  1. Life

So, 1,5 weeks ago we came back from Japan. It was quite nice summer vacation. I got one thing off my list that I wanted to do in my life. We visited Hiroshima. I've always wanted to go there. It was a beautiful city, I have deep respect towards the Japanese people how they completely rebuilt the city after the totally useless waste of human lifes that was the atom bomb. We went to the Peace park and I saw the A-Bomb dome as they call it these days, we also visited the museum telling about the history of Hiroshima and especially August 6th 1945 8.15am. That experience was as crushing as I thought it would be. I'm not ashamed to admit that tears came to my eyes there when I saw all the historical data that they saved up there. In my opinion every person in the world should visit this museum at least once. We went also to Itsukushima (Miyajima) island to see the famous Itsukushima shrine and there was a Akira Kurosawa festival on that island as this year it is 100 years from his birth. That day was quite bad because of the weather, everything was gray and foggy. The rain never stopped and it only became worse as time passed. We climbed up to the mountain to see the "eternal flame", but we laughed so much as we got there because the flame was not burning! We took a picture of that as proof. Also the restaurant on top of the mountain was closed so that was fun after travelling a long way in the rain to get there with the purpose of eating and getting some time to warm up while eating. I got a nasty cold because of that day and I'm still suffering from it even if it's three weeks now since we were there. Nikkou was nice also. They have the World Heritage area with lots of old temples. One of the most famous artworks there is the three wise monkeys that are part of the art depicting the human life. It was great to see that with my own eyes. In Nikkou I had the chance for the first time in my life to experience onsen. That felt like I was reborn. It was the most relaxing experience I've ever had. Even better than the Finnish sauna. Tokyo Sky Tree was coming up fast, already 398 meters tall at the time when we were standing next to it. It will be quite a landmark, don't know really why they need it to be built, but I heard some talk about the tower being used for tv/phone/radio signals or something like that. Apparently the old Tokyo Tower is being used for that already now and it's not good enough? Interesting to come back from 35 degrees of sunshine to 15 degrees and rain. Yay Finland! You never disappoint me.
  2. Who do you write like

I wrote some gibberish about happy happy times and suddenly darkness coming and it tells me I write like Stephen King. So I guess that figures as Stephen King writes a lot of cheap crap.
  3. Wizaaaaaards!!

Oh man, A few weeks ago I was travelling with my wife and her parents from Sagamihara to Nikkou 日光市 to see the temples and the famous three monkeys and so much more. While were still relatively close to my wife's parents house, I happened to watch out of the car window and I saw a small house in the middle of city area that said THE WIZARD on big letters! I was so disappointed that my camera wasn't ready, because I just know that house is where The Wizard lives in and I have no photographic proof about it. When we came back, we didn't come the same route so there was no way to take the pic... On the other hand I also saw somewhere between Yokohama and Sagamihara a huge lit red building that said Hotel Mario, but that was apparently a really flashy love hotel. Now I know what Mario and Peach are doing in their freetime.
  4. A very quick survey about car-sharing

Heh, I answered it now also. Hopefully it isn't too late. The question when was your car made is funny, my car is made in 1989 so it's quite far from 2003 (or earlier) which was the last year mentioned.
  5. Horror/Scary movies

The Japanese movie Noroi is propably the scariest movie I've ever seen. I remember having nightmares about that even though I saw it only 1-2 years ago. I know what you did last summer, now that was a typical teen slasher movie from the 90's. That and the million other Scream type teen slasher movies really popped up way too much in that era. I did have that on VHS at some point, because there were selling for 10 Finnish marks shortly after the release of the movie on video. Got rid off it quite fast.
  6. Thi4f

FiveNal? Holy crap that sounds just really bad.
  7. Buying or building a PC

Alright I'll check there. I've been doing some initial check ups on sites like Tom's Hardware.
  8. Happy Birthday!

Happy belated birthday toblix, you Norwegian viking!
  9. Buying or building a PC

Question regarding computer cases. I have had for the past 5 years a Nexus Breeze case and have been pretty happy with it, but I have noticed the need for a new case. Something that has more room inside to work with when doing upgrades etc. and preferably more places for extra fans. Do you guys have any recommendations about good new cases that stay cool and help keeping the computer running silently? I have no idea about the current market situation for cases. There is really no need to change the PSU as that is good enough for now, the only bad thing about is the cables are not detachable like I would've wanted originally.
  10. Summer Steam Sale

Max Payne games play great on PC, they were made for PC and ported to consoles. Both MP games I've owned since day one those were released and those are games that I will not buy double on digital format. I will not put all my gaming library on Steam, at least I hope that will not happen.
  11. Picross 3D

I tried the demo of this from the Wii's Nintendo Channel. Instantly got the feeling that this is highly addictive, but I have no previous experiences about the 2d Picross game. Should think about purchasing it as trip is getting closer and this seems to be fun enough to tinker around in the airplane.
  12. Summer Steam Sale

Damn you Steam sales. Even though I already have dvd boxed version of Darwinia and Defcon, I bought the Introversion pack for five euros, it's a steal! I also bought during the weekend Beyond Good & Evil, even though I also have a boxed copy of that game! Also a steal for 3,34 euros. Last, but not least there is Trine which I had some previous experiences about and decided to now buy also from Steam with four euros! Very much a STEAL!
  13. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Actually I should've waited on the Sam&Max season 3 order to save money instead of pre-ordering the season months ago... oh well, that was lost money now and earned buy Telltale then I guess. I'm still not even done with season 1 so far.
  14. Play.com is messing with my gaming...

