  1. Alan Wake

Machinima has also put the episodes up in Youtube with HD quality. I have watched all the four so far, it's VERY Twin Peaks as in not making much sense at all. Two episodes left I think? Total will be six episodes?
  2. Backlog Busters

Hmm, yeah... my backlog is so big that I don't really even want to think about it. I propably never reach the point where I have played all my backlog games, but here goes... this is a kind of quicklist. Games that I have in my "near future" backlog list: Far Cry 2 (Haven't played this at all in about two months now) Ghostbusters (Also haven't played this in a long time, I think I'm in the third mission now) Braid Chronicles of Riddick & Assault on Dark Athena (Bought from Steam, haven't played yet, though I did play Butcher Bay through originally) The Conduit (90% through, one more mission and this is done) Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for Wii Around 10 other games for Wii Various stuff I bought from Steam sales Secret of Monkey Island special edition The following games I don't know when I can get to these: Bunch of Dreamcast games, now that I have the system up and running again Sam&Max Season 1&2 (I have played until 1x04 a long time ago) Tales of Monkey Island Dreamfall Beyond Good & Evil (Never completed it, have to start from the beginning again with this one) Many big boxes full of old PC games that I bought and collected until 2006 A box full of Amiga games A box full of Commodore 64 games A box full of Sega Saturn games Totally forgot that I have a bunch of DS games that are waiting to be played also
  3. Alan Wake

Sam Lake said already when the project was announced years ago that Twin Peaks is one of the main influences of Alan Wake. Twin Peaks has always been really big in Finland. People love that show.
  4. I shoot things with my Wii

So, Sin&Punishment 2 got released in Europe. Has anyone had the chance to play it? I heard that in UK both S&P 2 and Monster Hunter Tri failed to make the top 20 sold games week chart. PS. I bought the Umbrella Chronicles for Wii some time ago, haven't had much time yet to play it. I loaned The Conduit from my friend and I'm almost through that now, it was kind of a side project for me as I'm supposed to be playing Far Cry 2 and Ghostbusters...
  5. E3 2010

Nintendo should be pretty big on E3 announcements this year. Finally the new Kirby game should make an appearance for the Wii apparently. I'm waiting to hear new info on Golden Sun DS also, I haven't heard anything about that in a long time, since last E3 actually. I would like Reggie to take the stage instead of the unbelievably boring Cammie Dunaway. I think Reggie is ready to kick some ass again.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I felt pretty much the same as Rodi and tm_drummer. The effects were nicely done and it was a very typical summer movie. I had a weird weekend, I watched some old and some new action movies. Ironman 2 on saturday evening and also during the weekend I watched Stallone's old Cobra from 1985. I had first wanted to see this ultraviolent movie when I was 8 years old and I saw the VHS tape box of the movie at a friend's place. It took me 20 years to see it, but I finally did it. One might think that why an 8 year old could even have this movie on video, but that's just how it is. I also watched Universal Soldier: Renegeration, just to see JCVD and Dolph Lundgren in an old school action movie done in 2009.
  7. Alan Wake

I personally think that it could work as an open world game, but considering Remedy's resume, the game works perfectly as a tightly scripted game. I loved Death Rally, I loved the Max Payne games. I would love Alan Wake, but only if it would come to PC. Oh man, now that I finally have a great PC that I could only dream about in my wildest dreams 4-5 years ago, then I can't play this. Well, as I said I have to believe that the PC version will come out eventually, even as shitty port I would propably get it on day one... I heard that the game does have those tv shows again, hopefully with the developers themselves again "acting" the shows.
  8. Alan Wake

Thanks Quanta for pulling this up from the thread pile. Here's the video I posted almost 4 years ago to start this thread: Damn you Remedy, there you were putting the demo in a PC monster machine powered by Intel multicore processor and then you pulled a 180 on us when Microsoft came with the money trucks... The game was supposed to be a totally open sandbox world originally in the style of GTA and have all kinds of crazy stuff happening, but I think they downsized quite a lot the original idea during the development when PC platform was dumped and killed with a rusty blade. I'm still hoping of course that in one year's time Alan will wake up on PC. I have read only one preview and that was Kotaku's. I've watched video reviews from GameTrailers and IGN. I would really want to play this, but I will not on Xbox360. I don't have it and I will not buy it for just Alan Wake and Brütal Legend.
  9. Anybody Played...?

The Amiga was the best games machine in it's time. When you look at the dictionary for the word awesome, there's a picture of Commodore Amiga there.
  10. Hands on Deathspank

Also even though he has left Hothead, he is still promoting the game now before it will be released. So it's not like he has abandoned the project now that it's practically finished and ready. I really wish he has some new project in his mind already, also I hope that publishers will be more open to his ideas.
  11. Starcraft 2

  12. Movie/TV recommendations

Heh, yeah. I'm lost with words with that movie. It was quite shocking in all possible ways.
  13. Hands on Deathspank

