Microsoft announced their new tablet, the Microsoft Surface. Although it's a bit funny, I'm glad to see Microsoft has started to take pages from Apple's book of marketing tricks. Their focus on weird hardware details like the camera and kickstand both being tilted at 22 degrees, and the numerous iterations they went through to get the kickstand snapping sound like Steve Jobs at his best. A third contender on the tablet market can only be a good thing, especially now hat Apple is showing signs of laurel-resting with their latest iOS version. Since it's Microsoft, I'm always expecting them to stumble and make fools of themselves at some point in the process – the tablet will be delayed, or it will be buggy and slow, or no-one will want to develop for it, something like that. I hope it turns out good, though. It looks like a pretty god damn sweet piece of technology, and if it runs a fast, slick OS that lets people surf the web (with Flash omg!), do their email and play their Draw Some Angry Temple Rides without draining the battery or crashing too much, this might be the best Microsoft hardware since the Sidewinder Force Feedback 2.

Just finished it, and loved it. Some thoughts: As I said, it was great. Looking forward to Episode 3. Presumably that'll be a Rodkin/Vanaman one?

I considered buying this today, and even did a back-and-forth with Funcom support to re-open my old account, which was associated with an old email account I could no longer access (which reminds me once again that, if I lose my gmail account, I'm going to die fatally), but when I was asked to chose my "edition" I gave up. There are all sorts of additional packs you can buy that include lots of bonuses and stuff, and I suddenly felt that buying the regular, el cheapo package was a bad idea. I really got the feeling they're after my money this time. Not only do I have to buy it at full price; there's a monthly cost too, and now they're immediately rolling out pay-to-win packages...

So.

It would be cool if you just went in and registered the game on your email address (you don't have to re-download), so that everything balances out in his computer system. SiN, I'll send you the code when I get home. IF YOU CAN WAIT THAT LONG FOR MCPIXEL.

OH SHIT, apparently my sending the same download link to everyone triggered the piracy alarm, and Sos has reported me to the police. I'm just kidding, he instead sent me proper download links with codes for everyone, which I have already sent you. Please use that link instead – you'll later be able to redeem it on Desura, too. Also, I got some additional codes as punishment, one of which I didn't immediately give away. Let me know if you want it.

Wow, I've never witnessed such an outpouring of praise for a game. Sounds like everyone is really loving it. Vimes, it seemed to me what you described was what the designer had hoped for. I never really projected any personality onto the things, and that could be why I never really got anything out of it. From what I read, it seems like most people find the character/personality stuff totally amazing and consider it a milestone in video gaming narrative. It's so weird to me, because I don't get that at all, but there might be something wrong with my empathy. Anyway, it seems most people consider the narrative the greatest thing about the game.

What?! No, I haven't created anything!

Done. I just noticed I've sent everyone the same download link. Let me know if you have problems downloading it.

In honor of Veteranendag I'll be giving away a bunch of McPixels. If you want a McPixel, or would sort of like to try it, but are too fucking cheap or poor to buy it, let me know.

Is the forum software free, or is there a subscription fee, or what?

I do all my homebarrelin' at McDonald's.

Wow, this is hard. I keep hitting points where I'm not sure where to go next or what to do. I haven't become familiar enough with the flow of the game to know if I should be able to solve multiple "leads" one by one, or if they all depend on parallel progress. The slowness of everything adds to the frustration, in addition to having to keep a bunch of stuff in my STM in case I need it. Lots of walking back and forth with very little progress. I'm currently stuck at Now I'm back to not knowing where to go or what to do (with who), and talking to people never seems to help.

You can now buy it for ten dollars. http://mcpixel.net/

Yeah, it's definitely one of the most interesting game commentary things I've seen, easily rivalling the best of GCD vault stuff I've seen. I'm assuming Twitch.tv stores all the recordings indefinitely, but if not, you guys should make sure to get a copy for your own site. -
Okay, I just bought Gods and Kings. Also, I had a tiny panic attack afterwards, as I stared at my Steam library and there was nothing between Cities in Motion and Cogs. For a moment I though maybe I had just dreamt playing Civ V.

I've seen this before. Someone suggests a multiplayer game, there is interest, and then nothing happens. Just to make sure things do happen, how many players can join this thing? Based on the interested players, can we agree on a time that's good for everyone? Maybe it'll have to be on a weekend? Also, the more players, the greater the risk of someone not being able to attend. What's the protocol for that?
