  1. DOTA 2

That's only a valid answer to three of my questions. That's 3/7, or about the same amount as the increase of the standalone net profit of Pantaloon Retail for the third financial quarter of last year[1]. [1] http://www.goodreturns.in/news/2011/05/19/pantaloon-retail-net-profit-rose-q3-fy11.html
  2. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

But you can have «toblix» as your fucking ship's computer, or whatever.
  3. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I backed it without reading or watching anything, and am counting on everyone else to evaluate its actual kickworthiness. After not backing FTL, I'm not going to let the chance to have my name in a game pass me by ever again. Judging by the two responses in this thread, this sounds like it probably won't go through.
  4. Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire

Elite: Dangerous By: Frontier Developments Type: Video game about: This is a project to make another Elite game Why You Should Care: I honestly don't know. It has trading. 5. DOTA 2

Okay, I just got a DOTA 2 code from Doug (thanks, Doug!) and now I want to quickly become a superior master of DOTA 2. If you could give me just one piece of advice on how to quickly become one, what would it be? Just jump in? Read up first? On what? Where? Where do I start? Do I have to read this whole thread?
  6. Windows 8

Hilarious «Windows 8 is coming» Game of Thrones meme image. I just ran the Win8 upgrade assistant thing on my computer, and it let me buy a Pro license key for almost nothing (It's 25 dollars, and, amazingly, it's almost exactly that in my Norwegian socialist kroners, which, when you're used to Steam, feels pretty sweet.) After receiving the key, I interrupted the process and ran it again, and it let me buy another one. It never told me the type of license it was (full, PC builder's thing, non-working and invalid), and I guess I could run it a couple more times if I needed additional licenses, though the offer expires January 31st. It appears to phone home a whole lot, so I'm trusting Microsoft not to let me do something wrong here with regard to my current license. You can buy the license(s) by heading to http://windows.micro...-US/windows/buy, downloading and running the assistant. I don't think I'll actually use the license until I get a new PC next year (for SimCity) so I guess I'll find out if I made a fool of myself then. If it sounds like I've been a secret Microsoft Windows 8 sleeper spam bot all this time, just remember: Microsoft would never say piss fuck shit. edit: Oh, and I guess I should say I would be pretty excited for Windows 8 if it hadn't been for what seems like a transition to this new touch interface performed with a thoroughness and confidence that probably isn't warranted. I really like what they did with Windows 7, and I'm looking forward to them taking a lot of that stuff even further (like the new file operation dialogs, etc.) and I think the idea of building proper touch support into the core of the OS is a smart move and a no-brainer. I'm not convinced ripping out the start menu at this point is the best move, though. It's cool to, for once, see Microsoft being really confident about a big change, all Apple-like, tearing out old stuff and saying «all right, this is the way it's gonna be,» but I'm afraid they're introducing some serious annoyances to me, the regular, non-touch PC user. I'm guessing a lot of you have played around with, or used in anger, Windows 8 on your home/work computer. What do you think? Is the Metro a pain in the ass?
  7. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I finished the Boyle party mission last night, and the game really starts to shine once you become comfortable with the more fuzzy and vague mechanics. I still think the game could benefit from some polish in this area. I've had bodies weirdly disappearing, and sound cues out of nowhere that make it sound like something important has happened. Also, when I did the duel and they still were all «omg he's dead!»
  8. Blog advice

What were you trying to do? Looks like Wordpress tried to do a thing and then something returned 404.
  9. BioShock Infinite

    THANK YOU!
  10. Blog advice

Fuck books, man, movies are where it's at. I would be swagging jugs of Cristal and have gold diggers all over my million dollar jacuzzi in my hummer limo outside my LA mansion if it hadn't been for that asshole George Lucas. Me and my AFTRA ad-pub team was this close to brokering a greenlight for a one-hander dramedy/feevee that would have me up to my Montecristi in payola, and then he fucks me in the ass. This city, man ... This city.
  11. Blog advice

I use tumblr to power my «People in front of big pictures of themselves» image blog, and it gets over a hundred million hits a week without a problem.
  12. Blog advice

    Yeah.
  13. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Well, some of the acronyms are.
  14. Beneath a Steel Sky II

If you followed the Broken Sword Kickstarter, you probably noticed that: The last stretch goal, at one million dollars, was «greenlighting Beneath a Steel Sky II,» whatever that means, and, They didn't reach that goal. Also, you've probably heard that, strangely, They still greenlit Beneath a Steel Sky II I guess it undermines the stretch goals, and is in a way disingenuous, even though anyone who did back the Kickstarter (or increased their pledge) in an attempt to reach that goal now get what they wanted after all ... I don't know what to make of it. The gut gamer in me, the one that always wants more, more, more and loves when sequels to games I love are announced, is super happy about this. I really loved the original Beneath a Steel Sky, and I'm really excited to get to see more of that world, more of those characters and more of that game. The rational, tweed-wearing sophisticated gamer in me scoffs at all sequels, and would prefer Revolution to spend their resources creating something new and experimental and smokes a pipe. So there are now three old-school point and click adventures being created by known, non-German point-and-click studios: BASS II (I'm assuming it will be point and click, though I don't think that's been confirmed,) Broken Sword 5 and DFA. With Telltale having revived and in some ways modernised the genre for me, I'm pretty happy with how the next couple of years are looking, point-and-click-adventure-wise. Oh, and I loved the voices in the BASS talkie version. FIGHT

The camera pans out to reveal ... It was Firefox on Windows 7 all along! And a bonus sighting of the rare «stretched avatar»!

  18. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I noticed today that when you blink through someone, they go like «uurgh.» Also, I noticed that I've now completed three missions, and haven't had any problems with getting inadvertent kills registered or anything like that. From what I gather my non-killing achievement will be somewhat hampered by affiliating with these two characters ( ), and I'll have to do some crazy sequence of sleep-darting, running and closing doors at one point to avoid triggering something that registers as a kill. I haven't read up on the details to avoid spoilers, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, could you please tell me if I need to prepare for this in some way? Will it be clear when I have to do this "trick"?
  19. The Walking Dead

I think Telltale are doing this weird thing where, every time they start a new series or season of a game, they turn down the sound quality, and then gradually turn it it back up. I expect that the first thing that'll strike me when starting The Walking Dead Season 2 is that «hey, this sounds like shit!» ANYWAY, any word of episode 5? Sometime in November, probably?
  20. Life

I can confirm that the red dotted rectangle were added in post to accentuate a mid-jiggle rendering issue.
  21. Disney buys Lucasfilm

I now have a few questions: Can this possibly change anything drastically? And please, don't read that in a rhetorical, cynical tone – I really don't know much about the history and politics of these companies. Is some huge barrier gone, or does some huge possibility now present itself, other than the shuffling about of presidents, bosses and directors? edit: Okay, so George Lucas does no longer control Star Wars like he did? Any chance of something interesting happening with video games?
  22. Life

I bet it's that Scott Forstall's fault. Jonathan Ive's gonna fix that right up, I bet.
