  1. Life

This similar incident happens to me on average once every two months.
  2. Nintendo 3DS

The DS seems to be dying as fast as GBA died when DS was announced. Golden Sun DS didn't sell that well, Inazuma Eleven is having a really crippled release in Europe thanks to NoE and retail shops. Apparently it's only been released in France and Germany? Okamiden is coming soon and I bet that will also receive no support from NoE or retail shops.
  3. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

9PnHzD1gPak Don't know if it can be considered funny, but it's mr. movie critic taking on the Sega Activator years ago.
  4. Crysis

8-bit Killer has better graphics and better gameplay.
  5. Stacking

There was once upon a time a shop called Doublefine Shop and they had some dolls to sell. http://shop.doublefine.com/stackingnestingdolls.aspx Them crazy fans went and bought everything immediately it seems.
  6. Sony NGP (PSP 2)

Well, Android Marketplace is at the moment pretty hard to find what you want. But I've seen there are emulators for everything it seems. There seems to be millions of applications there. Google does seem to watch at least some of the content as stuff gets pulled off also. Also it seems pretty intelligent on finding out what phone do you have and does it have the horsepower to run the program. Like I can't find some apps for my ZTE Blade because it's processor is "only" 600mhz.
  7. Books, books, books...

Sorry to derail this thread from the book topic, but to continue this Alien/Whedon/Jeunet talk. I think I read once that Jeunet promised he would never again work in Hollywood after the Alien 4 fiasco. I think both Jeunet and Whedon are extremely talented guys and I've loved both of their works. I've seen all of Jeunet's movies except Micmacs and I have plans to watch that as soon as possible. The main blame on that movie goes to the direction of the producers and Fox. It could've been an awesome movie, but it wasn't in the end.
  8. Sony NGP (PSP 2)

Angry Birds has been free on Android platform all the time. Did Sony say anything about if PSP2 will be region locked? Of course it's a totally different kind of situation than 3DS as there seems to be no physical cards/discs that you can buy on various regions.

The Michael J. Fox episodes of Boston Legal are my favourites of that show, but otherwise it was quite good show. Really liked the chemistry between the actors. Also Shatner was a great choice for the role he had in that show.
  10. Private messages

Oh yes, you and your full inboxes. Yeah I vote for it to be increased to minimum of 200 also.

Hey thanks for that Rodi. I have to discuss later today with my wife if she knows this show. Sounds really interesting and I have to put in my wanted list for tv shows. I don't remember if I wrote about this here, but one awesome Japanese mini series is Baian the Assassin. Starring Ken Watanabe. Seven 1,5 hour episodes. I think you'll like it. It's pretty cheap in Amazon.
  12. The Last Express

Wahey! That's sweet. I knew it would come to GoG. Now to decide whether I should buy a second copy as digital version now to my slowly growing GoG library of games. I do have the original version, but $5.99 is. just. too. cheap. Especially for a future proof digital version of Last Express.

I forgot to write more in detail about the two said games. The biggest problem with the two games I had was the losing of freedom and not being totally immersed in to the game. The game is really clearly doing stuff for you instead of you yourself actually playing the game and having the freedom of choosing when, what and how. Even the problem is not that the game is doing it for you, but don't let the player see this so clearly. I know MoH & CoD series have always been very tight piperuns where you have to do everything exactly like the developer wants you to do it. I remember Medal of Honor Allied Assault being a very bad example on how to do a shitty level. In MoH:AA there was a situation where you are supposed to do Private Ryan stile rise on the beach from the attack boats while German machine guns are gunning you down. Unless you ran an exact pre-decided route by the developers, the machine guns would always kill you. I hate that, if you have the whole open beach there, why do you have to run it in an invisible pipe?
  14. Sony NGP (PSP 2)

I read an interview with Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida in Kotaku and he was being really vague about the price. It's like Sony is scared the price will piss all the possible customers away. In Yoshida's own words: The feeling I get from that is that it will be expensive, very expensive.I've never owned a PSP as it had no games I would be interested in (except Lumines maybe and one game doesn't sell a game machine) and I was not that interested in PSP2, but I was still interested to see what Sony has to offer and I personally have a feeling they missed the boat again. The portable is packed with all kinds of features, but as it goes, more features means higher prices. I don't believe that Sony is ready to take massive hits again on selling a new console on huge losses. So that would mean the price would be something like 400-500 dollars/euros, but nobody would buy it at that price. It's a tricky situation. The high price will turn away all young potential buyers, kids may want it, but parents won't be buying. Also there will be apparently several versions coming out. 3G version and non-3G version so price will be different for those of course. All devices will have Wi-Fi capabilities. The physical size of PSP2 is quite big, it's not exactly "pocket console", but 3DS is also not that small anymore. The one interesting idea about PSP2 that they have is the no physical media part. It will be interesting if all games are downloaded and if they manage to link up Playstation Network to PSP2 completely then it will be a selling point. They are promising that battery life target would be the same as with PSP 3000. So that's 4-6 hours? So battery life expectancy on one charge is as low as 3DS. Also, why did I reply to a message from a bot?

