  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

290 games on sale at GoG until beginning of January. Also they seem to be having a Christmas calendar thing going on. They just released a free game, Tyrian 2000 on 14th December.
  2. Recently completed video games

Yes, there should be a topic for that. I certainly haven't played most of my Steam games.
  3. Back to the Future

Huge shame that Tom Wilson is not voicing Tannen characters... I wonder what is the reason to that? Also the concept art looks horrible for Biff Tannen. There's just something wrong with that face. EDIT: This is funny And here are some comments from the man himself: This was written by a guy in RPS comments:
  4. Broken Sword: Director's Cut

There will be a Broken Sword 2: DC after all. And I just went today morning and bought the discounted Broken Sword 1-3 pack from GoG. Well... the regular version of the second game is propably better anyway. I actually didn't even want the awful third game, but it was cheaper to get all three than just the first DC and the original second one. I do have the first and the second as boxed versions also. My living room looks like crap like now as there are about 100 old cardboard game boxes piled up next to one of the walls.
  5. Life

Call me boring, but I named our dog Hachi.
  6. Never playing Super Meat Boy again.

My brother taught me everything about gaming when I was five, but he got some epilepsy problems like you did so he had to stop. I think he hasn't played games in the past 20 years at all... which is a huge shame as I would've really wanted to play some particular games with him ages ago already.
  7. Kinect

My wife doesn't watch or even like Oprah. I think she has heard and read too much about Kinect in commercials and also Japanese news. I blame EA Sports Active 2. If we end up getting Xbox360&Kinect, that will be the first thing she wants to buy for it.
  8. Kinect

It's funny, but ever since the Kinect came out, my wife has been telling me that we should get an Xbox360 with Kinect. Before she was telling me all the time that we don't need another console, we already got Nintendo Wii. I personally don't care about Kinect, but I would like to get quite many games from XBL marketplace. Lets see how this develops now then.

Managed to actually finish a game. Goldeneye 007 for Wii. Impressive I must say. A really nicely done FPS with slightly annoying QTE moments. I was very highly suspicious towards a remake from the great devil Bobby "Acti-vision" Kotick, but turns out they made a great game after all. Reimagining things as Daniel Craig feels awesome. He delivers his lines with passion and Judi Dench thrown into the mix doesn't certainly make things bad either. One big minus is that there is no Sean Bean as Alec "006" Trevelyan, but such is the case when everything has to be reimagined and there is nothing of the original Goldeneye maintained except for the title song and the actual plot device Goldenye. As said the movie's theme song is still there, but "reimagined" with a Pussycat Doll singing it instead of Tina Turner. Took me about 10 hours to play through the game. It is relatively short and most people propably play through it in 6-8 hours. I always take my time. There was one really annoying scene closer to the end that I propably wasted more than two hours to try to complete, it was a scene were you should propably be really stealthy and just sneak around to get some data stolen and then set off some bombs on a lower level. The levels are broken into parts so even though there is only six "main level locations", the actual amount of levels is around 15 maybe. About three per location. Have not really played the multiplayer as I'm not interested in that. I wanted to play it for the story, not for the multiplayer. Which is weird propably as most people only know Goldeneye game(s) for the multiplayer.

To close the circle we watched Ringu 0: Bâsudei during the long weekend. It closed the series nicely, even though as the name says this one was prequel telling more about the history of Sadako Yamamura. Yukie Namaka acts as young Sadako in this one and she performs quite wonderfully. No wonder they like her a lot in Japan. This was quite a different role for her as apparently she has been mostly a tv actress before. All in all, like with the previous movies, these really weren't as scary as I thought before. I almost wouldn't classify these as horror movies eithers. Well the first one was a horror movie, but these two others and that one crappy weird sequel had totally different styles. There was one really creepy scene though: One of the best scenes in the movie. We went on sunday to see Rare Exports. I absolutely loved that movie. Really funny bits all over and it made more money in Finland than Harry Potter during the opening weekend. That's always a cause for big celebrations. Also it was really nice to see my local theater fully packed with people, it's a rare sight when that happens. I feared that the movie trailers would spoil the movie for me, but I was happy to notice that the movie has quite some surprises in store. Most of the movie is in Finnish. I heard in US there is only one theater in New York currently showing this movie at the moment and that in UK it was 16th most watched movie of the weekend so I don't know was that good or bad for a movie that is not a big budget movie? I hope other people than Finnish people get the jokes that they are talking about during the movie, there were really funny lines in many scenes.
  11. Life

How is the weather in England by the way? Especially around London/Bath/Stonehenge, Wiltshire? I'm supposed to go to the majestic country on Friday and I'm hoping the weather is less winter weather than here.
  12. Post your face!

Well, today is our office's little Christmas party so it's time to wear the suit, collarshirt and tie again. My office does not have any dress codes. Everyone can be as casual as they want.
  13. Back to the Future

Now I'm happy I caved in and pre-ordered it a few weeks ago. That's one awesome trailer.
  14. Post your face!

