  1. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/15/its-dreamy-weather-new-alice-teaser/ I'm getting bad vibes about Alice 2, mainly because American McGee is full of shit and his cheap labour companies have only done really bad or mediocre games, but I'm leaving the bar low so they can have an easy attempt at amazing me.
  2. Open Outcast

That video looks amazing! This is one high quality fan sequel. Are they doing this just for free or is there some budget behind this. I would pay for that, how come even the voice acting sounds pretty good quality?
  3. Buying a New PC

I've got Win7 running on 64-bit and it's working really smoothly.

  5. Android Games

Hmm yeah, the permissions are pretty freaky, I've seen quite many applications with questionable permission requests. It's interesting that there are basically from now on only three choices Android, iOS and Windows Phone. All are pretty heavy on the "I'm watching you" front. I found Giantbomb's application from the Android Market. This one is pretty awesome, I can see all bombcasts, videos and reviews with this app and it's quite fast also. Camel Games have some pretty cool small physics based games, like Blow Up, Super Tumble and Space Physics.

Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind Now I get why one of my friends totally loves Charlie Kaufman scripts. From him I've only seen Being John Malkovich multiple times and now this and I can just say: "wow". If Adaptation can keep up this level of high quality then I'm happy, I've had that movie on dvd for years and I've not yet watched it. I've tried like three times, but it just needs your mind to be in a certain mode to be ready.
  7. Spawn of Thumb!

I watched today my brother's 8 years old son play Super Mario 3 and Cave Story for the first time in his life. It was quite amazing to see him learn tricks by himself so fast. That was pretty proud uncle moment for me. I taught him just some little stuff and he himself took the lead.

But basically this Abbott guy gets away with it right? http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/capital-circle/tony-abbott-and-sevens-mark-riley-make-their-peace-over-a-controversial-interview/story-fn59nqgy-1226004528524
  9. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday eleK_triK, who is apparently Kingz' ex-roommate who hasn't visited this site 3,5 years!
  10. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

Can this be pre-ordered yet on Steam? I couldn't find it from there when I was searching for it two days ago. I seriously hope Bulletstorm doesn't steal potential customers away from Duke as the release period is in the same area. Bulletstorm is kind of trying to be like Duke, but it's nowhere near the importance of Duke.
  11. Mass Effect 3

That is some sweet music alright, I didn't know he has made all those memorable soundtracks for those movies. Too bad I don't care about Mass Effect at all... EDIT: Wow, he also scored The Wrestler? And Doom the movie hahhah well that wasn't that good, but in The Wrestler the soundtrack fit the movie perfectly.

Why you posted a horrible blast from past of Finland, damn you Rodi, damn you. Danny aka Ilkka Lipsanen is the most horrific artist this country has ever produced.
  13. Internet Comics

That is the best looking comic I've ever seen in the net and I'm not kidding here. Holy shit that scrolling design looks awesome.
  14. New people: Read this, say hi.

    Welcome to Idle Thumbs!
  15. Recently completed video games

I finally completed a Telltale game, well it's just episode 1 of a five part game, but still... Actual text is in the BttF thread. http://idlethumbs.net/forums/showpost.php?p=163984&postcount=166
  16. Back to the Future

So I finally got up and played through a Telltale game (last time was Sam&Max 1x03 maybe two years ago). I finished Bttf episode 1 and I got quite a lot to say about it. AJ LoCascio is great and sounds perfect from Marty's voice, almost exactly like MJ Fox himself. Christopher Lloyd is himself and truly is Doc Brown like always. Also Michael X Sommers is really nice find to voice George/Arthur McFly! The voice suits that role surprisingly well. Dialogue in the game is great in exception to Kid Beyond/Andrew Chaikin who just doesn't sound like the movie Biff Tannen that much and Kid is apparently voiced by a different actor Owen Thomas. I can't hear no Tom Wilson impression there at all and that makes me a bit sad. Makes me wish Tom Wilson was there after all, but such is life and you can't always get what you want... Also I didn't catch who is the voice actress of old Edna, but it sounds a lot like some young woman trying to act as an older person? That should've been done with some actual older voice actor instead of this way. Is the same actress Rebecca Schweitzer as both young and old Edna? So that leads me to my question: what's up with the very poorly done dialogue texts in game that relies on a lot of dialogue? Did anyone even proofread the texts? There were several occasions where there were typos. The worst was in the end with the text about next episode promising it to arrive in February 2010, I know this is a time travel game, but I'm pretty sure "Get Tannen!" did not appear one year ago. The other examples are Edna and Doc in the past. soicalized = socialized (Edna's line when talking with her in the park) paritcles = particles (young Doc in his lab talking to Marty) EMMET! = EMMETT! (judge Brown shouting to young Doc) anscestors = ancestors There are propably even more, but I would have to play through it again to have a closer look. It's been two months since the release of Ep1 and I don't think these have been fixed since I just recently installed the game after downloading it from Telltale store. There were some sound issues that are propably part of the voice compression sadness. The main menu interface is really nice and easy to maneuver, but I got lots of issues with the actual game interface, too many big buttons that are visible all the time, a quite clunky inventory that isn't the easiest to use and what's up with the information popping up even though all pop ups and hints I disabled right away in the menu settings? It's also kind of worrying that it's easier to control Marty with keyboard WASD or arrows rather than just using mouse. There should be an option to leave out the PSN/Xbox direct controls and just use mouse on PC if the user wants to do so, after all the mouse cursor is there. All in all a really surprisingly short episode with quick and easy puzzles, but it's still nice to be back in "the world of Back to the Future" and overall experience was positive even though I'm picking up all the negatives more in this post. Did Jake and Famous have much to do with the game, the credits went by so fast that it was not easy to see who did what? Did I understand correctly that you guys are not that much connected to the movie projects BttF and Jurassic Park?
  17. Android Games