Had "the pleasure" of playing Medal of Honor and Call of Duty: Black Ops back to back at a friend's place in the past weeks as "co-op" playing one level and then friend playing the next level and then me again the next one etc. Holy crap both of these games were incredibly bad. The worst was the situations in Black Ops where you don't even need to press button once because the game does all the action for you. For example the first level and the glass in the mouth and punch sequence. I'm never wasting my time on MoH or CoD games again. Modern Warfare 2 was already quite horrible so I should've known, but we wanted to try this one out as "co-op" as we have done always before with CoD games. Our faces at the end of both games were first and a moment afterwards I got really badly burned by bad games inside six months time, starting with Singularity during last autumn and now with these two. At least Goldeneye is great so I haven't lost my faith in FPS games completely. Also this year Portal 2, DNF and Rage will come out and I can't remember any other worthwhile FPS games coming out this year so I hope 3/3 of those will be great games. All my other free gaming time will be given to backlog games, but of course there will always be new interesting ones, like Okamiden in a few months.

Alright, hadn't checked the background that far. I've only known that there is the old John Wayne movie, but didn't know that both are based on a book. Coen bros. made one remake before: the not-that-good-at-all Ladykillers (the original 1955 movie is awesome) so I was incorrectly assuming that they are doing one again. These brothers have been some of my favourite filmmakers since I saw The Hudsucker Proxy maybe 15 years ago. Still amazes me that I have not seen Fargo yet, even though it's one of the most famous Coen movie. Also haven't seen now the three latest movies they have made.
  18. Ghost Trick DS

I was playing this mostly this weekend and I agree completely with jennoa. Ghost Trick is one of the best games for Nintendo DS. It's from Shu Takumi, the creator of Phoenix Wright Ace Attourney (Gyakuten Saiban) game series. If you've played Phoenix Wright you kind of know what to expect for the characters. The range is really wide and all characters have a really unique persona. The gameplay is totally different from PW and it feels really fresh with the main character being dead and able to go in to objects and manipulate those. I'm still relative not that far, Chapter 3 at the moment, and at times it feels a bit too easy maybe, but there have been still some quite cool puzzles and problems here and there.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Next month Black Swan, 127 hours and True Grit should finally arrive to these shores also to the local theater. Should propably prepare for True Grit by watching True Grit the original version. I really don't care for remakes, but so many people seem to be raving about the remake that this time I will watch it. I have never seen the original. I'm really lacking in the John Wayne movie department. Haven't even seen Rio Bravo... I've been checking out The Cape, the new NBC superhero show, but it's really horrible. Even though Summer Glau is there, she alone can't save that show. Too many inconsistencies and overall stupidity.
  20. Nintendo 3DS

I think it's quite unfunny that Ubisoft is re-re-releasing Rayman 2 again. First it was N64/Dreamcast and propably other platforms game over 10 years ago. Then they made a crappy port of it for DS's original launch and now they are releasing it again for 3DS, with the 3D gimmick. I wonder will they even bother to change the control mechanics from the DS version?
  21. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

Oohh, I did once, it got okay after the horrible mechanical frog levels, but the game just totally crashed when the idiotic AI sidekicks got stuck on some wall and I couldn't load up earlier save or anything.
  22. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

I was waiting for the iconic theme to be in the trailer. The title of the Prodigy song fits the trailer, but otherwise I didn't really feel it. Can't wait to play the game though. I wonder who is doing the musics for the game, I guess Bobby Prince is out of the picture at least.
  23. Nintendo 3DS

Those are not *launch* games on day one, but those will come during spring or during summer. Reggie Fils-Aime already said something like the 3DS launch window is all the way from february/march to summer. So all games coming out that time are "launch" games to Nintendo. Even Japan doesn't get Ocarina or Paper Mario on day one.

A god damn Mercedez-Benz driver smashed my car during lunch break. And because of technicality issues I am the faulty party because I exited a tightly crammed parking lot although he was driving over the speed limit in a tight alley. All my co-workers sitting in my car when this happen said the guy was driving way too fast on that tight space, but police said it is my fault and in a way I acknowledge that. The thing is I was not supposed to use that exit, but another car was blocking the way so I couldn't use the bigger exit out of the parking lot. It's all about chances and fucking shitty bad luck. My car is now smashed, the insurance will cover the other guy's car, but not mine. I'm feeling really fucking pissed right now. My dad had just mentioned to me a few days ago if I would change the old car to a new one and get good discount when giving the old car in exchange. Well, good luck with that now.
  25. Nintendo 3DS

Hahah, that's nice, thehut is offering 217,93 pounds, that is propably the cheapest price for UK. Play.com is offering with their weird euro prices 307,99 euros as the price for pre-order of a 3DS console, even though the pound price is the 219,99 price. There they go again with the incredible fixed euro currency exchange rates again.
