Ok by me, but I'd prioritize people on the forums if someone here also wants them. PM me what games he wants (i've crossed out the ones already taken). I haven't checked the actual shipping costs yet but at the moment I'm assuming I can cover them myself.

Also, it just struck me that if I want to play more adventure games, I should try the Blackwell games. Right? And I still haven't started playing Shivah or completed Ben There, Dan That.

A new trailer fn0N294NFy0 Sounds like there's a war between Skyrim and The Empire or something like that in addition to the dragon problem.

Is it just me or do these "industry experts" discussing the GTA V trailer seem full of shit and/or air to you as well? http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/bonusround/510?ch=1

Ok, sorry Thompson, looks like I can't send Batman to you (or to anyone else). Hmm... what about Red Dead / GTA IV, could those copies be tied to Rockstar Social Club somehow? I don't remember if I even went there... About the Wii games, sorry, I decided to keep them -- I thought my Wii's optical drive was busted, but it turns out just a couple of games' disks might be scratched or something, because it worked with another game. I'll only offer Simpsons: The Game.

Send me a PM with your address BTW. I actually didn't think of this at first, but does anyone know if there are any problems with giving away used PC games? I think it's ok on consoles, but for example Batman Arkham City is a Games for Windows Live game, and I vaguely remember possibly entering the serial key somewhere. Will there be no problems to either party if someone else uses that same serial key later?

I suspected my list was rather boring in the sense that there aren't really rare/new games that someone who would want already doesn't have. Added AssCreed BroHood and Heavy Rain Added Xbox games (pathetic list really, but I don't play that much on consoles and then downloadables more than others).

Actually, you know what. For years I hoped for Grand Theft Horse and it finally happened in the form of RDR, and was good. And what I'd like to see next done as a GTA style open world (or GTA style world mixed with deeper RPG elements)? 17th century Europe. Or actually anything between renaissance and the industrial revolution. I think that period is not really explored in games -- it's usually either middle ages or modern times. So I hope after GTA V we will see Grand Don Quixote! Or at least Grand Three Musketeers. Yeah, lets drop the Theft part.

Yeah, on the other hand I might decide not to watch it to leave more things for surprise. I haven't learned a lot about it either, except this thread and watching that video with Todd Howard and reading what some guy ate in it.

To not spam the Life thread more with iTunes etc., I made a new thread. What does everyone use for playing music on their computer? I used to use iTunes in Windows (and still do on Mac), but switched to Songbird some time ago. I like the music library interface in Songbird more, but the playlists are sometimes buggy and it doesn't seem to receive updates/fixes often (unless it does that silently -- it hasn't suggested an update for months and months if I remember correctly). On Ubuntu I really like Banshee (I think that's what the default app is called), better than Songbird anyway.

I'm probably not playing it again, though. I might go and replay a specific chapter though (does that also unlock after first playthrough?). I'll probably pick up Uncharted 3 some day soon.
-
I might watch it too. With Christmas coming up, there'll be some Steam sales, and maybe Skyrim will be cheaper too, so I might wait for then before I get it.
-
Does that unlock after the first playthrough? And you don't need to find ammo for it?
-
Finished it. The final chapters were too combat-focused -- no time to admire the nice views -- and I actually liked the game more up to that Tibetan village. But still, this game is pretty amazing for such a linear experience.

This made me think of 'Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote'. One of my favourite short stories. Now, what would be interesting would be someone doing 'John Smith, Creator of Minecraft' in video form.

Ah. I was so emotionally destabilized by the game that I forgot the link. And while I'm here again I'll add a Desura link, much easier to buy there (and try the 1 hour demo first). I've been really surprised lately that Desura might be as good as Steam (haven't explored it that much yet, but I've bought two games there and installed a couple of mods). It's like the Steam for games who don't get easily accepted on Steam, probably.

At least every GTA starting with San Andreas (and somewhat applies to the LC episodes as well). I don't even remember what the GTA3 story was about.

To the Moon By: Freebird Games Available: Desura (8.99€) and developer website (somewhy more -- 11.10€) Synopsis: Adventure game that looks like an RPG about two doctors who don't heal people but try to fulfill their last wishes by mucking about in their memories More: RPS Wot I Think. aco9lvygatQ

I'm getting close to the end, I think -- completed the car chase after the tank battle. So far, the game has been really amazing visually. I didn't think there would be that big a difference between this and Drake's Fortune, but the variety compared to the Jungle + Ruins setting of the first one really adds a lot to the mix. And the combat is really much better. Even as the bad guys are sometimes similarly triggered, it seems more predictable somehow -- they are not spawning from behind random trees in the jungle. The fact that easy difficulty is actually easy now also helps. There's still a bit too much combat for my taste, but thanks to the stealth options, set pieces and more distinct enviornments, it's much more tolerable.

I still think the theme is just being a criminal in a big city and would say that the beginning of the game with the immigration theme can be considered Nico's origin story. And even then I don't see how simply being an immigrant who wanted to start a new life but hardly even tried* makes him all that interesting. * because it wouldn't be a GTA game if he had succeeded Perhaps I am trying to hold Rockstar up to a higher standard, but I'm talking about this mostly because I just don't see the story of GTA IV being any better than most game stories, but lots of people are saying that it was. It's ok though, I still play lots of games with even worse stories.
-
Was it really a theme if it only applied to maybe 1/20th of the game?

I thought it would be more appropriate to post this here than in the GTA V thread. Someone linked to this video in the RPS comments to the GTA V trailer, wanting to make the point that the story wasn't really that great. (exact time link: ) NYPl8ppuIJA#t=6m When Nico kills his first guy, he says "Argh! I promised myself not to kill people here!" Stuff like this is why I never understood why some people thought Nico was a great character or that the story was good. I do admit that the game has lots of good dialogue, though. I think two things that influenced my opinion of the story the most was the above, plus a mission where Nico meets some new boss/mission-giver, is then asked to kill some people and gladly obliges.

If you read interviews with game writers, it is often the case that they are brought on late when the game is already pretty much structured. I don't know if that applies to GTA-s, though. I imagine that Uncharted for example couldn't be done in any other way than writing the script first. But for example a TES game could well be done by continuous collaboration between writers and designers, although I'm sure they may want to have some idea of what the story will be like first so that the world they create would support it. I think GTA falls somewhere in the middle, but there's even more to the game than in TES that doesn't really depend on a 'script' (like the cities themselves).

I think it had a voice over, ending with "Maybe this time things will be different" (spoiler: they weren't) [edit] HlF6fbIFiCM I'm not saying I could design a game as large as GTA, but if I were to make some minimal change that I think would make it better: * move stuff out of missions * maybe still have heavily directed missions for a "main quest", but try to have other stuff more as "side quests", a lot of which would be available at the same time This would potentially improve the storytelling too, opening up other possibilities than individual anecdotes activated by mission triggers. And of course they would have to add more gameplay variety to support that. Probably more things should be made persistent, maybe the player would even need an inventory. And the side quests should probably be more local: you go to an area, do a bunch of stuff there, then go to another area, instead of having to constantly drive back and forth through the city. And they could do the same for missions: instead of the whole mission requiring going to A, then driving someone from A to B, maybe you would just previously agree to meet them at B to trigger the mission at B. (hm... but that would reduce the banter while driving) What I think they will actually do: some side quest like things as in Red Dead, but completing those mainly resulted in getting some bonus items and the like, if I remember correctly. Still, hunting puma and bears was pretty awesome.
