  1. Fucking PC gaming!

I found a weird possible solution to my General Protection Fault errors that I got with Steam's Supreme Commander 2 demo and Arkham Asylum. Apparently I would need to install the Nvidia PhysX driver to the computer even though I have an Ati GPU now. Have to try this when I get back home. EDIT: Holy crap, I stopped at home during my lunch break and actually installed the PhysX. Weirdly it actually worked! Arkham Asylum runs on max settings with 1650x1080 without problems. I unistalled Supreme Commander 2 demo already, but I bet it will work also as it uses PhysX too. Weird solution that Nvidia driver works with a Ati card, I doubt it actually uses the PhysX features, more so the game just needs the driver to start. Which is a bad decision in my opinion.
  2. Wasn't the history something like this that some company stole the domain sometime in 2001/2002? Around a time when the domain ownership subscription was supposed to be renewed? Then the site was reborn as Adventure Gamers with the added s in the end. Hahah, I have the gif of that somewhere still I guess. A true internet classic. Oh man, it has been years since I last saw that vid. Epic.

Haven't tested a lot yet, but I did try Far Cry 2 and it runs perfectly on max details. I've got some problems getting Arkham Asylum started again, I think it's got something to do with the PhysX now that I changed the card from Nvidia to Ati. I tried changing the settings but the game refuses to start. Next ones I will test are Ghostbusters and Riddick. Also I got the Supreme Commander 2 demo from Steam that I will try out.
  4. Far Cry 2

I haven't had time to play Far Cry 2 in a long time. But I did test it during the weekend with the new Radeon HD 5770. What used to be almost smoothly playable with medium details is now completely smooth and super awesome looking with max details and 1650x1080 resolution. Almost makes me want to start the game from scratch and have another go at it.

I happened to watch Super Mario Bros after ten or so years since last seeing it. Holy crap it's bad. It's so bad that it's actually just bad. Nothing funny about it. Mario Mario and Luigi "John Leguizamo" Mario. Nice nice.
  6. Fucking PC gaming!

Thanks for the advices, I'm going for the Radeon HD 5770 1GB card. I got them to take all my old crap hardware and gave me quite a good deal. I wouldn't have bothered to sell these separetely so this is really the easy and nice way to get rid off the old stuff.
  7. Fucking PC gaming!

Due to me having some extra gear in reserve that I really would like to trade and get rid off, which graphics card do you think is better from the following? Nvidia GTX260 or Ati 5770? I'm going to trade some old crap and my SLI setup of two 1gb 8600GT cards and pay something in between I guess to get one of the two cards that I'm asking about. In my town there's one shop that trades old stuff to new stuff. I have always had Nvidia before, but Ati looks interesting. I have one bottleneck and that is my 500W power supply.
  8. Just Cause 2

I got the same crap from trying the demo out. I have XP at the moment temporarily due to hardware testings, but I've been meaning to install my new 750GB harddrive and put 7 again.

My wife tried to talk me into going to a Kendo course in my town. It's really expensive, but would be fun to try. How much does the courses cost in the Netherlands? My wife used to practise Kendo when she was younger in Kanagawa so she would propably beat me totally if we went to this course. The outfit looks really cool.

I think it was the original as running time was about 1h 48m, but why is IMDB saying that the theatrical cut is supposed to be 1h 53m? How bad is the director's cut? It seems to be 20 minutes longer?
  11. Mini Thumbs meet?

Thanks to Google Street View I now remember the place, O'Neill's at High Street, Winchester.
  12. Interesting stuff that might get you laid.

This I saw in a Finnish travel program by two Madventurers. Yeah, that's the amazing bit around here. It's crazy that during winter it's dark when I go to work and when I leave from work it's dark again. So I miss all the sunlight. Funny thing is that we don't even get D vitamin from the sunlight enough in Finland that much, only during the brief, but nice summer period.

The Easter holidays gave me time to watch a couple of movies again. I watched Alien 3, but was highly annoyed by the computer graphics Alien that looked so horrifyingly bad. I guess this is what happens to older movies that used computer graphics after time passes on. The cgi Alien looked really bad. Otherwise the movie is good, back to the more horror roots of the franchise. The movie had those FPS moments with showing stuff from the Alien's eyes, I had no real problems with that, but one of my friends said that he felt it did not fit in to the franchise to suddenly show stuff from the Alien's eyes as that had not been done before and the Alien should be in the shadows as silent hunter. Other movie we watched was one that I've been meaning to watch for years already. Donnie Darko. Now that was one weird movie featuring the young Prince of Jerry Bruckheimer's Persia.
  14. Mini Thumbs meet?

Oh I would, if I could. As a side note, I need to tell my interesting experiences in a UK pub. I was once thrown out of a pub in Winchester in 2006 when I was attending the university there as a guest. The most interesting thing is that we didn't even drink in the pub, me and two ladies went there to just eat in the middle of the day and we had eaten there before. The bartender wanted to see our ID's for some reason and did not approve a Finnish driving license, EU personnel ID card OR a Finnish passport as an official ID. We were all around 22-24 years old so way over the drinking age limit. I guess this guy just had a problem with our faces or something. The regular bartender there was never a bastard, as he was cool always and he looked really a lot like Chris Remo. Too bad he was not there during this one particular time...

