  1. Rock Band 3

I've got the first taste of Rock Band 3, the Wii version. The Wii version is developed by other guys than the earlier RB games, all earlier were made by Pi Studios and this one by US developer Backbone Entertainment. One really cool thing that I noticed was that it remembers what songs I have downloaded from the RB song store in RB2, that was great! At least their are showing some effort when making the Wii version. I actually realized a really simple fix that Harmonix/Pi Studios/Backbone should've done with the Wii versions. As I understand, Xbox and Playstation versions of RB2 and RB3 you can get the songs from the previous games to the new version for free by some method because of the harddrive? In Wii this is not possible, but what they should've done is check if you have the save file in your Wii system for RB1/the track packs/RB2 and if you have, then it would let you access to freely download all the old games songs for free from the RB song store. Shame that was not done. The space is not an issue with modern SDHC memory cards. Also the song store has way more support than RB2 ever had at least in Europe for Wii. There's 1500 songs to dl/purchase, I guess the total amount for other consoles is 2000 already? My RB2 has since launch been showing around 200 songs only even though that was promised to quickly rise.
  2. Double Fine's next new game announced: "Stacking"

Матрёшка (matrjoška) is the Russian original word for those. I knew my Russian course would come handy someday!
  3. Life

Just got some vacation days secured for middle of December. In my line of work we never get vacation during December, which is the busiest month. So I concider this a very lucky moment as I also secured a quite nice hotel and ok priced airplane tickets on a short notice. So in December me and my wife are escaping to London for a few days of some pre-Christmas craziness. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there is no time to meet Thumbs UK representatives even though I personally would really a lot like to meet you guys in person. Sorry about that... there's just so much to see in London and my wife has never been there before so we just have to run around! One cool thing that I missed previously in UK was Stonehenge and now I will get to see it up close, it's pretty cool for me in my personal list of things I have not yet done and I get to scratch that one out soon from the list. Also as I'm a sports nut and quite big Fulham FC fan, it's also pretty huge for me that I'll get to see them play at the Craven Cottage finally for the first time.
  4. Red Dead Redemption

You can say that again angelababy, you can say that again. This one is a really persistent bot.
  5. HELPS!

The president got changed and now it's apparently back to the beginning of 2000's Lucasarts with "current market place realities and underlying economic considerations" blah blah blah.
  6. HELPS!

This is one big game that the fine people at GoG should get their hands on and make future proof with some new coding.
  7. WTF is Telltale's new game?

RPS' John Walker's take on Poker Night.
  8. Super Meat Boy! Boy is it hard!

Oh yes, pre-ordered immediately yesterday. Was planning originally to get this for Wii, but as the production of that is taking longer, I'm jumping to the Steamboat.
  9. Stacking

Yeah that is true actually, he was the producer "or just helping the developers" in that one. My bad. I tried to play and like that game a long time ago and I started it twice on different occasions from the beginning, but I lost interest in it. There's just something missing that would want me to go and finish it. Gamasutra has something on Schafer and PC ports. Also Jim Rossignol has his say about this.
  10. Stacking

I actually didn't watch the trailer until now and I have to say this looks excellent! Day one perch, when/if the PC release comes someday.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

...in jail. But I bet you meant to say Denzel Washington. Isn't he the one the new Unstoppable train wreck of a movie? Snipes is in some older movie with the same name.
  12. DeathSpank

Thongs of Virtue is coming out in Steam for PC and Mac on 30th November! 10% discount offer for pre-orders is in. Regular price $14.99 Let the celebrations begin!
  13. Stacking

