  1. The Witcher 2

Apparently you have to run the game once first and then it puts the key in windows registry and it will probably be auto-filled when trying to register. Can't try it yet.
  2. The Witcher 2

I put it on Ultra and it runs fine so far (I played 15 minutes and just entered the siege tower) But yeah, this widescreen business is not cool. I have the same size monitor as you. Hmm... Maybe I'll sneak my second work monitor home. I don't use it all that much.
  3. The Witcher 2

Is it just me or does the digital (Steam) version have no CD Key? i.e. I can't activate it and download the DLC?
  4. The Witcher

Wait a minute... I just remembered I can play the additional stories included in Witcher 1.5 while I wait for the Steamfuckerunbusybecomer
  5. The Witcher 2

I'm getting really annoyed at Steam now. Some pirates have probably finished the game by now, and I still can't START downloading. Can you get refunds on Steam? I'm thinking of getting a physical copy instead.
  6. The Witcher 2

Hmm... ok came home for a late lunch to try to start the download again. The servers don't seem to be that swamped looking at the charts, how come it's says they are too busy: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/ [edit] Anyway, this seems kind of stupid. Regretting not getting it from GOG/physical. Why doesn't it just queue my request and try automatically later? I understand there may be some interactivity required in the process but I already accepted the EULA (and again on each attempt).
  7. The Witcher 2

You bastard. 1st I slept in and now the Steam servers are too busy to handle my kind request.
  8. L.A. Noire

Eurogamer thinks it's good. Is it out for PS3? Is there a PC version coming? I haven't payed much attention to it.
  9. The Witcher 2

It would be like a text adventure game! But with modern 3D graphics! And human-like AI! BTW. If anyone watched the new [chris remo voice]five[/chris remo voice] launch trailers today, I'm kind of worried that this is going to be a lot more 'epic' than Witcher 1. What I liked a lot about The Witcher was that it didn't feel epic at all, except maybe once you get to Old Vizima. But with these huge battles that you actually take part in... is Geralt going to fight humans or monster mostly? And I even would have preferred if the original game had less monsters, but tougher ones. If the world has so many monsters, how come there aren't a gazillion witchers for hire in each city, only Geralt. The Drowners got annoying after The Tower in each playthrough and the repellents sometimes hindered rather than helped.
  10. The Witcher

Finished it just in time. Again I forgot the trick to the final fight and stupidly wasted time trying to [edit] Looks like Witcher 2 will unlock just a bit too late for me to start the download in the morning... I must pretend to sleep in, or have lunch at home.
  11. The Witcher 2

I'm getting a bit scared of no pre-loading on Steam. What if the servers can't handle the pressure of everybody downloading what is probably 10+ GB of game on release day? What will I do then? I would go crazy.
  12. The Witcher

Oh, I never noticed that. Ok, in that case I get why people call it collecting and I guess it makes it slightly more dumb.
  13. The Witcher

You know what, I still don't get it why people consider this to be such a big thing to overshadow the rest of the game. Firstly, it's not really collecting. You don't get to keep those cards, you only see them once. Secondly, it's optional and you'll have to go out of your way to 'get' some of them. Admittedly, a few are on the main quest path though. Thirdly, only a couple of them are actually naked that I've seen. Ok, it's dumb, but jeez... it's a really small thing in the game and not some central concept that the rest of the game revolves around.
  14. The Witcher

I really don't like how the If Witcher 2 will take this choice from my save game into account, I'll probably not want to use my save. Is it too much to hope they will allow me to remake Witcher 1 choices at game startup?
  15. The Witcher 2

Oh, yeah, the inventory UI kind of sucked. And I guess there are some other details that I didn't like (the skill tree if not meditating didn't give enough info etc.) I liked the Journal a lot though, but I guess that could have been better too, with links between entries. What? Without opening the UI? I've played through it almost 3 times and still didn't know. Aaargh.
  16. The Witcher 2

Like what? I've heard other people complain about it, but nothing specific. I kind of liked it.
  17. The Witcher

Made it to the chapter where you get back to Vizima. Might even finish it before 2 comes out. I'm pretty sure I'm playing on hard, but the game started getting kind of easy even before the previous chapter. Maybe my player skills have gotten better or I picked better character skills this time... And maybe I'll eat my words since this time I made more enemies than in earlier playthroughs.
  18. The Witcher 2

How much have you played? Very similarly to Orvidos, I found the combat very odd at first, and it contributed to me stopping playing for a while without completing Kaer Morhen. Later I came back and loved it (after getting out of Kaer Morhen). So the combat was fine in my opinion, but I'm also not saying they shouldn't change it -- there may be better ways to do it. What eventually really starts irking me about Witcher 1 every time I play is the small little pauses you have to endure everywhere: pause before speaking as the screen goes into dialog mode if dialog threw you out, pause till the NPC finish their often long animation until you can speak again pause after fighting ends before you can pick up stuff/interact pause after fistfights the slow running from A to B when you are in a peaceful area (but more fast-travel would probably have lessened the atmosphere) maybe a few others (and in the original unpatched game... the horrid 2 minute load times, but with the patched version they are 1-10 seconds) I hope this was due to the Aurora engine and will be gone from Witcher 2.
  19. PSN Hack

Well, it is somewhat understandable though that if their security sucked, it would take a while to develop/deploy/test the security improvements, as Kazuo Hirai also noted in that video.
  20. The Witcher

I accidentally found mention of some The Witcher mods somewhere. Anyone tried them? Too late for me now as I'm in the middle of the game, but if I ever want to replay it again I may try the Full Combat Replacement and Alchemy mods, which make the game even harder but more interesting. Currently I'm getting to the point where I have my inventory full of potions and other buffs.
  21. PSN Hack

Yeah, really surprised that it is still down. Updating games works though.
  22. The Witcher

Looky, they updated the website and made it easier to find downloads for the patches for Witcher 1 (seems still in progress though as there's nothing but download links for W1). --- I just got my alchemy bags filled with stuff and started selling some of that off. I didn't find mention of this in the wiki, but is there any difference of potion quality between the ingredients? Some of them are expensive and sell for a lot, while some are cheap but actually seem better because they contain additional substances. If I want to make money I should actually probably sell the most expensive ones and use the cheapest ones for potions if there's no difference.
  23. The Witcher

Oh, another tip if you haven't made it into Vizima: don't do things out of sequence too much. If the game hints that you should go somewhere specific when you enter the Vizima streets for the first time, just go there. I did that before, but this time I ignored the suggestion and some quests started having strange dialogs and at least one broke. On the other hand, when you get to the swamps for the first time, it's probably smart to tell someone to piss off (at least save after entering the swamps). I'm actually noticing for the first time all the little changes when you decide something differently, as it's the first time I'm replaying with mostly different choices. And this playthrough confirmed to me that there are probably very few 'wrong' choices in Witcher. They just have different results, one result doesn't feel much better than the other -- and I mean better in the sense that one would give better content, not the good/evil thing.
  24. Deus Ex 3

    I don't know, I spill my drink.
  25. The Witcher

play on Hard difficulty, it'll be more interesting and actually require the use of potions (or m4d c0m6at skillz). In the lower difficulties you can get by with less alchemy. Of course, that may be how you want it. Don't trust the A tiny bit better maybe. But I had no real problem with it so I'm not sure.