So I've handled my Android 2.1 phone ZTE Blade soon for a month. So far the only application I bought was Game Dev Story for about 1,99€ when there was a sale in January and I love that game. It's almost too simple when you know all the game mechanics and now I'm in year 13 and I'm raking in too much cash already and all my games are selling +5 million. I hope you could buy the reviews like in real life and have more influence in things, but this game is still pretty sweet for a mobile phone game. I have of course tried out several other games like Angry Birds and the AB Seasons which just actually yesterday received the Valentine's day update. The original AB stopped working during the weekend because I uninstalled 1.5 version and tried to get the new 1.5.1 version just to realize that it is "not available" for my phone in the market. Really weird especially considering this was supposed to be enhanced for lower processor phones with some graphics slider. Two pretty nice games out there are EVAC and Radiant, both from the same company Hexage ltd. Graphics are really nicely done in a retro style but with modern effects. Radiant is a kind of homage to Space Invaders and EVAC is homage to Pacman. I have also tested a little bit Spaghetti Marshmallows and Tank Hero, but more on those later. I got to say that I'm loving the non-gaming apps, it's like a brave new world for me to have stuff like Team Coco, newsfeed like Ampparit for Finnish users, NHL Gamecenter, XE Currency, aText-TV, Enidroid (for seeing unknown caller details immediately) and Parcels (for incoming post package following). It would really blow my mind if Daily Show and Colbert Report would make similar applications to how Team Coco works.
  18. Sometimes I feel like I live in bubble because I have no idea what this thread is about.
  19. Achievements/Trophys

I've never been a fan of trophies or achievements in games. I've always thought those are pointless as I'm there to play the game and not score some extra "credit". I don't care if I get achievements or not. Granted if there are some tongue in cheek stuff like JonCole wrote about the crossbow and gravity gun in HL2, then that's fun. I get why some people like that. That's one thing that I still admire Nintendo about, they openly don't give a shit about Steam/Xbox/PSN style achievements and do not plan to put such in 3DS or Wii. The only forum where I've seen achievements being in use is Irrational's forum.
  20. anime

I'm still in process of watching everything master Satoshi Kon made in his short life. It's so damn wrong that he passed away. I remember watching Haibane Renmei back maybe 5-6 years ago. I don't think I watched the whole series, but I can't be sure at this point.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

Watched Unbreakable during the weekend for the first time, somehow I never got to watch it before and I was surprised to remember that this movie is already 11 years old. It was pretty good, there were the hints for the big twist laid out well before the end, but I still somehow managed to be surprised at the end. This was back when M Night was still new and fresh with bright ideas. Really solid acting from both Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson.
  22. Well, propably my internet connection wanted during the weekend to take a share of tanukitsune's problems and suddenly instead of 10/2 I'm getting 0,5/2 all the time, what the hell?
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

They were clearly building it with I thought it was a kind of nice touch to the first movie, but when I heard rumours about the sequel, then I started thinking that it was all calculative and done on purpose for the future. Michael Sheen was amazing, that I agree on, I would've liked him to have a bigger role in the movie. Also interesting sidenote is that just a day or two before we saw Tron: Legacy, we happened to catch part of the Queen movie showing on tv where Michael Sheen is Tony Blair. So different roles.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

You had no problems watching the quite awful cgi Jeff Bridges? The real Jeff Bridges as whitegown Jesus figure was ok. I had the pleasure of watching Starman a few days ago from the tv. Now that was a nice movie! Why the hell I've never really noted how awesome actor Jeff Bridges really is? I need to dig in and check all the stuff John Carpenter has made in the 80's, there seems to be all the time all kinds of gems there that I had never even heard about before, like They Live an Starman. Apparently they are already making Tron 3. I have feeling that it's not going to end well. Suddenly really milking the old property, but I guess I'll go see it anyway, the visual were really nice other than cgi Jeff B.
  25. I've had 10mb/s for a few years and it's more than enough for all purposes. My parents-in-laws have 100mb/s in Japan and I see no difference in regular usage. Isn't bigger bandwidths usually only used for stuff like server running etc? With my current contract I could get 100mb/s for the same price, if my old apartment building would have modern cables running in the house and all the plugs from this age and not the 50's.
