The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
toblix replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
What's funny is that that's probably where this will end up. After putting micro-transactions everywhere in single-player games, some genius designer will suggest to instead have the player pay a single, larger amount for the game, and have all the micro-purchases included with that initial purchase, and it will be a huge success, and its name will be macro-transactions. -
So I'm playing this on the PC. It looks great, and the dialogue is awesome. I like how they don't have sucky dialogue sequences like Dreamfall had. Anyway, what's up with the combat? Is it true what I heard, that there's more of it in the beginning than is representative of most of the game? I remember KOTOR being like that, too. I'm having a bit of trouble with ordering my guys around and finding out what the abilities do, and when to use them. The tutorial... "stuff" is pretty crap, so there's some dying for me to do before I figure things out. Thankfully, quicksaving is easy as shit.

No Chris Remo popping his head in this time, though

I would "never" do something like that.

Who said anything about sleep?

Oh, I'm not going to strum anything in the shop.
-
Don't worry, I'm going to buy a quality guitar; I doubt the strings will break.
-
Good point. So, how do I know what to look for? An electric guitar is like a small cello that you hold with both hands and there are wires coming out of it?
-
If anyone wants one or more of these region 2 (or whatever Norway is) Xbox 360 games, let me know. Some other people here can probably attest to the fact that you can give me your address and I won't kill you or anything like that. Dead Rising Assassin's Creed II Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Gears of War Gears of War 2 Gears of War 3 Splinter Cell Conviction Alan Wake Guitar Hero III Mirror's Edge Vanquish GTA IV Table Tennis Forza 3 SSX Rock Band 2 Halo 3

I will! The trick is getting one without having to say why. Maybe I'll steal one.

I ordered the magical cable. Now only a guitar remains. And I guess the software. So, Guitars come with strings, right?

Some guy is kickstarting an art/coffee table book with art from Sensible Software's games. What sold me immediately was this image: It takes me back to the days I spent on the Amiga, actually opening these sprite files in Deluxe Paint and making obscene little animations with them.
-
But does it come with Weezer?
-
Come on, that's not even possible!
-
Care to elaborate, or did something just fly over my head?

This review on Ars allays my biggest fears; the desktop experience is not ruined by the Metro one, and the start screen can be quite useful.
-
I've never been this offended!

A bug just gave me the biggest scare. I'm on the second mission (the cat house or whatever) and had just returned to Slackjaw with the audio thing, and mid-thanks he "discovered me", drew his sword and burned me. I had quicksaved right before talking to him, but when I quickloaded everyone immediately went into "get him" mode, and I failed the informant side mission. Apparently others have had the same problem, and it's unclear what causes it, but luckily I could revert to the autosave from when I entered the distillery and things went fine. I guess that taught me to not rely on quicksave, and to save often.

Yeah, my main concern is that they'll try to force me into Metro in some annoying way. I don't use the start menu enough for its disappearance to be big problem for me. I sometimes hit the win-key, type something and hit enter to quickly launch stuff or open files, and I'm slightly worried that I'll be annoyed by the whole screen changing whenever I do that. Also, I'll probably be a little annoyed by the OS loading into the "start screen" (what is that called?) rather than the desktop. My impression is that, other than the start menu missing (which is a huge change,) everything else is still there, some of it greatly improved (like File Explorer.) If I can still have Firefox and uTorrent open, and launch Steam games and play media files when I want without having to go through some weird touch ritual, I'll probably switch over as soon as driver stability is there (which I have the impression may already be the case)

Holy shit; I did it right after posting, and you're right. My impression was they came out of nowhere, but when I blinked up high, I could see them crouching on the balconies. Naturally I took care of them, silently as my wind. Now to find the key to the art dealer's.

I don't know, I just visited Slackjaw (second time in town) and I left the distillery and took a right, and then BAM these guys come outta nowhere, just like in the intro.

Okay, so I'm walking down an alley when a couple of guys who are up to no good magically teleport in and kill me. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and if there's a way to avoid it? Pretty sure it counts as alerting someone, and if I don't kill them (which I'm not sure I even can) I die.
