  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Okay, so I gave up on the show mid-way through last season because it was just a bunch of boring people talking and arranging weird fighting matches surrounded by toothless zombies. Is it very different at this point?
  2. Spelunky!

Is this what you do in Spelunky?
  3. DOTA 2

75->600?! You gotta be kidding me! Those fucking pieces of shit are ruining DOTA2. Nice going nazi valve.
  4. Also backed. Glad they're using UE4, too. My impression is it's the best looking of the middlewares (correct me if I'm wrong.) I'm a bit worried about the lack of details or pledge levels – it seems a little scarce for over a million. Hopefully they've been reading up on hot Kickstarter strats, so they'll release nuggets of info to keep all the news sites interested.
  5. The threat of Watch Dogs

Have they said anything about why they're delaying? I wonder if they saw GTA V 5 and decided they needed to make their city more interesting.
  6. Beyond: Two Souls

Just finished it, and it's a confirmed turd. Whatever interesting parts the game has are completely eclipsed by the really bad stuff, of which there is some, and the plain mediocre, which comprises more than 90 percent of the game. Some of it is the obvious limitations of the technology. There's some fantastic facial animation and some great textures in there, but it never consistently shines. Especially towards the end it almost felt like I was playing a hurriedly thrown together PS2 game – lots of big, empty rooms with a handful of assets copied around. The one-word dialogue choices were often hard to understand, none of the mechanics were any fun, the quality of the textures, acting, animation and pacing fluctuated wildly. Just like Cage's other games, the best parts are the ones where you're in a non-fantastical setting, doing non-fantastical things with non-fantastical characters. Nothing in Beyond comes close to stuffing bloody sheets in cupboards with a police officer pounding on your door in Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Highlight: Homelessly sitting on a bench next to a guy reading the paper. The headline says something about the Origami Killer, and I know at least someone is doing something interesting in this city.
  7. Beyond: Two Souls

I'm finishing it just so I can say it's a huge piece of shit with complete confidence. Heavy Rain was so much better than this garbage.
  8. Idle Thanksgiving

I'm unironically thankful for this forum full of cool people and great friends to have a good time with!
  9. Beyond: Two Souls

Oh my god why am I even playing this.
  10. Spelunky!

Is there a secret Idle Thumbs club of Spelunky players? Whenever I «finish» a daily challenge, there's one friend on the list.
  11. Beyond: Two Souls

This feels exactly like Heavy Rain in the way it looks, controls and flows from scene to scene. There's some of the cool illusion of «what if I hadn't done that?» potential for branching, but on the occasions I've tried to walk off the invisible path the game pretty abruptly picks me up and sets me straight. There's a lot of cuts of the character stopping, considering how ridiculous it would be to walk around that corner or over to the people hanging out in the background or whatever, and then turn around. I'm not very far in yet, but the best parts so far have been when you
  12. The (Video Game Music) Nostalgia Thread

Holy shit, I found this Spotify playlist, and it has so much video game music: Video Game Music. I keep scolling down to find stuff I would never expect on Spotify, like the LBA 1 & 2 soundtracks, all the Myst and Sims and Sim City music, Bioshock, Silent Hill, a lot of GTA stuff, Commandos, Red Dead Redemption, Dust, Sleeping Dogs, so much Halo, The Last of Us, Monaco, Mafia 2 and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X 2.
  13. That's the thing – the pre-rendered games were all beautiful, but of course they can't do pre-rendered today because most people are garbage and would complain, so they did Realmyst and Uru, which weren't the most beautiful things but looked fine. Now that they can pick sweet graphics middleware, they'll be able to realize their wildest dreams! Just look at something like Brothers, which is a goddamn beautiful-looking game, thanks to modern middleware. Middleware, middleware, MIDDLEWARE, MIDDLEWARE!!
  14. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

Well that was fun, even though certain people joined late, left early or never joined at all. I feel like the episodes multiplayer fun is quickly exhausted, though. Of course they couldn't let us play GTA race with all those cool new vehicles!
  15. Kickstarter is making some pretty extreme policy changes in an effort to return to its roots, i.e. more supporting exciting projects, and less buying a 200 unit shop stands. It's not retroactive, but I guess there will be uproar, discussions and edge cases even a lot of projects currently in the pipeline.
  16. Half-Life 3

It seems very possible that, even if they didn't intend to make it publicly available, they would have a project called Half-Life 3 in there even if just as a joke. If they use it like a lot of people use internal tracking systems, there's bound to be a bunch of joke data in there. Also, I'd like to know more about this; how did people discover it was open, and how much data was visible?
  17. GTA V

The third triathlon is brutal. Over 28 minutes of continuous sprinting, and some spots where it's obvious they want you to try to take a shortcut and fall over a trashcan.
  18. Breaking Bad

    I still feel bad they
  19. GTA ONLINE

But... but I thought that didn't work.
  20. GTA ONLINE

What the– Did you change it, or did you get someone to do it for you?
  21. GTA ONLINE

    «GTA Online»
  22. GTA ONLINE

Nooooo, the thread title is wrong! Also, I'm not going to be done with the single player for a while, which will hopefully give them time to sort out the crazy server issues that are bound to arise. I wonder if they did the iFruit app development themselves, or had someone external do it. If Rockstar made it, I hope it's not at all indicative of the quality of their online service.
  23. GTA V

That whole post was just me trying to be ironically funny and coming off as an idiot. I don't actually believe people are «pussies» (a term I'm uncomfortable with and am not entirely sure what means) for using the GPS trail (or for playing video games on easy, an setting even I, a cool gamer, must confess to having used several times.) I prefer playing without GPS trails just because it gives me some small amount of satisfaction to force myself to learn the lay of the land and the road network, since knowing how best to get around a make-believe city is something every adult person should strive for and take pride in. So yeah, I don't think anyone here would call anyone a pussy for anything, except Lu, who will call anyone one for playing flight sims without a sweet-ass HOTAS.
  24. GTA V

Did I mention how bad helicopter controls are? I've gotten gold on all the flight school missions except the shitty helicopter speed run, and it's driving me crazy because obviously I have to get a gold medallion. I haven't had to maneuver a helicopter for mission purposes yet, but it seems like the most awful experience. It's like someone forgot a syringe with drugs and alcohol in the pilot's seat. The worst thing isn't the controls directly, though, it's what the camera does when you try to actually fucking land on the fucking thing and there's only a few seconds left and no don't turn away now please god damn it just point at the thing point at the FUCKING THING I'M TRYING TO LAND ON YOU USELESS PIECE OF FUCKING SHITTTTTTTTT. Other than that though, I've had a blast. First thing I did was turn off the GPS trail, which is a feature for pussies. Whenever I'm going somewhere I take a look at the map and plot a general course, and then I use my sense of direction and knowledge of the city to get around. It's remarkably satisfying going from not knowing where anything is, to knowing the larger landmarks and general areas to finally knowing specific roads and places. I never skip to any location either, forcing myself to either drive or take a cab to wherever I'm going, which always leads to interesting stuff happening, like causing a horrible accident or coming upon one of the many random encounters. Though I was skeptical of the improved vehicle handling they touted ahead of release, I'm really happy with how it turned out. Just like in GTA IV, all vehicles have a different feel to them, and they all handle like you would expect.
  25. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

    I'm up for it tomorrow.
