Yes, I've got a mediocre Samsung HDTV that has got all kinds of plug options, and so far I have tested it with a VGA cable plugged to the VGA box and to the tv. This way I have not had any sound of course. The sound I could use through the headphones with the 3,5mm plug, but I would like to connect it so that I can use it through the home theater like the Wii etc. So I think I need some kind of audio cables and then I'm set. My VGA box is also a 3rd party version bought from eBay. I have noticed from my collection that something like 95% of the games support 480p, but then again only a couple of games support widescreen... I also have Toy Commander, I need to test all the games very soon. I've got around 15-20 DC games that I bought years ago.

One month after GTA:CW I have completed finally Batman: Arkham Asylum. Took me about two months in real life time I think. Completion percentage was 74% My plan was not to that many Riddler statues, but in the end I actually collected something like 155/250 statues. I got 18/20 upgrades and I think from the character profiles I got 31/40? This was an awesome game for a comics nut like me. I've always loved DC comics, especially Batman and Superman. Holy crap if the same developer would someday make a game about Superman and succeed with it as much as with Batman. There has never been a good Superman game, only one mediocre arcade game and one mediocre SNES game about the death and return of Superman. Then bunch of horrible crap like Superman 64 and Superman Returns games. Batman Arkham Asylum was my game of the year 2009. I knew already after just playing 30 minutes in autumn at a friend's place and now after playing the whole game by myself, the goty prize is even more sure. Next stop FarCry 2 and Ghostbusters.

I wish they would've put this much effort on the first special edition. Chance to play the first one with original graphics and voices would be cool, and would've been cool to hear Ron's, Tim's and Dave's thoughts on the first game as well.

So that's propably already most of the important guys in the IW team.

I've been taking a break from movies now. I have mostly been watching season one of Madventures. Hilarious and great backpacker show from couple of Finnish guys. The first season was made around 2001/2002.

Holy crap! That would be cool, but further reading tells me it's an april fools joke?

Oh how I wish that Frédérick Raynal would make a comeback to Video game business and make a new LBA game. The rights limbo is from hell. That limbo is keeping many legendary games from coming back "from the dead". Holy crap, I didn't know that his company was the company that made Time Commando, that was a cool game! Does anyone what is this unnamed project that he is working on with Ubisoft?

I have watched his show sometimes when I had the pay channel that shows it here in Finland. I've also seen him countless times in Conan O'Brien's shows and he is a funny guy. I don't think him as a pretentious douche. He undestands to make jokes about himself.

I would like to trade some old Wii and DS games to this or NSMBWii/Mario Kart Wii at one local shop. This looks really cool, but I doubt I would have the time to invest into the multiplayer part. I also don't have a Wii Speak...

RPS thoughts on Plain Sight: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/04/22/wot-i-think-plain-sight/ Top Gun with Samurai Robots. Is the best way to play this game by wearing the Idle Thumbs Top Gun themed t-shirt?

So I went and bought the Deus Ex collection. I have the first one as a boxed copy and the second one I've only played as a demo years ago. The whole pack was only 5 euros so why not, it's just way too cheap.

Gizmodo revealed the new iPhone that some guy apparently forgot in a bar in the USA, but to me this feel like a pr stunt by Apple. It's just the conspiracy theorist in me that thinks so. Anyway, looks kind of interesting and also looks like it's the real thing.

All old flight sims and games like the original Alone in the Dark had really awesome extra stuff in the package and big manuals. For really old games I have a certain special value for all the stuff the developers put in to the boxes as extra, but these days I don't care that much anymore. No developers or production companies care anymore to put extra money on extra stuff as they want to maximize the earnings from game development and sales. If they do put extra stuff sometimes, then it comes out as some Collector's edition that costs 50% more or so. That's why Steam is very good, it's easy to buy games from there and you save shelf space at your home, but I agree with Miffy as I too miss the old times a lot when you really got a lot of stuff in addition to the game itself when you bougt the box and everything. I think it was the end of the 90's when things started changing. After that the only manuals were in pdf form or some crummy A4 printout or few pages of black&white quick install guide. This is true as in a small box there's not that much space to put the extra stuff in. I do have to congratulate Telltale about the amazing extras they have brought with each series season boxes. Of course you do have to pay more to get the stuff if you want it, but I guess that's how the business works these days. You don't get anything for free.

Has anyone watched the remake of the V series? Seems like are really using some cheap looking computer graphics on the backgrounds all the time. Most of the show seems to be filmed in front of a green screen. I think it was on 3-4 month hiatus in the USA and has started again. They are also bringing it to Europe as the Finnish pay channels started showing it. The new show has made me really want to watch the original show from the 80's. I never saw it completely as my family thought it's too horrifying for me to watch.

Weeell, I'm supposed to go to Japan in July, but that three months away so I think all the transportations will be working normally by then. Would be cool to be on vacation somewhere right now, I heard some Finnish people got free hotels etc. from the travel agencies because the return flights were cancelled.

All the airports in Finland seem to be closed right now as far as I know. Mass panic! Mass hysteria! We are all going do die! Well, in other news I heard that they are starting to continue flying in few days even if there is ash and gas and all that shit in the air. I guess the poor airplane companies can't afford taking too much losses from cancelled flights.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 6: Shoveling Your Hat and Crow
Kolzig replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Have to download it later when I get home. I'll listen to it during tomorrow. -
I don't remember how it was exactly, but if it is so then it could be that this game could serve as a prequel to the first games. I mean, the main protagonist could be just an FBI agent doing regular mission or two in the beginning and then get suddenly in the middle of things when all hell breaks out when the "unknown enemy" comes marching in on Earth. Then after that we could get more into the classic X-Com way with the micromanagement and base building and researching when he/she is drafted to the organisation. That way actually the game could be your regular FPS in the beginning and then evolve into something unique. I'd certainly hope something like that.

Interesting decision to take a game franchise best known for turnbased strategy games to fps territory. X-Com Enforcer and the cancelled Alliance of course comes to mind, but I bet this won't go the same way. I'm not superhappy that Ufo/X-Com is going the fps way, but as this is just the first announcement it will be interesting to see how this project develops. Nothing bad against Steve Gaynor and the other people in 2K Marin, but I had hoped that Ken Levine's team takes over the X-Com return like it had been hyped and rumored for so long already. Good luck and I hope you guys and gals make a worthy sequel to the classic franchise. I really want to play a good new game from the franchise. It went downwards really quickly with Interceptor and Hasbro's Enforcer. Hopefully there will come new information in the upcoming months. It would be cool to have Julian Gollop as consultant on the project. EDIT: I hope they keep all the management stuff in the game, especially the research and base building was very core of the first games. The one thing I loved about the first game was that you could build the first base anywhere in the world, it felt like you had total freedom to make your own choices and not be stopped by invisible walls that try to guide you. EDIT2: It's a bit too weird and typical internet behaviour to study too much a short press release and two pictures, but the main protagonist is an FBI agent? I thought it was supposed to be X-Com, a global organisation? Maybe the main character becomes one?

Heheh, that's funny as swedish salt candy isn't even that strong. But yeah, people outside Finland and Sweden don't really like salt candy, liquorice or salmiac that much... I have now gross tales like that, but a similar knee incident happend to my brother about 20 years ago that happened to Thompson

elmuerte, thanks for the very specific and good explanation. I had no idea about that.

I have no real proof, but I'm pretty sure that for various reasons Ubisoft owns many former Brøderbund releasing rights. Maybe also for The Last Express. Once Interplay also had the rights to re-release the game, is Interplay still around? I thought they closed doors? I have the original Last Express boxed copy in possession, but as I'm a failure I have never played it. The idea that the game might resurface as a movie is extremely exciting. I have a huge respect towards Paul Verhoeven, he has directed many of my favourite movies like Total Recall and Robocop.