Lead designer is Lee Petty, the art director of Brütal Legend. Yes, in American McGee's Scrapland the main protagonist could "go in" to other robots and take their identity and abilities. Well, I hope it does get a proper PC version at some point. I would also be happy about a PC version of Brütal Legend, but I know that will never happen.
  14. I read this interesting RPS article about this not yet released Commodore 64 adventure/RPG Newcomer from Protovision. “We work on a freely available role-playing adventure, called NEWCOMER, for 20 years by now – this project started well before our attempt to become a formal, commercial developer studio. This game was developed for the Commodore64, a cult retro computer, and is still meant to be played on real 8bit hardware, with added support for modern C64 peripherals and Hw hacks, but also has dedicated support for running under emulation like a native app.” Here's some features of this upcoming game: 180+ characters you can interact with, each with his/her own portrait graphic 10+ people who may join you, to make a team of up to 6 members ...or try it on your own, in the extra challenging Solo game mode... 50+ different areas to explore, created with 30+ different graphic sets 100+ cutscenes/situational graphics in-game, that make you feel like you are there 180,000+ words of ingame text, mostly interactive conversations No random encounters Thousands of puzzles and situations to encounter and solve Complex, non-linear gameplay with multiple levels of endings Months or weeks of immersive gaming until you "complete" the game... ...but there will still be a thousand situations, resolutions and encounters you have not seen yet, and 2 more game modes to complete! Animated intro and outro sequences Game controls changed for more comfort for emulator users on PC/Mac keyboards VICE fully supported, extensively tested, no virtual floppy disk swapping, works like a native PC / Mac / Linux game Much faster disk I/O in the 1541 version, compared to classic or Enhanced Newcomer Less floppy disk swapping needed – optimized data layout, area sorting and duplication for all multiple floppy disk versions 1541 version: 11* floppy disk sides 1581 version: 3* DD floppy disks CMD FD2000 version: 2* HD floppy disks CMD FD4000 version: a single ED floppy disk – zero disk swapping IDE64 version: 2 MB installed, "instant I/O", playing from HDD / CD / DVD / CF / remote filesystem (ethernet, USB, or User Port PCLink, via ideserv – IDE DOS v0.91 or newer required for this feature) supported, different data and save devices supported PAL and NTSC Commodore 64/64C/128/128D/128DCr systems auto-detected and supported 6581 and 8580 SID chips auto-detected and supported C128 2MHz CPU mode auto-detected and supported – much faster unpacking for all storage devices SuperCPU 20MHz mode auto-detected and supported – instant unpacking for all storage devices I'm excited, I still have a working C64 in the closet, which I have not actually used in ages, but in theory it should still work. Also emulators are up and running in my computer so...
  15. Epic Mickey

Lalalaa I'm not reading that, even though I already did... :\ Now I have to brainwash myself to not remember that and still keep hoping for the game to amaze me.
  16. WTF is Telltale's new game?

Ahh that's a shame, well Telltale's service is very good already. Steam would've been just a neat backup version basically. I don't know much of the interconnectivity of games in various net shops, seems that almost on random sometimes you can activate purchases from other shops to Steam and sometimes not, but in this case I understand that it must be because of the exclusive TF2 items that Poker Night at the Inventory brings with it.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

We have some time ago started to watch a really great show from Japan called Begin Japanology. It's made by NHK World channel and it has been on air since 2007. Very nice 30 minute weekly show where the host Peter Barakan talks about all things Japanese. Like chopsticks, Tokyo tower, bunraku, rice, sake and hundreds of other subjects. For example this week's subject will be Udon noodles. The weekly show is a bit short and could be longer, but the amount of history they tell about each subject is priceless. Anyway the show serves as kind of introduction to each subject. They try to show both old and modern culture of Japan and also show how the culture has changed in modern times and how it has stayed the same in some ways. This is a show that I'd like to own on dvd, but I kind of doubt that it is not on dvd or any other format sold anywhere. http://www.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/tv/japanology/

Hey Thompson, yeah tell us about the adventure in the land of the rising sun?
  19. Bot quotes

They seem to be taking over, quite many spam messages today.
  20. WTF is Telltale's new game?

One question, can this be done to all Telltale games or is this only for this Sean & Jake's Strip Poker Night? Sam & Max and Monkey Island in Steam? I've bought all Telltale games from their website, but it would be useful to have the games also in Steam maybe.
  21. Back to the Future

Well f... it. Lets eat the words then, just pre-ordered myself some BttF.
  22. Kinect

If you happen to get a Wii, you should get the Component cables to get the 480p resolution, with the Composite cables the picture is quite blurry.
  23. Deus Ex 3...

This could be continued here. I predict I will play Deus Ex in 2015, if I have played Deus Ex 1 & 2 before that. So far that has not happened.
  24. Portal 2

Valve announces the Valve Time. Portal is pushed two months more back. Hopefully DNF and Portal won't come at the same time, these are the two games of next year's spring that I would really like not come in the same month.
