Is there anything similar to Firefly? Not necessarily sci-fi, I liked it most because of the characters and their interactions.
  4. Books, books, books...

Don't remember that much about Bast, I always forget details soon after reading. I also enjoyed Name of the Wind quite a bit. Other recent fantasy stuff I've liked is The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, or at least the first two books (The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged). I was lucky picking both that series and Name of the Wind from bookstores, as they were good, but I almost never finish mediocre* novels so I have a hard time finding new stuff to read just by browsing bookstores. There used to be a great local review site, but new books just don't get added to it often nowadays and people can't submit reviews I guess I should read this thread more Also, I've read 20 books from that cloud, guess I should read more. Second the notion that Monte Cristo should be on that list. * what I personally consider mediocre
  5. Steam client vulnerability released

But that's exactly what I'm saying. You think he is lying because Valve has been responsive previously (in some cases, maybe the cases where they haven't been are not well documented). I'd rather believe him until proven otherwise. Companies are made of people and they make mistakes. I can imagine tens of scenarios/reasons why they may not have responded to him.
  6. It came from the future of games!

Heh. I was actually in Milpitas two weeks ago. Bad timing. On my first trip to the US I stayed in Milpitas of all places. Still haven't gotten over the jetlag
  7. Steam client vulnerability released

And your only basis for that is that you want to believe because Valve is otherwise a good company. Sorry, I think they are awesome as well, that doesn't mean they don't make mistakes.
  8. Portal 2

I accidentally bought it on Steam, forgot there was that PS3+PC bundle But I probably wouldn't play on PS3 anyway.
  9. King's Bounty

Didn't see a thread for this. Finally started playing it last night, been enjoying it so far. The autosave could be more frequent though. I entered a battle where I had no way of knowing what was waiting for me and losing it had a result of game over Now I have to do the last 40 minutes all over again. I hope this doesn't mean I'll never play it again.
  10. King's Bounty

So, I finished the Armored Princess/Crossworlds main campaign as well. They've improved on the original in some aspects, and there are some interesting maps (lizard world). Also, playing as a Paladin was much better than straight Warrior. Scarily, I've now spent 160 hours playing King's Bounty games.
  11. Steam client vulnerability released

This is a pretty fundamental flaw. It's strange that it's been unnoticed for years.
  12. Portal 2

lalalala I can't hear you (trying to avoid portal 2 spoilers)
  13. Non-video games

I really enjoyed my first game. Perhaps one of the best board game experiences I've had (but that's not saying much as I only recently started playing them). I played as an investigator, and I suspect it's best to play all the scenarios as an investigator before playing as Keeper. The keeper had only played the game a couple of times before and I guess his relative lack of experience allowed us to win a variation of the first story rather easily. He kept spending all the threat as he got it, should have hoarded it more. We were also quite lucky. I have doubts about the replayability, but then again I play these kind of games seldom enough that it's not a problem for me. But I guess the game really is made for expansions. On the other hand we had some laughs and cool moments that were more like emergent player-generated story (sorry, there's probably a word for that but it escapes me ATM) like you'd see in Far Cry 2. And stuff like that can make this a lot more replayable, I think. Some fun moments were provided by this cane-using old professor character being constantly harrassed by the Keeper. He lost 4 of his fingers to Zombies according to the Keeper's narration and later somehow managed to climb the banister in the lobby. An interesting factoid I discovered by reading some forums is that MoM was inspired by Arkham Investigations, which is a fan-made add-on to Arkham Horror.
  14. The Witcher 2

Man, I love these new screens: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/05/the-witcher-2-system-specs-fancy-screens/ They actually use colors!
  15. GIRP, from the creator of QWOP

Yeah, I do a lot of practice swings before a jump to ensure it's going to go well. Get into a rhythm and then let go. Hmm... I wonder if I should give QWOP a try now. Last time I did, I couldn't get going at all.
  16. Private messages

Considering today's relatively cheap hard drive space, I vote to increase the PM limit from 100 to 200 (or more). Mine is almost full and I don't really want to delete the old ones.
  17. GIRP, from the creator of QWOP

    A winner is I! I beat it.
  18. GIRP, from the creator of QWOP

Almost made it to the end of the first level. 71 meters. I tried to jump a longish gap just before the end and fell
  19. GIRP, from the creator of QWOP

Man, I finally figured out swinging and made it to 63 meters, then thought it was a dead end and climbed quite a way down to take the other route. Made it to 65 meters and then accidentally let go of the wrong key How high is level 2?
  20. iPhone/iTouch gaming

Sworcery looks nice so far. The Eurogamer review someone linked to on Twitter [edit: linky] wasn't very encouraging, but I got it anyway. But considering the review, better not to give the game your twitter credentials. I've played for 15 minutes so far, so too early to tell if it's good.
  21. Non-video games

Just got Mansions of Madness delivered to me. Unfortunately, at the moment I'm enjoying the worst headache ever instead of the game. Will be in Santa Clara for EclipseCon for the next week, so it'll be more than a week before I can play it.
  22. Non-video games

I answered that it gets sucked away, but was suspecting I was wrong so I looked it up. Actually in the main rules it stays. But one of the house rules recommended by the designer say it gets sucked away. PS. besides the PDF link posted before, here are all the links to rules, faq, house rules etc. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=6&esem=4
  23. Non-video games

I haven't played a lot -- only two games, and months ago -- so my answers are from memory. No. I think it was mentioned in the rules that they get sucked away anyway? Yes. They will patrol in the sky until they see someone, I guess. I don't think so.
  24. V The Elder Scrolls

Bah. I'm not impressed until we see snow chemistry simulation and each snowflake is globally unique
