  1. Psychonauts hate thread

Would that be a customs charge rather than 'shipping'?My package helpfully said it was a "book" with a value of $20 CDN, so I avoided all that kerfuffle.
  2. Write some reviews in 15 words or less

All right. Things I've played recently. ROCK HARD.Psychonauts: BEST. Beyond Good and Evil It made me think "screw adventure games." This is where it's AT. Moment of Silence Demo: 14% is pushing it. Screw adventure games. Bumout 3: Red mist. Burning rage. Screaming anger. Thrown controllers. Great game.
  3. Psychonauts hate thread

Right, I got it to work. You can stop with your crocodile tears. BEST EVER!!
  4. Psychonauts hate thread

Got it today from Canada. It doesn't work. Pity me.
  5. Or that we're used to an adventure game mentality of exploring every possible avenue before moving on, more likely. :~ I must admit that I take it to extremes - even if a hit a 'loading' point (which takes about a minute to complete on my computer) and I think I might have missed exploring an area, I'll go back through the map transition (cue another minute of waiting!) to check it out. Usually there's nothing more than a bit of health or maybe a random headcrab in there, but sometimes that extra bit of health has come in handy.
  6. I think you may be thinking of GTA1. I have played GTA2 in multiplayer over the Internet and it worked pretty well (though it paused occasionally). It's also truly hilarious in multiplayer. There is nothing quite like trying to flamethrow your opponent to a crisp while being chased by a million cops.
  7. 3 Things that are Annoying Me

Man, you have it easy with Halo 2. What about Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast, where you'd turn the corner and find yourself driving while suspended in mid-air as the game desperately filled in the blanks? Now that was annoying. What else is annoying? Three things? At the moment I nominate: a) Half-Life 2. Man, the Combine are kinda dumb. Which suits me, but it's not really what I expect from 'advanced' AI. Lack of time for playing Half-Life 2. c) Ocarina of Time. Maybe in another six years I'll get past the forest template. Wait, no.
  8. Gish level editor, patch, released

Mmm, I play it sporadically but soon get tired of it and give up. The frustration of dying by getting snagged on some lift or something for the umpteenth time is just too great! The collection mode, on the other hand, is fantastic. Seriously though, was the Save Replay feature always there? Bah, bah, and treble bah.
  9. CD protection...

I always assumed that patches traditionally did away with copy protection because it was something that the publisher insisted on - so the developers wouldn't be too bothered about retaining it. This may be way off though. Obviously, fully agreed that copy protection is a seriously dumb idea for all reasons that ever have or ever will be mentioned.
  10. Sam and Max Download on Gamespot

Yeah, I'd say it's misfiled. It seems like some kind of internal CNET "happy Christmas" movie. It's 4.74GB, 22 minutes long and ends with some dudes wishing everyone a "happy holiday party". Man, it feels quite sad that nobody else has downloaded this before me. :~ This is the highlight:
  11. Half Life 2 First Impressions

Hee, what the hell? This really shows how much attention I pay to FPS storylines. I just remember killing a big alien dude at the end. And having fun doing it.
  12. Top Gear

Yeah, I'm exactly the same. I've been getting bored at the 'restoration' section and turning it off recently, which is just as well as the programme finishes quite late! Anyone catch it the other week with some guy saying he learnt Nurburgring on "some Xbox game"? Project Gotham Racing 2, man. OH GOD, IT'S SO HARD. Last night they had a great feature where they each bought a Porsche for under £1500 - Jeremy's was impressive for the money, except it kept breaking down and trailed water, petrol and an enormous cloud of black smoke wherever it went. Best!
  13. Jack Black and Project Gotham Racing 2

God I hate him. PROJECT GOTHAM RACING 2 IS SO HARD
  14. Tremors and stupid TV channels

Have you heard about these cool new VCR machines?
  15. Help me with a problem!

Interior designer, mang. A decorator just slaps some paint on the walls.
  16. Half-Life 2 deathmatch has landed

Steam is poo. No getting around it. FACT. HL2 DM seems rather bandwidth heavy as well - up to 7kb/sec displayed on netgraph 3 with only six players. Having said that, it seemed fine for me - maybe you people have been playing on overwhelmed servers or something? I think a server admin who slapped HL2 DM on a server intended for CS, without tweaking the maximum number of players, would soon run into trouble. Did anyone ever play the Melee 3D deathmatch map for the original HL? It was great, and beautiful. Make me a version in Source. NOW!
  17. Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

Yes, it's not being going continuously for twenty years. I think a few series were made in the early eighties (by ITV), then it was nothing but a memory until the BBC revived it a few years ago in glossy, high-budget form - hence the exotic locations . There's quite a tradition of this happening in British television, I'm not sure if it happens anywhere else. It is quite good though - probably one of the more enjoyable TV programmes in recent years! I'm glad you liked it enough to make a thread about it! But it's not quite as awesome "that show about the undertakers".
  18. Unlocking Half-Life 2

It started crashing consistently for me after I upgrdaded to the latest NVidia display drivers (66.93). Once I downgraded the problem went away again. Moral of the story: if it ain't broke...
  19. Unlocking Half-Life 2

Man, I weep for you. The unlocking process was trouble-free for me and I was still pissed off by it. Valve have annoyed so many people with this one, it's insane. I reckon it won't happen again.
  20. Half Life 2 First Impressions

Erkki's sig is seriously devaluing the mighty through overuse, man. Meanwhile, my sig is inflating , if anything.
  21. Half Life 2 First Impressions

Anyone else feel bummed in the gob by HL: Source? Perhaps it was a bit much to expect a complete graphical update, but seriously! Barney now has a reflective helmet - I think that's about the sum total of the improvements, almost. Worth paying $10 more for? Hmm. No. HL2 remains great though, even if there are too many
  22. HL2: Will it be woth the wait?

    Apparently the latter.
  23. HL2: Will it be woth the wait?

Oh man, the slow unlocking causes me pain. I left my computer on overnight in the hope it would somehow do this by magic, but no, the process only seemed to be startable manually at 8am.
  24. HL2: Will it be woth the wait?

Hey, if all four active threads on The Thumb are about HL2, it must be doing something right. Anticipation is certainly building around Dogman Town. I spent part of the evening tinkering with video settings to get the Source video stress test to run well, and look pretty. The Predator type creature certainly looks nice, and reading the huge Gamespot article the other day seriously whet my appetite. I will be most disappointed if I don't get at least half an hour in the company of HL2 tomorrow morning. But will it be worth the wait? Judging by how much I enjoyed Opposing Force recently (which wasn't even very good), I'm guessing: yes.
