  1. The time the glazed christmas ham made the trains run on time is my favorite, but I'll save that story for another day.

Why do I like Eric Clapton in Cream, but not when he went solo?

I'm starting to like juice less and less as I become older, its too sweet. One of the few I can still get into is Apricot nectar, but thats hard to find in the US if you want it to taste good. Thats why every Thursday morning I pack my duffel bag with a sweater and a matching hotdog, and catch the bus to Lisbon. The rest of the week I just drink tea, like any upstanding citizen.

  2. Just a few things, that may or may not pretain to anything mentioned above.

    Israel

This Israeli wall is pretty fucking Orwellian, but not without its charm. I don't think any president will do anything about Jewish rocket-happy retaliation or Berlin-walling because movies have made it such a touchy subject (not that they should, I'm not really sure what they're on about). So Palestine and Israel should really be excluded from andy future middle-eastern plan, let them squabble.

Anyway, Kerry and Bush are a repeat of our last choicless election, bring back Bob Dole and Bill Clinton! I think that was the last election where a candidate exuded any kind of charisma or public speaking ability....fuck, I think Ross Perot should give it another shot, he could win.

I know I for one will not be throwing away my vote, and will therefore be saving it for the next election.

  3. Black and White 2 really does look nice, hopefully it won't be a total bust like B&W 1.

Nice demo Lindset, I'd never seen it. I guess fur effects were being used way before the DX9 cards.

  4. I didn't really like Viewtiful Joe all that much (I own it and beat it), although I did enjoy the over-all difficulty and art style..but it was still just a regular action game, tumbling into the same repetitve prat-falls as every game in the genre. Get river city ransom instead.

  5. They're both ass. But I guess your into that anyway....

I never saw what the big fuss was about NOLF, played the demo...I seem to remeber the training mission more than the game, because of its wood textures. Yep. Wasn't all that funny either.

  6. I think Maureen's voice actor from full throttle is one of the NPC voices, you hear it on the second mission of the game. Which is where I stopped, because its not that good; and naviagting the town is a complete pain. The load times are annoyingly frequent and the over-world seems like just a way to create confusion and lengthen the game. I do like the shadows and the graphics in general, as well as the general-mission sneaky gameplay, but its still underwhelming. DS scores a big "meh" in my book.

  7. The first one was a bust in my opinion--but it could just be me, since every action game I play sours me on the genre more and more. Tedious combat aside, I found its platforming elements to be pretty schloppy too....you can run on walls, yeah. The last jumpy-action game that I really liked would be ICO (if you could call that action), and to a lesser extent viewtiful joe.

  8. Today's Double Fine update is asking for a programmer and a producer; when I clicked on the programmer link the following interesting tidbit jumped out at me:

"Initial tasks will focus on making existing systems cross-platform compatible." and "Programming of cross-platform game system technology to required coding standards".

Which would infer that since Psychonauts has shed its publisher (Microsoft), it might go multi-platform. Just speculation of course, but I thought I'd mention it.

  9. I would just like to append this thought: it's not old Rissian authors, it's dead Russian authors. Dear developers, one more thing to consider; realism is fatal.

Speaking of which, I just read that Anna Karenina is at No.1 on the best seller's list because its being endorsed by Oprah's book club. That made me smile...I think Oprah should just start abusing the power and endorse stuff like Mein Kampf. I'd like to see that at #1, just for laughs.

  10. BTW, has anyone else here played the original Half-Life demo? For those who haven't, the setting has nothing to do with any of the levels in the full game. I remember playing it for the first time and thinking, Wow! This is what good gaming is about? I have to get this game now! I was impressed that they kept the demo's gameworld separate from the full game, so that you got a good impression of it but weren't spoiled, either.

Wow, I've never heard of this demo, I'm going to have to download it...

  11. Except that Wing Commander was a game first. That's a huge difference. You're not allowed to compare Wing Commander the game to Wing Commander the movie, or Super Mario Bros the game to Super Mario Bros the movie because in those cases its the movie that's the cheap licensing tie-in, not the other way around. Riddick is the first hollywood import to the games industry (of note at least) that's significantly outdone its parent movie franchise.

Ah, I see. But Laceyware is right about Ecks vs Sever that game was reviewed quite well.

  12. Did anybody read that one computer gaming world article that had over-rated games. CMI was one of them! Can you believe it? I love CMI.

On a nother note, if you compare the Monkey Island series to the Simpsons you'll find a startling duality.

The first MI is like the first season: a solid beginning to a series with a great sense of humor that is more smirk than laugh, but still enjoyable.

The 2nd MI is like the next 3 seasons: absolutely great and mch more refined version of the first outing's humor.

The 3rd is like the last good seasons (5-8 or something like that), which uses a more fast paced, everything-is-funny style, but loses a bit of the story telling panache.

The 4th one is shit, just like the simpson's today.
