Oh hell... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/8375373/Japan-earthquake-and-tsunami-live.html Japan and the area of Sendai was hit with 8,9 Richter earthquake and 10m tsunami just a moment ago. My friend was in Sendai not long ago and it looks like this did a lot of damage. I hope not many lives were lost. Japan usually has pretty good measures at alarming people about earthquakes etc. They say it's the biggest earthquake ever to hit Japan. Mobile networks are down, trains have stopped in many parts of the country and nuclear plants have been shutdown to avoid any leaks. I just hope my wife's family is alright, they are not exactly even close to the epicenter of this quake, but the shocks reached Tokyo also.

GDC 2011: The Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade: Hold On To Your B.U.T.T.O.N.

Oh I know that drug. It's Famous. -
I'm kind of tempted to resurrect an old thread from 2006 concerning Another World, but lets just go with this thread even though less people might read it (or more?) http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33356/GDC_2011_Eric_Chahi_Retro_Postmortem_Another_World.php This was one of the best bits of GDC and makes me wish I was a games developer and could attend GDC. I even think Thumbs crew got to hang out with Mr. Chahi himself later in the evening during GDC. Awesome guy.

So now also the UK release has been cancelled of this marvellous game. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33437/Ubisoft_Wont_Release_We_Dare_In_UK.php

I forgot to say that I also saw The Tourist during the weekend. What a waste of time, absolutely a bad, bad movie. I was surprised to see Johnny Depp in such a movie because usually he keeps his level and lifts even bad movies to ok level.

Hollywood I was really hoping to see that movie. Del Toro had been dreaming of it for years and years.

They are keeping up with the quality voice acting, the guy mostly heard as a voice actor there was at least in Grim Fandango and propably bunch of other LucasArts games, at least I remember hearing his voice in many old LA games.

It must be an evil twin!

Also: I didn't know Spaff is actually a Japanese Bvlgari wallet salesman. http://www.roflopolis.com/ I haven't visited his blog in ages, but times sure have changed.
-
I've never met Spaff in person, but it sure looks like him in that video. The dude even has the piercing over the left eyebrow like Spaff does if I remember correctly. What the hell is this? http://www.sackcast.com/?tag=spaff

Well, it's good that they are fighting the piracy, but this bit in the news is one reason why I'm scared of big hardware companies like Nintendo, Sony, Google, Apple etc. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-07-nintendo-3ds-logs-flash-cart-use Remote bricking is pretty scary thought, like Google showed that they have the possibility to remove anything from your phone remotely.

I saw Black Swan on saturday. Liked the movie a lot and I know now why Natalie Portman got so many awards for the role. She was perfect. One thing that makes me wonder about Darren Aronofsky, he has always been a different kind of director who makes movies that really make you think. Why is it then that he wants to direct a REMAKE of Robocop and his next movie is a comic book hero movie about Wolverine? I don't get it.

This is too funny. A bot posting in thread about bots and does it four times in a row.

I wish easter week would come already. I've got almost the whole week vacation then and a lot of games to go through.

I remember one weird technical bit about the demo. I set up the settings in the first game menu to 1680x1050 at first and the native resolution of my monitor is 1920x1200. The game started for some reason in 1920x1200 and there wer black bars around the screen and the game area then with 1680x1050. It was also really sluggish frames per second. Then I changed to 1920x1200 and it took it to the whole screen and everything looked great, the fps went up and everything was really smooth.

And even that one they weren't going to make to PC at all first, but after some teeth-grinding and tough turns Psychonauts did end up also on PC which was a big surprise. It might because Microsoft changed to Majesco/THQ on the publishing department, but still... The first few years of Psychonauts development I didn't care at all as it was just a project for Xbox. I did mourn the loss of a great PC game developer (Tim Schafer), but then I was eating only happy pills when they announced that it will come to PC as well. I'm also extremely happy that I got many friends introduced to that magnificient game because of it being on PC so they bought it also. One friend who never buys any video games because he has given up on gaming almost completely, I even got to him to buy it straight from Tim's website shop because he loved Monkey Islands and Day of the Tentacle so much. I know some games are only meant to appear on certain platforms as those are in-house projects like all Miyamoto's projects for Nintendo, but Double Fine isn't an in-house first party developer, I would be really happy if they could release all their games on all the main platforms to reach the maximum audience.

I'm not angry at all. Just largely disappointed on the direction Double Fine is heading to.

Giant Bomb Live! — Idle Thumbs Reunion!
Kolzig replied to mikemariano's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That was quite a messy podcast in many ways. Would've wanted to have Jake and Vanaman plus Chris there for a longer time. Space Asshole was nice! The chairs looked really uncomfortable, no wonder Chris changed his for the second part. So any of the thumbs guys returning for the second podcast they mentioned at the end of part 2? -
I have no faith in Hollywood to make a decent prequel/sequel to Blade Runner. That movie should forever be sequel free, no matter if there were K.W. Jeter sequel books to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" existing or not.
-
I just read yesterday on hmm maybe it was io9 that Blade Runner will get a sequel or a prequel. Wtf.

The big issue is that many companies tend to use older versions of IE and the migration is slow as hell. For example my workplace uses still IE7 and it was only like a year or so ago that they migrated from IE6. Talks are that in a year we might even get IE8. Woot for the fast technological leaps. Thankfully I can at least install Firefox and not use IE at work.

Only for XBLA. But it doesn't matter that much in this case as this is the least interesting of the four Double Fine projects they are working on. I really hope "the fifth" DF game, Ron's game comes to Steam/PC in general. They can't put everything just to the consoles, I refuse to believe that. N2AK-e2jdkM
