I think it will come to the US, I mean viewtiful joe came to the US and was one of the most succesful games of last years holiday season....that game is absolutely nuts. I think this game really leapfrogs VJ in style though. Gameplay wise its supposed to be an action game, but seeing the newest trailer, it looks like there will be lots of sidequests and human interaction in this game. It actually seems alot like Zelda: WW in this newest trailer. I really hope its good.

Nothing is more retarded than the "pre-order" system in gaming retail.

Well if the guy was practically reading his comments off the box I can understand your annoyance... Here's another random story about Gamestop: When I first bought a gamecube and went to buy Pikmin, I went to cashier and asked him if he had a copy of "peekmin" behind the counter. And then he gave this completely-out-of-no where sass-mouth reply "We don't have a peekmen but we have a pikmin. Do mean piiiiiikmin??" Guess what fucker, its not real word. Give me my game. -
...I always wondered how a post about Nutella would be worked into one of these threads, I'm only sad that it wasn't me..... I think the Intrepid Homoludens is right about ICO though, although you can gawk and clamor over the graphics thats not what really what it was all about. Few games can produce so many memories....jumping from one cage to another in the mist of a waterfall, those dancing shadows, the final boss and the ending cutscene. Its very comparable to Grim Fandango in the fact that its an awesome 'thing'. Not just one of the best games ever, but defying its genre and conquering most movies and music too, the whole experience is what leaves the impression. I swear I'm not on acid.

I think jet Grind Radio is one of the 10 finest games ever created...imagine my shock when playing JSRF--what a slick piece of shit. It was like EA homogenized the whole wacky Japanese experience. Absolutely awful. The gameplay was absolutely gutted of its two best things (running from the law within the level while battling the time, and DDR like motions of graffiti painting) and the graphics are worse to top it off! Shocking. Thats all I have to say about that. Anyway, this is my advice to you: If you're the kind of person who buys a game every week or loves online multiplayer, get the Xbox. If you're the kind of person who buys games more or less on a monthly basis or less, get the gamecube. Although I hate Halo (for reasons I'm not going into here), the Xbox is a great piece of hardware for other reasons and recieves a huge amount of third party support. Plus it will probably get Psychonauts first.... But I can tell you I've only played about 5 games in this generation of consoles that have really made feel good about being a gamer, and none of them have been on the xbox.

....uh, I don't really see the problem with that cashier, Farbor. He was just trying to inform you of the cancellation, seems like the right thing to do. -
I understand and agree Ben. I hope the game retains puzzle elements though, it seems much more acton oriented than the deliberately paced ICO. Also if the game is purely based around these giants in a huge overworld, will there be any tightly interwoven areas with brilliant level design? I hope so.

I hate guilty gear too Chris...I can't put my finger on why, but it's ass.

See what company made your router and then go their site. Go to Troubleshooting or Faqs section and search it up itsnot very difficult...if your using a D-Link router, their instructions are very easy to follow.

Piracy is no excuse for systems like PS2, which has very low piracy compared to PC titles...if they don't stock PC titles, its understanable, but not stocking even a couple smaller-ps2 titles is just risk-averse laziness. Another wierd thing about EB is how partisan the sales people are who work there. I had to listen to a whole rant about how Nintendo is languishing under the might of microsoft from a salesperson when i was buying Pikmin 2. Just put the game in the bag, fatty! And fuck off! I mean, shoudn't they be trained (yes, like common dogs) to be a little positive about their own products? -
It'd be nice if they also released them for Pcoket PC, I would be interested then because the touch screen is well suited...and ScummVM proves its viability.

A game completely about rolling trash balls. You start off small, pushing the ball over things like tacks and pencils and you escalate to the size of a small island....all in one level. Its been getting rave reviews and is said to have an amazing sound track. Start with rodents ...then cars ....buildings and beyond! And its coming out in 2 weeks for $20! Whats not to lose!?? I love games that no one has the balls to make except the Japanese salary man who's zonked out of his mind from stress!

I would be shocked if Katamri ever even got a commercial here.... It came out today methinks, so I'll probably pick it up on Friday. And I have Pikmin 2 and Stretch Panic basically untouched, so I've got some gaming to take care of.

You probably only find the control schemes of MGS and Metroid Prime akward because of your prior PC use...these control schemes are actually very intuitive, and some of my favorite outrside-of-the box control schemes. MGS in particular is pretty easy to sneak around in. It has a pretty much revolutionary menu system and control scheme (or MGS did) X changes your stance and then the stick controls your movement. I'd guess that you and your roomie just don't have the patience to learn the control scheme... Halo is the only game that is trying to play like a PC game out of that list, with one moving and the other aiming (emulation keyboard and mouse). I think this is the only game with atrocious controls from the ones you mentioned.

Well the animation didn't work but can i guess anyway? He T-Bags the Iced Tea twice before sending it out to the customers!

Hmmm, I'd think "restrained but generally enjoyable" would be a more likely outcome.

It also seems that because the limitations are clear and known for consoles, more work can be poured into the actual artwork and style of the game, rather than optimization at the risk of quality. Even with PS2's limited hardware, if a developer has a good art direction and knows the boundaries, the results can be stunning. Usually, big budget console games have more fleshed out art aspects, while big budget PC games try to push the envelope of technical effects are settle for mediocrity (with the exception of a few titles, like Grim Fandango...which I've only heard about from friends).

How about this violin base? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=bass/search/detail/base_pid/508160/

Consoles are way more affordable than PC's unless your one who pirates games which is always easier on a PC). Graphics cards are about the equivalent of consoles, games are just as expensive, and then there are tons of other things to worry about too. computers have high resolution and the keyboard mouse set up is unbeatable for FPS...but as TVs and consoles work towards higher resolutions computer games might stop making making sense.

Yeah strategy games that demand non stop fast clicking usually kind of miss the point for me...I guess thats why I've never movd beyond Civ, good old turn based. War Craft 3 really comes to mind when talking about games that require too much micromanagment. Hey, anybody remember Total Annihalation? That game was great.

I think Idlethumbs should move a step ahead of a demo feature and just start ftping games! Or maybe do some home of the underdog thing but not nearly as cluttered. Like offer up an old but awesome game every once in a while with review or summat and staff opinons....might as well be a wacky foto essay. But then again this would completely undermine the Thumbs purpose--nonsensical rants!!!

We all go through periods like that...I think 'IH' had a thread very similar to this one not but a few months ago. In the end though I'm rarely impressed by demos, only a select few have been good enough to force me to buy the game...Metal Gear Solid, Grim Fandango, System Shock 2, and Metroid Prime. I think thats it.

Whenever I here the chemical brothers song "setting sun" I think of the Sims, shudder, and then I just have to switch it off. Its quite bothersome. One fond gaming memory I have was when I was just a tot, maybe 5 or 6, I was on a roll in Super Mario 3. I was so proud of my achievment that I decided to just pause the game so I could show my brother (who was at school or something) where I'd gotten to. I had it paused for a good few hours before my sister switched off.....its a very vivid memory. Good times. Obviously this memory is recalled when playing said game.

He looks like Solid Snake with a bus pass.

Yeah the giant also has his own single player campaign.

I like the new one more than rRootage.
