  1. Batman: Arkham City

Yes, it's crap. But it's outrageous that it's still unavailable for you after you bought it. I thought the ones who already bought it when it was available would still be able to install and play it. Also, Skyrim is impossible to buy locally or digitally it seems. They say there are distribution problems with it all over Europe and it may come in 2 weeks. And Steam has made it unavailable here just like some other Bethesda Games and Arkham City. I only wonder if more games are going to follow.

Now you're all just trying to make me feel bad for buying it.
  3. Computer insomnia

    Wow, clever bot.
  4. Holiday giveaway of 2011

Yeah, it's probably the worst game on that list.
  5. Holiday giveaway of 2011

Not if it's not crossed out -- which it isn't
  6. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

Ok, I'm trying to ignore the checkpoint issue and am really enjoying it. Almost looked at a walkthrough for the end puzzel of the race level, but finally got it.
  7. Holiday giveaway of 2011

Ok, so I offered the games to my coworkers as well and some more are now taken. I don't really expect any more requests here, but I'm keeping the list up to date anyway, just in case.
  8. Black Friday Deals

I just realized something horrible -- I have more money to spend on games this quarter than I thought. Since my recent apartment purchase my expenses have Risen and I was trying to spend less on games, but I didn't consider that I buy games digitally through a different account and I transfered some money there a while back and there's still plenty left. Uuh... I just hope I don't end up filling my backlog for no good reason other than "it was cheap on Steam". But I might now consider getting Batman and Assassass Creed: The New One in December.
  9. Black Friday Deals

Digital Distribution Assholes! Take my money, you Steam bastards! Bought L.A. Noire, Secret of the Island of Monkies II : Revenge of a Fellow Named LeChuck, Ctulhu Saves the World, The Binding of Isaac Thought about Two Worlds II and Fallout New Vegas, but I haven't even found time to play Two Worlds I and the Fallout 3 expansions... There's also a new Prince of Persia game (Forgotten Sands)... When did that come out? Any good?
  10. Batman: Arkham City

Ok, what the fuck is going on? Now this game also disappeared for my region in Steam. Also for Ukraine. Seems to be the same fucking shit as with Skyrim. I'm really being pushed towards piracy here... haven't taken the bait yet.
  11. Batman: Arkham City

Hmm... I just totaled the games I want that are out/should come out pretty soon and it's over 200€ on Steam I guess I'll just go with Skyrim and leave Batman waiting for Christmas sales or better times.
  12. The sneaky stealth game thread.

They are the best, but I don't think I have anything left to say about them. I've tried to replay them recently (especially Thief Gold, as I think I originally played the non-Gold version), but didn't get to the end again. They are still very playable, though. There are even some really good mods/maps that are worth playing.
  13. Red Dead Redemption

There's a weird thing in Red Dead that the minigames often last a full in-game day. Horseshoes is slow enough to take most of the day, and I was just in a poker game that lasted more than 24h in-game, and probably more than an hour real time. This stupid Mexican guy was probably bluffing half of the time, but I had such shitty hands that I couldn't even out-bluff him and whenever I had a good hand he kept folding. Also, I didn't notice this as much in the Xbox 360 version, but this time I've ran into infinite wolves+coyotes a few times. Once I run into some and kill them, new ones appear, and before I can skin them, even more will come. I've not seen more than 6 or so at the same time, but I had over 20 in one place when I finally gave up and left. Seems to happen most when in treasure locations, but that might be a coincidence. I guess some other dead animal is functioning as bait and they just keep coming for that.
  14. The sneaky stealth game thread.

Have you heard about this game called Grim Fandango? It was released in 1998 by LucasArts * * sorry, in-joke, assuming someone still remembers
  15. But you have to make sure the processor is not 3.2GHz, or it will cause a resonance cascade which might either blow up your monitor or open up a protal.
  16. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

Damn, this just keeps getting worse. I don't think precise platforming + puzzles is a particularly good combination if interleaved like that. There's this one level where you set off a dynamite at the very start, which sets off a long chain reaction of burning wood that you have to race. One misjump and you have to begin again. After that there is a relatively easy puzzle (I think, I kind of solved it by mistake) then a very easy puzzle, and then a hard one. Get the hard puzzle wrong? Congratulations, you have to do the race again. This is why it needs checkpoints.
  17. It seems nowadays difference in memory size can vary much more than it used to. 4GB is usually recommended now for software development, but you could still be fine with 2GB most of the time (and for games too), probably, if it isn't anything special that would require much more. In spring I built a machine with 8GB, probably never used more than half of it so far. Then, I know some devs who need 64GB. Just recently heard a funny thing about Java : below 32GB you can use "compressed pointers" to use less memory, but then if you go over that, you should really go over 46GB, because "uncompressing" the pointers will likely take up the difference. And of course the processor-memory speed gap is still widening, I think.
  18. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

Not really, IMHO. Also I could do without checkpoints if the reset function was quicker.
  19. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

uh, yeah, I knew what I said came out wrong. I meant to say that it was clear that some were not possible on first try, but it wasn't always clear whether you could or not.
  20. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

hmph. it also doesn't help that 'reset' takes about 7 seconds.
  21. Red Dead Redemption

So I somewhy didn't want to begin Morrowind again before I can get my hands on Skyrim and don't want to spend money on more expensive new games now so instead I bought the PS3 version of RDR and am now replaying that. Still awesome! This time I'll try to do more of the side things before the main story, as I will want to get 100%.
  22. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

This game is pretty good. Some of the puzzles are actually hard. But too often the easiest (best?) solution is to skip getting that Block that Matters now and come back later when you have more powers. A couple of times it made me think whether I actually can get it now. The only thing it lacks is checkpoints. Re-doing the mundane parts of the level because you screwed up the difficult puzzles is annoying enough that it usually makes me quit the game and come back later.
  23. Johann Sebastian Joust

We have some office parties coming up and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to get ones hands on Johann Sebastian Joust somehow*. Or is it currently only for indie developers to tease people with? * assuming we already had the number of controllers required
  24. The threat of Big Dog

Whoa. Didn't realize how big that snake-thing was until I saw the human in the spider.
  25. The sneaky stealth game thread.

You mean the game as a whole was ahed of its time or the stealth? If you mean the stealth, in which ways? Didn't do anything really new IMHO. To me, it was just a surprisingly good license-based game at the time (only topped later by Batman: Arkham Asylum), and I agree that it doesn't age as well as I would expect. I imagine Batman: Arkham Asylum will still be very playable in 10 years.