I had to wear a tie for three days in Hamburg when I was there. I hate ties, even though those do look cool.
  15. Operation Stealth

The feeling in the game was really nice, but I got really destroyed by the Sierra style gaming that you can die at any point and many times you could not even avoid to fail and die. In a way I would still like to play it again actually, but not the original floppy version that I played back in the day. I'd like to see the Donald Sutherland CD version instead.
  16. Operation Stealth

KGB was so grindlingly difficult that I'm amazed that I managed to play through it once in the 90's. I don't want to play it again as it will propably feel like the worst game that I've ever played. At least now I can just treasure it as a game I "liked" and played a long time ago.
  17. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

That's amazing find! You can never get enough of BttF!

Watched Rasen and Ringu 2. Rasen was weird, it's like a continuation to Ringu, but the story is horrible. It's really weird and doesn't fit in to the continuity at all. The story turns into this strange scifi style instead of horror and the plot is very messed up. Ringu 2 was good, but both the sequel and the first one caught me by surprise as they are not as much horror movies as I thought. This one doesn't count in Rasen storyline at all and that is a good thing. Rasen should be totally forgotten. The story in the second part continues nicely from the first movie and it is a pretty solid storyline. Can't wait to see how the prequel Ringu 0 turns out to be. I think it will tell the origins of Sadako more closely. It was interesting to see that the Hiroyuki Sanada who was in the last season of Lost is in a pretty big role in both Ringu and Ringu 2 (and Rasen). He is a really good actor and I have to now look up what else has he acted in. Oh hell no, I just heard that Hollywood has picked up on the early success of Rare Exports and the brainiacs are planning to buy the rights of Rare Exports and make a Hollywood style remake of it "for mainstream audiences"...
  19. Eric Chahi's Project Dust

Didn't get a response through Chahi's website, it's propably been totally Out of this World since 2006. I did however find my old emails from 2006 era Thunderbird profile stuck on my harddrive and I found my registration key to Another World HD version! I played it yesterday after a few years since the last time and almost had way too much fun with it and completed maybe 50% on one run. But like Twig said earlier, it's also available at GoG and very tempting as it has all the extra features of the collector's set like the making of video, soundtrack, development diary and technical handbook. I'm propably going to get that at some point. Well, actually the Amazon.co.uk sellers are selling the boxed set for one penny, wtf! Also found the registration code to Mr Smoozles goes Nutso which is also find from the email archives. One thing I found while searching Thumbs archives was this thread: http://idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5079 What happened to the comic book, did it actually ever come out? Shame that they never legalized the GBA version as far as I know but I've played it ages ago and it worked wonderfully. What the hell is this? I've never seen that "UFO".
  20. Julian Gollop's 3DS game

Fresh three page interview with Mr. Julian Gollop: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-28-the-story-of-x-com-interview The weird thing about this interview is that it seems that it's cut short. It feels like it should be five pages long as the interview ends on Mythos being liquidated, but then there is really nothing about Laser Squad Nemesis or Rebelstar: Tactical Command or the new Ghost Recon 3DS game. Except the end part after the interview bits. Confirmed: Earlier I saw the name to be Ghost Recon: Lead the Ghosts, but I guess the production name has changed now.

We went to watch Devil yesterday at the theater. Is it just me or is M Night Shyamalan totally losing touch or more so just being a one hit wonder with The Sixth Sense? This movie did not actually direct, but he wrote the story for it. The actual director was the guy who made the American remake of Rec, the Spanish horror movie. This wasn't as total waste of time like Lady in the Water (which was a very, very bad movie in my opinion), but it still wasn't a great movie. It was ok in creating suspense as everything happens in a small elevator and the tensions between the characters are very interesting to watch throughout the movie. It's hard to make up my mind about this one actually, but it just feels to go to the department. The opening credits were quite a positive twist though.

For me Predators was the worst movie of the year. If only I could get back those wasted two hours of my life... Machete I have not yet seen as it did not come to theaters around here, but when the dvd comes around, I'll watch it. They were promoting Rare Exports at Carnaby Street in London yesterday apparently. This is a link to Finnish yellow paper website, but it has funny pics: http://www.iltalehti.fi/leffat/2010112612763719_le.shtml Seems that they are trying to make some noise outside of Finland about the movie.

I'm pretty excited about this one Finnish movie that is coming to theaters next week. Rare Exports trailer 8qdbmsL-Q28 It was originally just a short movie in 2003 that became pretty famous internationally: Ei69bYwwCvc Then they made a short movie sequel in 2005: xkyqODDF-LU They wanted to make a full movie out of it in the end so now it's ready and coming to show the true meaning of Christmas. I saw the original Ringu yesterday. I had never seen it before, but this was the movie that started the scary movie craze in Japan in the 90's as far as I know. I understand the reasons why this movie became such famous at the time, there are some scenes that are quite memorable. It wasn't that scary actually, but still a pretty solid movie and I will now continue to watch Rasen, Ringu 2 and Ringu 0 now so I will get the whole picture. I will not bother with the Hollywood versions as I've heard those are really poor and I also have no interest in Americanized versions of Japanese horror films anymore.
