  1. Extraordinary League of Gentlemen

Yeah thats what I thought was so pretentious, everything was portrayed as a break from normal cinema, but it looked like it was trying to be different. The whole experience of watching that movie was a grim affair for me. I too liked the royal Tenenbaums, does it have some sort of connection to Lost in Translation? Or did you just bring it up because of its kind-of-the-same style?
  2. Extraordinary League of Gentlemen

When I said art house, I didn't mean bizarre angles, long shadows and crazy scene switching...I meant in the more modern sense. Like "indie" films, which is what LiT is, in a sense. And for Rodi, if you fiirst watched citizen Kane as a small child, you should watch it again now. Its just good, and unboring if you listen to the dialouge.
  3. So I just got KOTOR....wot now?

I just got KOTOR today for the PC, but won't have a chance to play until atleast friday, the only game-time I can squeeze in on weekdays now is on my Pocket PC and a couple rounds of Counter Strike. I hope when Hl2 gets unlocked my interest for this game isn't smashed, that gives me half a month to either beat it or get really deep in.
  4. Extraordinary League of Gentlemen

Lost in Translation, no matter its good intentions and concept (like Bc9b pointed out), is a bad movie. Alot of movies are just exciting intellectually, others are just exciting action wise, but this movie was boring as fuck all in every category. Bill Murray was good...but otherwise the movie came off like a pretentious art-house-waste-of-my-fucking-time. As an actual film it failed on all fronts and I don't know what critics saw in it. Citizen Kane is great. The kind of movie that can't be attacked by dramatic movie stereotypes because it made them. Probably my favorite movie, but then there is always 2001, and Star Wars still is great each time I watch it. Anyway, to get back on topic. LXG was just a shame, it wasted the actors and its few good ideas in order to sell tickets. Sometimes, if there's too much source material, you should probably just chop some of the eleventy-billion characters out of the picture so it doesn't feel like Marvel vs Capcom 2. Bad script and painful Hollywood action just kill the feeling.
  5. M.A.M.E.... Am I being to strick with myself?

If you're buying games that old, the money is just going to the people you're buying from, not the developers or publishers. So pirate as much as you want. If you don't have a decent gamepad MAME is going to suck though.
  6. Invader Zim

Maybe if you get banned, you'll be more popular. I know I'd like you twice as much.

I have much more respect for him now. In fact I think GWB might be almost normal when he's not addressing the public. Like I saw a tape of him when he was wasted and he seemed pretty on the level. Also, I think I may be the only person on the face of the earth that thinks some of Bush's jokes are actually funny (I mean, never as funny as the stunned silence that follows them, but still).
  8. Is Your Mom Dead?

I'll be in San Francisco this winter, so we can terrorize Remo's residence together...although I'd think SF might be one of the furthest places on earth from the UK. So I'm not sure how you'll be getting there, unless you make a bid to circumnavigate the globe in hot air balloon, in which case I'm sure corporations will be lined up to fund your trip.
  9. Did I waste 24 bucks?

...I don't even want to start a discussion about fighting game stories. MGS2 was very good from the gameplay perspective (On hard mode I found it to be way better than otherwise), but can you honestly say that its contrived story and ridiculous characters (Vamp??!?!) really have a leg up on Fallout, other than in their cinematic presentation?
  10. Flatout

Yeah, you don't, but there are a million 12 year olds dying to show this game off to their parents and psychologists.

Its very understandable how many people dislike fallout, because your oppurtunities for failure and discontent are as abundant as success, its just open ended like that. Plus, since you create your own character in fallout, and your text choices and personality are all modifiable by the levels (the best leveling system in any game, in my opinion), wou become attached to the character because you really do make him or her, rather than being dragged around a pre-determined world. I remember the first time playing fallout 2 was frustrating, but after I picked up again many years later, a few different decisions made the game completely different and enjoyable. As for combat I think its very intuitive and strategic, but some bad situations do call for granny saving (just like any modern game). And granted, the plot is thin, but the game's whole purpose is open endedness. No real sweeping narrative can be crafted under those circumstances. Besides I don't mind sacrificing story for gameplay and atmosphere (I actually liked FFX, if you read my earliest post. As for Metal Gear Solid, if you have played the first one (maybe you have, I'm not sure) you would begin to understand fan reaction to Raiden. The first game was so good, that making the sequel drop the baddass main character was unbelievable for fans. It doesn't matter that Raiden was a bitchy Swede, its the fact that Snake was replaced.
  12. The Bard's Tale 6.7 at Gamespot

Yep, I'm in the process of reading the hallway now. What I've read so far is indeed pretty great...and that one cutscene where the large green monster's arm falls next to that clay guy, and and the fork and knife magically appear in his hands is one of the most arbitrarily hilarious things I have seen in a long time.
  13. ***** ***** Forums .. relocation :-D

    Finally, censorship done right!
  14. Did I waste 24 bucks?

  15. The Bard's Tale 6.7 at Gamespot

Oh, Jaero, just so you know all of your blatant campaigning didn't go to waste, I now have a copy of the Neverhood and am playing through it. You know, so far I've been able to play only for a brief time, but I'm already impressed by the style and music.
  16. Did I waste 24 bucks?

You probably have never played a good US RPG. Try fallout. At first you might be put off by the lack of pompous speechifying and the presence of gameplay, but you'll probably survive the shock.
  17. IGN reviews San Andreas: "9.9"

No one can contain their excitement when using 'ph'-that-sound-like 'f' words. It's just contagious.
  18. Morrowind

I actually know absolutely nothing about DD at all, its just the way you were throwing in the town names like you'd actually been their and fondly remembered them. Almost like a travel guide author... Speaking of Morrowind, I think its great in its expansive vision and execution, but I will be absolutely gutted if Bethesda makes Fallout 3 anything like it. Which, sadly, is probably unavoidable. ...ughhgh, can you imagine a plodding fiirst person Fallout game? I would weep openly.
  19. The Bard's Tale 6.7 at Gamespot

I think you shouldn't put much faith in user reviews. Usually they're either petulant reactionary rants towards the game or a scared restatement of the popular opinion.
  20. Morrowind

Woah, you sound like a D&D nerd.
  21. The Bard's Tale 6.7 at Gamespot

Yes, it is available starting today, although I haven't been to any shops or anything to verify.
  22. show us your room!

The voodoo3 box is nice looking I suppose, but I have no idea why one would display it like that. Especially since, when you take a good look at it, its just an orange bald guy.
  23. Avatars must go! ...thus spake Kingzjester

Wow, could you imagine if everyone on the forum had these fleshy avatars...it would be, disturbing, I think. Body parts every which way.
  24. The Bard's Tale 6.7 at Gamespot

By the way will this neverhood game run on XP?
  25. Did I waste 24 bucks?

...I hardly think the spoiler tag is necessary, since Final Fantasy characters fit into those molds in every single iteration. The biggest problem, even worse than the characters or the dialouge, is that Japanese-RPG urge to blow off into a 5 hour tangent for no reason, introduce more meaningless characters, and generally destroy whatever kind of narrative continuity it hoped to achieve at its outset. I can understand the developers excitement at his ability to add a moaning townsperson and complicated cutscenes, but these set-pieces exist only to prove their possibility. There are millions of shiny-eyed final fantasy fans who can blissfully nod along with the Japanese half-wits slapping together this interactive experience, but I would enjoy a cohesive and well written story more than whats there now.
