  1. Console Certification

First thing off the top of my head: Always save to internal non-removable storage first, then to removable storage, and if the latter is removed before writing has been committed, prompt the user to reinsert it.
  2. Console Certification

I don't know much about computers, but I'm pretty sure they could implement a robust saving API that all but guaranteed games were saved reliably, even when the user hit shut down in the middle, while still providing raw access for those special occasions. Really, unless there's some sort of hardware/power failure, there's no excuse for letting save games become corrupted.

  4. Doctor me up, Thumbs

Nurse, 50ccs of medicine to the doctor room – stat!
  5. Critical Path

Here's being shot in the face with famous game personalities saying games don't have to be dumb. Anyone know what this is?
  6. Doctor me up, Thumbs

I trust Andy about as far as I can throw him in my dreams in which I'm a big strong giant and everyone respects me for once.
  7. Doctor me up, Thumbs

A doctor actually said that it was "probably nothing?"
  8. RockStar Social Club - Idle Thumbs

I'm so ready for that you wouldn't believe it.
  9. Legal rights for dolphins and whales

I realise you're probably being all jesty, but that's not an awesome thing to say.
  10. Legal rights for dolphins and whales

Yeah, the most modern farms here have all this awesome automatic robot stuff. The cows have walk-through feeding, milking and even a massage/brushing thing that looks horrible, but is apparently pleasant. I wonder how big of a difference there is between industrial farming/dairy in Norway and in the US – whenever I read about it, it's in a US context, which might be spot-on, but also outta whack.
  11. Ebaying my Wii, PS2, other gaming stuff

Wow. Did a little investigating, and it turns out this one joined all the way back in 2004. They even made a Twitter account for it (it says it worked at Sega, which is ridiculous!) You really have to admire these people.
  12. Left 4 Thumbs - The Homethumbing 2

Turns out the Steam event scheduling thing is pretty useless. There's no reminders or visible schedule at all, and then bam! it's on and hope you don't have any plans! The best thing would be a completely regular thing, like Grand Thumb Auto was back in the day. There were enough regular players that, even if a few couldn't make it, there would always be enough people to get a game going. When a regular thing hasn't been established, I think a more Facebook-like thing would be better, in that you would have to explicitly sign up. The loosey-goosey nature of Steam events is like a spiral of non-obligation. No-one has said they'll be there, so you don't want to be the guy that clears his schedule for it and then nobody shows. Okay, maybe not a spiral.

In March, Ubisoft said they wanted to offer PC gamers so much value the need for DRM "goes away." It seems like they think they're doing that by disguising the DRM as a service that provides wallpapers and cloud saving.
  14. Legal rights for dolphins and whales

Where has this been documented? I'm not trying to be fresh; I've heard this a couple of times as an argument against industrial dairy-farming, but it sounds a bit like one of those lies crazy animal rights activists might make up.
  15. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Currently, there's no point to the Summer Sale one other than to make it the number one priority of people like myself to check in on the sale constantly to make sure I vote on everything. If you look at the more general badge, there's one for activating Steam Guard, and ones for using all sorts of Steam functionality they want people to know about, like screenshots and Facebook linking.

    Then we'd be two.
  18. Left 4 Thumbs - The Homethumbing 2

    You should've nagged me.
  19. Driver: San Francisco

So, I assume everyone was curious about the next Driver game, with its weird car-jumping. Apparently Ubisoft was not, as I previously believed, moving away from their ridiculous and broken always-on DRM scheme, and are planning on including this feature in Driver: San Francisco for PC.
  20. Steam Summer Sale 2012

    Of course.
  21. Steam Summer Sale 2012

I was hoping for a better deal on Max Payne 3, and maybe Half-Life 3. Did get Amnesia, Dead Island, Crusader Kings 2 and Spec Ops, though.
  22. Left 4 Thumbs - The Homethumbing 2

    That was quick.
  23. Fun stuff, though a symphonic orchestra playing pop/rock is the worst thing I can hear.
