Idlethumbs has officially arrived! -
I already posted this in the current psychonauts thread. But just in case anyone else misses it...there a re 4 new movies below the 2 mentioned that are new gameplay ones. Watch those!

The gameplay videos are what impressed me. I love the quality of the animation, the fluid action, great voice acting....and the branhcing text trees! I've missed them so!

An Abuse of Basic Human Rights (in Doom 3, apparently)
manny_c44 replied to Salka's topic in Video Gaming
After playing a bunch of levels on of PocketQuake on my pocket PC, I remembered how much better Quake is as a game. The level design is superb...John Romero makes me his bitch regularly in Quake, while in Doom 3, I'm not so much the bitch. -
Sounds like teh Suck.

The best part is...I have absolutely no idea what BloodRayne 2 is about.
-
They did make that game, and its reviews were good. But I've never played it, good concept except for one thing--back before backlit Gameboys it was probably hard as hell to be able to see what was happening on the screen...more often than not you were probably just staring at your puzzeled reflection.

Here's a new article from Gamespot about the adventure game start up: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/10/01/news_6109473.html It kind of hints that they're trying to finsh Sam and Max themselves. Plus they talk about skipping the publisher step altogether and distributing online instead. They are hoping to be a profitible without the need for advertsing. I'm all for it.

If you go to the Steam website forums and search you may find an answer, if you really care.

Well, Blue-Ray discs are going to be coming out within a year or so, maybe they don't want to force a huge update throughout the PC gaming world (which includes the millions of 9 year olds playing the Sims) when a much better medium is shortly going to be available.

O'Brien to Take Over The Tonight Show in 2009
manny_c44 replied to Kolzig's topic in Movies & Television
There was one segment I will never forget from the daily show....they were running around the 2000 Democratic convention finding random Rabbi's and shouting "Mr.Lieberman! Could we have a few minutes for an interview!?" . -
We'll be good..... ...man googles so fucking great! So many bizarre photos just waiting to be unearthed!
-
I don't know either....just smile and nod.

Nintendo DS multiplayer wireless puppet theater conspiracy theory madness
manny_c44 replied to Jake's topic in Video Gaming
By bullshit I mean that the pictures look absolutely fake. Plus, its not really nintedno's style if you get what I mean. I'm sure Nintendo is cooking up all sorts of things for the DS, maybe Mario Net is what its called, who knows. I'm just saying these specific pictures are crap. -
Well it sure as hell isn't anywhere around me, none of the game stores around me ever got any shipments, but I've been assured "more are on the way".

Nintendo DS multiplayer wireless puppet theater conspiracy theory madness

Sounds like wishful thinking and alot of bullshit to me. -
A good thing about those tiny disks is that load times are improved (supposedly)...I must admit load times in most gamecube games are pleasantly short, if they exist at all. As for Super Mario Sunshine, I agree with Jake, its probably the most fun platformer since N64, and it takes out alot of the painful mistakes made by poorly placed camera or difficulty judging distances. That makes gameplay alot less tedious. The parts where you play without the water pack are pure Mario fun...kind of makes one wish they'd just made a whole game like that.

The Dreamcast also had a pretty nice controller to hold...it introduced the spring shoulder buttons too (and Microsoft basically ripped the whole design off for their first controller, the only difference is about 20lbs of plastic on the Xbox controller). The only problem is that it looked pretty damn retarded, alot of people feelt that way towards the gamecube controller. It looks like a Fisher Price toy, 'My First Controller' or something.

Gameplay could go either way, but they have an undeniably cool art direction. Why does it seem only Japanese games have unique art direction while US games are either mediocre or just try to showcase efects and engines (like UT or Doom 3)? It always seems to me that Japanese developers know the boundaries and try to flesh out a world within a platform's technological constraints, while American companies always try to max a system out with geometry before realizing that it doesn't necessarily make a game look good--pushing boundaries before looking for possibilities inside the boundaries. This game is made by the Viewtiful Joe people and looks to have charming Zelda-like interactions with towns people. Here's a nice screen shot:
