  1. Lego is Still Cool

Haha, my biggest regret is having lost that swee† swee† picture to time and the internet. † As I recall.
  2. Uplay

What a worthless fucking piece of shit Uplay is. Oh, what a brilliant idea, Ubisoft! A service that links all your shitty games together in a ugly, annoying web of annoying marketing, a useless fucking currency for buying, what, wallpapers?! Sweet, another fucking achievement service on top of everything else. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: CREATING AN ACHIEVEMENT NOTIFICATION EVEN UGLIER THAN THE XBOX ONE! Oh no, your one unstable, shitty single-point-of-failure login server is down? No problemo, signor! Everyone can wait until you're back from your siesta to hit the reset button. In the meantime, just tell everyone their username or password is incorrect. OH SHITTE I WONDER WHY WE ARE LOSING MONEY! MAYBE ZERE AREN'T ENOUGH SERVICES AROUND OUR GAMES.!!!!
  3. New people: Read this, say hi.

Someone probably mentioned this already, but this thread sounds like an Idle Thumbs Anonymous meeting.
  4. The threat of Watch Dogs

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is going to be fucking excellent.
  5. The threat of Watch Dogs

So WATCH_DOGS. I watched the Giant Bomb quick look of this, and I was like "well, this looks pretty boring" when suddenly, the cool protagonist dude hacks someone's phone and a big MUSLIM label pops up, which struck me as weird, and then I started wondering if I was weird for thinking it was weird. Apparently one of the other labels is ADDICTED TO TORTURE PORN, which is cool. Then, later, OF ROMANI DESCENT popped up, and now I want to see the list of stuff they have in the game. Disregarding all of that, though, this game really seems like what I imagine all Ubisoft games to be right now. After burning out on Assassin's Creed III, everything they do just seems super bland (and potentially offensive!)
  6. I Had A Random Thought...

It pisses me off to no end when people think like this. Intentionally breaking the speed limit should be grounds for a permaban from being around other people.
  7. Getting into PC gaming

I just scrolled super-fast through this thread and just wanted to say that creating a Windows installer USB and installing from it is super easy, so you shouldn't buy/install an optical drive just for that.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

SO two new episodes of both 24 and Louie in one night? Amazing!
  9. Idle Sugar

I once did the mistake of thinking USA would only accept the finest of candies, and ordered a "best of" thing on Ebay, full of all sorts of foul-tasting artificially flavored bullshit. My impression is that the mainstream candy like Hershey's and Nestlé is just all around terrible. Of course. Nestlé isn't American, so now I expect most candy to be shit all over the world. I'm pretty sure you can get a lot of delicious candy from smaller manufacturers in the US, though, but they didn't sell boxes of that on Ebay.
  10. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

It must be horrible for the people who've read all the Star Wars books, and suddenly someone decides that the books are wrong. Just imagine if someone did that to Lords of the Ring or whatever.
  11. The Firewatch Typewriter

What? video game. oh. νideogame? ah.
  12. Another Kickstarter, this time for something that sounds like a subscription to whatever they end up making through June 2013. I see on her Wikipedia page she has made a ton of games since Gabriel Knight 3, and I haven't played any of them. This whole Kickstarter thing has exploded – it'll be very interesting to see how it goes. It seems like everyone's expecting it to burn out pretty soon, and, knowing nothing about markets or funding other than how willing I am to open up my wallet again and again for each new game project (that willingness is slightly decreasing, by the way), I imagine it will collapse into something completely different pretty soon, but it would be incredible if we have witnessed the birth of a completely new financing model for indie/whatever games. No doubt, there are millions of dollars being transferred around the world among people struggling to get up the next Kickstarter, and Kickstarter themselves are probably (hopefully) looking into expanding outside the US.
  13. Beyond Good and Evil 2

Now watch Ubisoft turn this into a designed-by-committee borefest like Assassin's Creed. Kidding j/k .... or am I? (j/k):
  14. Lego is Still Cool

Wow, awesome. Have you tried taking pictures of them in one of them tiny makeshift studio that's just some sheets of paper that curve up as a wall in the background, and lighting from various angles?
  15. iOS Gaming

Very beautiful! Completed it in a one go, which is unusual for me.
  16. April Fool's Roundup

I don't get all the whining about April Fools. I may just be following a lot of sourpusses on Twitter, but every year on April 1st, Twitter becomes just a torrent of snark and offended sensibilities, and I can't even begin to understand why. What's wrong with having just one day where the internet suddenly becomes a magical world of surprise and mystery? With the internet now «a thing,» there's zero chance anyone goes for more than five minutes on April 1st without being reminded of it by people complaining about it, people complaining about people's complaints, or every web site listing every internet prank but their own, so getting through the day becomes a game you play against yourself, where you're trying to stay alert and not fall for anything.
  17. Are you a bad enough dude to play Quake III Arena? Original post by [iT]~~t0b1ix~~, additional content by [iT]~~wr3stlev4ni5~~ Server address: idlequake.com Some of us are planning to play some ioquake3 matches at some point. Depending on how many are interested, it may become a regular/semi-regular thing. Quake III? What's that? Quake III Arena, or Quake III, or Quake 3, or Q3A, or Q3, is probably the finest first person arena shooter in the world. It's fast-paced, it's perfectly balanced and it will run buttery smooth on your shitty old computer, no matter the OS. It's the best thing John Carmack has done since whatever he'll be doing with the Oculus Rift. Basically you run and jump around a sweet level, collecting cool weapons, ammunition and power-ups, trying to shoot everyone else while avoiding being shot. Man, that sounds super cool! How do I join in this fun game? First of all, you'll also need the data files from the original game. A popular way of getting those is owning the original game, which you can buy on Steam for a ridiculous price. Anyway, ioquake3 is pretty easy to install (once you understand the process)... So how do I install on my personal Windows computer? Download and install the ioquake3 engine—make sure you install for all users if Windows asks, otherwise the patcher [step 3] won't work. Copy all the .pk3 files from your original Quake III Arena's baseq3 folder into ioquake3's baseq3 folder. Download the ioquake3 Data Installer and run it to get the latest updates from id; ioquake3 will throw an error on load if it's not up-to-date! I'm more of a Mac guy. I bet there are fewer steps for me! You only need to download and run the usual DMG file from the ioquake3 website, then copy just your original game's pak0.pk3 file into: Applications > ioquake3 > baseq3. lol I'm on Linux Who am I kidding? You'll have it installed before you even read this far. Oh sweet, your instructions worked! I'm ready to fully optimize my game! In addition to the above install instructions, here are some super-handy console commands I cribbed from that toblix fellow. These will help you get the most from the game on modern hardware. To open the console, simply run the game and then hit ~ (tilde) on Windows or this thing § on a Mac — both are often in the top-left of your keyboard. Note that you can hit the Tab key to auto-complete commands: I'm reliably informed that the maxfps setting is particularly noteworthy, as it actually impacts the physics within the game engine. Setting it to the magic 125 allows you to jump that bit higher and further, though mind your head. [complete list of Quake III Arena console commands] [ ]
  18. Life

    Do you still have them?
  19. Twitter :)

    It's me, @toblix!
  20. Oculus rift

Twitter last night was interesting. Apparently I caught the news a bit early, at the bottom of /r/technology and figured that, since this hadn't blown up in a big way, it was probably a different Oculus, so I copy-pasted the headline to a couple of people as a «trolling» joke prank. After doing this, I actually read the article myself and found out it was real, and I was really disappointed. My gut reaction was probably similar to most others; shock and surprise, since in my head Oculus was already a success, having hired all these people and announced the DK2, and wasn't in need of more funding (obviously wrong when thinking about it in a non-knee-jerk state of mind) a feeling of betrayal as a Kickstarter backer, as I felt I had been a part of this cool indie success story and now they had sold out and it used to be about the music man (also wrong – Oculus aren't beholden to me in any way. They had sent me the DK1, which was the deal, and I have still been a part of funding a cool technology) and finally sadness and frustration that this whole thing was now owned by Facebook, a company that carries almost nothing but negative connotations for me. After sleeping on it, I'm still disappointed that Facebook now owns the piece of technology I'm most excited about, and I'm worried that the Rift system/platform will now become more gross, but I can also see the advantages of having a big house full of money when trying to mass-market crazy future tech. So, basically, this is probably a good thing for the chances of VR equipment becoming an actual thing that people own, though I can't avoid feeling my enthusiasm has cooled somewhat. All in all, I give this aqcuisition a 7/10. Twitter-wise, it was fun to see how everyone reacted: «Oh boy, this is my chance to make a million-retweet quip! Facerift! Riftbook!» «Fuck you you treacherous sell-out pieces of shit!» «OH WELL I GUESS THEY UNDERESTIMATED THE RESOLVE OF INDIE DEVELOPERS. DO YOU NOT SEE? NOBODY WILL MAKE GAMES FOR YOU NOW, YOU FOOLS. DK2 PREORDER: CANCELLED.» «Oh boy, this is my chance to make a million-retweet snarky meta-quip about all these quips!» «OMG why so many knee-jerk reactions? Where's the in-depth analyses? What is this, Twitter?» «I don't actually read Twitter, so I'm just going to announce that I'm going to stream myself playing Dark Souls II in five minutes.»
  21. I wasn' there either :/(-