One of my friends told me that Burn Notice is a good show. Has anybody watched it before? I've been meaning to watch the first season at some point, I think they've made three seasons so far. One interesting actor in the series is Bruce Campbell.

Well, the reason I like Aliens is that it's actually very typical 80's action movie and I love 80's cheesy action movies. Also now that I actually watched Aliens again last night with my wife, I noticed that there are a lot of similarities how Cameron handled the army soldiers in this one and in Avatar. I think the last time I saw Aliens was propably 10 years ago. Cameron uses the robot suit in this one and he used similar kind of mech suits in Avatar. Aliens is a really campy comedic take on the Alien franchise. I like it because of the very cheesy dialogue and that he basically upped the amount of the Aliens so in this they become cannon fodder. "Game over man, game over!" Bill Paxton is such a whiny grunt in this movie. It's true that Aliens is not really scary at all, when compared to all the other Alien movies, one big factor is that there are so many Aliens in this one that it loses the scary factor. Basically the only scary bit for me when I watched this as a teen for the first time was

Last night we watched Alien. I'm a bit shamed to admit but I had never seen it before. I have seen all the sequels many times in the past years. This movie was really great, I'm a fan of John Hurt and he really was great in this one, also Ian Holm was really good as Ash. It's clearly my favourite of the four, but I still like Cameron's Aliens also which is next on my list to rewatch. "Game over man!" There was one weird scene in the movie, this was the director's cut version that we watched so I don't know how it looks in the original version.
  18. The whole crime attempt sounds like from an early 90's hollywood movie. Something like The Net with Sandra Bullock. Life is not like the movies.
  19. Life

Came back from Canada last wednesday. It was an awesome trip and I can say that everything I had imagined about Canada was basically true. It's a really cool country and I could actually live there some day. The trip was just too short, in six days it's impossible to really see anything and with the insanely tight schedule it was very hard to really get a good picture of the cities. Trip was basically like this in six days: Montreal-Toronto-Kingston-Brockville-Ottawa Montreal was cool, I liked the "small town" athmosphere even though most people spoke French, it was still ok to manage with English. We drove around the Gilles Villeneuve Formula 1 track during the night and during the day and had a blast! Toronto really felt like a metropolis, big city with skyscrapers everywhere in the city centre and all the time new buildings popping up and under construction. Visited the Air Canada Centre and the Hockey Hall of Fame there. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, at least I believe so. Ottawa was propably the best of the three. I absolutely loved the old part of Ottawa that had the marketplace and lots and lots of small shops everywhere. I'm really pissed that we wasted some time and missed the Museum of Civilization. Also I got to meet Kara Scott and Mike Sexton in Toronto, that was super fun. Definitely going back to Canada someday, hopefully for a longer visit. I also met in the airplane an older Canadian woman who gave me a business card from Whitehorse in Yukon. Also one place to visit in the future as that place sounds really fascinating.
  20. The Whispered World - 23 April

I was really excited about this project back in the Bad Brain days when I first heard about The Whispered World. The background art looks gorgeous, but I have a feeling about this in the same way like I had with Gilbert Goodmate years ago. The background art looks high quality, but the voice acting and the character animation is really not up to the same level as the backgrounds...

Finally got back to the movie train. Watched two movies during the weekend. First I watched Detroit Metal City with my wife on her request. That was so weird and still extremely funny movie. It tells a story about a japanese guy who wants to sing corny pop songs and become famous, but ends up as the singer of a death metal band against his own will. Second we watched The Producers by Mel Brooks. I had never seen this before and it was quite late in the evening so my wife actually started sleeping in the middle of it as she was really tired. The movie was really great comedy. It started slowly but as it progressed further I started noticing all those great Mel Brooks moments everywhere. I even saw him pop up in the screen to say a few sentences in the scene where the theatre play starts. I'm really happy that I finally saw the movie, I didn't actually know that the production company originally didn't want to release this at all. Only after Peter Sellers told the production company boss that this is a great comedy movie they released the movie, with a changed name, heh.
  22. Fallout 3

I was re-listening to the conf grenade and Steve was talking about a German town in Fallout 3. Where was it? I think I missed it completely.
  23. Mice for gamers.

The only headset I've had for the past 10 years or so is a Sony headset which I bought for about 200-300 finnish marks. 30-50 euros.
  24. Spelunky!

I have just played a little bit of Spelunky but not that much. My friends have played insane amounts of Spelunky. It's a very nice game and I've been excited about Spelunky, Knytt Stories and Cave Story quite a lot recently. It's like a comeback of old style games that still have a modern feeling.
  25. Cave Story

I hope that in April or May Europe will get to play Cave Story also.