Yes, I would bet so. I'm pretty sure he made a lot of money when Humongous was sold. They had some nice games coming up there at the sub company Cavedog Entertainment. Too bad that almost none of them came to be finalized. Most of the kids adventure games did at Humongous and those were nice, I did play Spy Fox. They had some sweet fps game that was blowing my mind with just the premise and screenshots, I don't remember anything about it anymore. Also Ron's Good & Evil looked really cool in the 2-3 screenshots that I saw of it in some old PC Gamer. Thankfully at least Chris Taylor's Total Annihilation came out. That game ate up all my free time back in the day. I still need to play TA:Kingdoms, even though it's not even nearly as good game. I have this feeling that he doesn't really work at all, except recently with the Penny arcade advisor role and project leading Deathspank. EDIT: Heh, I was searching the net to try to find the pics Kingz is talking about and I found this guy Doug Williams' webpage where he lists as having worked 1998-2001 on Ron Gilbert's Good & Evil at Cavedog Entertainment. :-) Even more interestingly, this Doug worked later at Beep Industries that was founded by Clayton Kauzlaric, who is actually the co-creator of Deathspank! Kauzlaric also worked at Cavedog. EDIT 2: Holy crap, I didn't know that Shelley Day was sentenced to prison. No wonder Hulabee Entertainment kind of disappeared from the map. I think they had only one game that I actually considered buying years ago. That was also a kids adventure game.
  14. Floppy-tastic.

I have two big cases full of old 3,5" floppies. I haven't used those in years. I wonder what the hell I should do with those. I still have a floppy drive in my computer case, but it's not connected to the power supply. There's a bunch of magical games from the old times when people copied games to each other all the time. Around the era when I was 10-12 years old. Sometimes I wonder did anybody ever even buy old PC or Amiga games as most seemed to move as copies on nameless floppies.
  15. Hands on Deathspank

Ron has been joking all the time about the PC release. I think it will come to it, but propably not at the same time as the others. I'll buy it for PC. Great to see Ron's next awaited project ready for gamers to enjoy soon.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

Those Rockstar offers seemed to last only for a few hours.
  17. Life

In Finland the master's degree is for free. You don't need to pay any entry fees etc., that's why there are hundreds of foreign students in my small town every year at our university.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

I watched yesterday American History X. I thought first that I've never seen it before, but after watching I have strong beliefs that I have actually seen it once before, but a long time ago. Next Saturday is Iron Man 2 time.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Interesting point is that I will go see PoP anyway, even if I think it is not going to be that good. It's the Mechner connection that makes me want to see it.
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Ironman 2 is coming 5th May to Vaasa so I'll be going to check it out during next week most likely. Start of the summer Hollywood movies. 5th May Ironman 2 12th May Robin Hood 19th May Jerry Bruckheimer's Prince of Persia I have a strong feeling that Prince of Persia will be crap. At least all the trailers make it look like it will be crap and waste of time.
  21. Monkey Island 2: SE

The reason why I'm sad is because I've always liked the first one more than the second Monkey Island.
  22. Infinity Ward - MW2 news

I read on Kotaku that a total of at least 26 employees have left IW now.
  23. Other podcasts

It's not exactly a podcast, but I've been enjoying Matt Barton's Matt Chat. He has a page on Armchairarcade.com The first I noticed his talks was when one of my friends sent me a link to his chat with John Romero. Matt puts up video chats to Youtube and then posts full chats on Armchair Arcade, like Romero chat was about 50 minutes in Youtube, but the actual chat was 2 hours long mp3 that can be downloaded from the webpage. He has cut out his own questions and comments, so it's only the interviewed person that is basically talking. Matt has something set up in iTunes, but at least I couldn't find any files from there.
  24. Well then... After 5-6 years of NOT buying a VGA box, I finally bought one this year. So now my question is, what is the best way to connect it to the tv for audio and video? I have a VGA cable and then I can use the PC setting, but I can't of course hear any sounds. There's a 3,5mm plug on the PC side of the VGA box also. On the TV side there's S-Video plug and 2xRCA connectors for the sound and also one more for the video I guess. I suck at this stuff and I'm hoping that some Thumbs are more familiar with this as all help is very much appreciated. Also, my DC is originally from 2001 and I bought it at some point in 2003, 2004 or 2005 as a used console, I don't remember exactly which year it was. There's a strange problem with it when I put a disc in and power the console up. When the console is normally horizontally level on my tv table, it usually doesn't load up the discs or if it does, the games hang up in the middle of action, mostly in loading screens. This problem I have "fixed" by testing various things, When I lift the console from the backside so it's instead of _ position in a / position. In this position all games load up and work perfectly. I have no idea if the problem is with the laser that reads the discs or what? I have to confess that I have not used my Dreamcast at all in about 2-3 years, it's just been sitting and waiting for the comeback moment which is now. I'm surprised that the fan is a bit loud, but not too much. EDIT: The advantage of the VGA box is to get 480p graphics out of the Dreamcast. Too bad that there are only couple of games that support 16:9 widescreen and most of the games are 4:3 fullscreen games. Michel Ancel's masterpiece Rayman 2 is one of the rare ones that have support for widescreen. I'm very sad that Sega's own big games like Shenmue and Sonic Adventure don't support widescreen...
  25. Dreamcast VGA box and other DC related stuff

I noticed that my tv has a 3,5mm hole next to the VGA plug. I will go today or tomorrow to a electronics shop to buy 1,5 meter cable 3,5mm <-> 3,5mm cable. I will just connect it to the tv, that will be enough for now. My VGA box has that switch between PC and TV setting. I think it's the most common 3rd party VGA box in eBay. I always liked Rayman 2 a lot, I've never tried the widescreen version of it as I always had a normal 4:3 tv during the time the DC was in daily use.