I don't buy that many *new* games anymore, my sources are mostly used/on sale games for Wii from auction sites/shops and for PC stuff that I can find from Steam... Play.com is still a lot cheaper than regular shops in Finland, but I really don't like the way they are cheating the non-UK customers with the fixed exchange rate.
  15. Play.com is messing with my gaming...

I dislike play.com these days because of the stupid fixed exchange rate for EUR which never changes and is always at least few euros higher than the actual current exchange rate between GBP and EUR. That's called cheating and nobody is doing anything to stop them, it's been going on for the past couple of years already. Indeed play.com used to be a paradise for European customers, but that was around the 2002-2007 era.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

I finally watched the Watchmen yesterday. It's been a few years since I read the comic book so I didn't remember everything exactly. Way too much slow motion scenes, but that's exactly what I expected from Zack Snyder, "the visionary director". From what I remember it was following the comic book scenes and storyline very carefully. It was better than I expected, as my expectations were very low because of the director and also because Alan Moore's work usually doesn't transform that well to movies.
  17. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Does this qualify? 7CmxI3YkxtA They are showing this weird stuff every day now because of the World Cup.
  18. Life

Cool dogs Kingz! We've had for almost one year now a Chihuahua named Hachi. (yeah, well after seeing Hachiko Monogatari, what other name could I really use...) He sure is a life changer, if I happen to be depressed because of work or something else, that buddy always makes me smile because I have no idea how he can be so much full of energy all the time. I can't really show pictures at the moment, because I don't have any at the moment with me. Got my replacement hard drive finally, now to decide whether I should re-install everything before my summer vacation or not. I think I should wait because I might get a SSD harddrive from Japan during July, that would then become my operating system harddrive. It all depends on the currency exchange rates. Holy crap, I still can't believe that the summer vacation is only nine days away from happening. We are even taking our dog with us even though my mom and my wife's mom said we should leave him to Finland. It's been really a pain to struggle with the authorities for all the required documentation and we are not even done yet, still need to continue fighting next week just before the vacation starts on friday. Schedule for the third visit includes some of the following places: (Tokyo, Sagamihara, Hiroshima, Nikkou, Mount Fuji etc.) I can't wait!
  19. DeathSpank

That reminds me that I forgot to try to use Skype to call the hotline number. Also I hope that the PC version gets announced soon. I can't wait to play Ron Gilbert's first new game in a looooooooooong time!
  20. Couriers are fucking shit

I got my new replacement hard drive from the shop. I don't know was the first one the shop sent broken already when they sent it or because the courier/post office damaged it.
  21. Futurama returns in 2008

Hehee, yeah I searched for all threads mentioning Futurama and took one of the oldest on purpose because of the title. Well, and also for an excuse to get Yufster's name to pop up somewhere in the forums...
  22. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Yeah, I will also propably try it again when the release happens. I have no use for the -50% pre order discount as I already have bought everything I want from Telltale.
  23. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Interesting, I tried to pre-order Puzzle Agent today twice. I couldn't do that because Telltale's shop crashed after I had inserted all my details? Weird?
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

We watched Serenity on saturday. I remembered it a bit differently when I saw it the first time five years ago. I remembered it before that it was just like the tv show, even though it really wasn't. Now that the tv show is in my good memory again due to recently rewatching it, the movie has a totally different vibe to it, all the colors are more lifeless in the movie and everything is really dark. Also of course maybe because it has been some years since the tv show, some characters seem weird. Simon the doc speaks differently somehow and not the same way as in the tv show. Jewel Staite as Kaylee seems very thin now? In the tv show she had some more weight as in the making of clip of the tv show she mentioned that Joss wanted her to gain weight (10kg?) for the role. Well, I will always be sad that As I recall, this movie's story was basically tightly packed storyline from the tv show's planned 2nd and 3rd seasons. All in all it is a pretty enjoyable return of the lovable characters, but it just isn't completely same as before. One thing that I will always be amazed about is the fan craze and immense help of the internet and petitions that helped to make this film a reality. Just like Joss says in the introduction, movies about failed tv shows never happen. So thank you fans especially in the US who helped to make Universal put money on the project. What were your thoughts about this ThunderPeel2001?
  25. Fable 3

Milo is Molyneux's love child so why would he be scared of it? If Microsoft would've jumped on the 3D bandwagon then they could've advertised that with Natal/Kinect Milo will jump out of the tv screen and will rob, rape and murder you while you are sleeping.
